    What I didn't see discussed is how having an ebike allows smaller riders to keep up with bigger riders. For me, having the youngest get an ebike allows them to keep up with dad and the older siblings. That allows us all to ride further, faster and longer. I will be sure looking to get ebikes for all my kids for the same reason I will only buy ebikes going forward, its more of what you love about bikes!!

      *BINGO!* no more 9mph limits because the little tyke is yelling "slow down!" The top speed on the Torpedo is 17mph but set to medium assist is seems to be about 12mph which is perfect for me to have an enjoyable ride. 🙂

    Thank you for the excellent review. My son is 11. I was skeptical it would be big enough for him. Your in-depth explanation on sizing comparative to your height made me feel confident to go ahead and purchase. Thank you so much.

    Thanks for the review! I haven't ridden a bike in years...ok, decades and needed to find something to keep up with the kids. Going to try this one. Appreciate your detailed review of this ebike.

    Seems to me that it could work quite well for smaller adults too.

    We just picked one up at Walmart for $250 and got it in one day. Having an issue right now with the range. We only get about 6 miles, and thats on PAS 3. Mostly flat ground and my 9 year old at 64 pounds.
    He loves riding this bike, we have 3 other E-bikes and live a mile from the beach. So family bike rides take a whole new spin now that he can go about 16 MPH. Helps with some of the hills, and just wants to hop on and ride around the Hood all the time now.
    I contacted Kent support, and showed them the production of the bike was Oct-2020. So maybe they will send a new Battery. As if we can get 15 Miles, that will be great for our Yosemite trip and bringing the bikes to explore!
    This is a Game Changer, and without having a throttle, and just PAS 1-2-3 or off, makes it easy for the kids to acclimate. Also if you think about it, going down a hill or peddling as fast as they can. You can get up to 12-15-20 MPH real fast!!
    Now as a family we cruise about 15 Mph (Us Boys like to go Fast / MAX! My wife likes to Cruise at 12 or so.. So we meet in the middle!!)
    They Hype of E-Bikes, and keeping up with the rest of the family, having the little boost for getting up hills is a Game Changer and he has ridden this bike more in the past week then his other bike in the past year. So for us it encourages exercise and getting out and having fun.
    Hopefully KENT can fix our Range / Battery issue. on our Torpedo I am also wondering if i could connect a different battery system and Super Charge it! Well at least give it a LONG RANGE!! not sure!

      We are only getting 5 or 6 miles per charge. Just bought it last week. The production date was Oct/2020. So maybe bad battery. Boys usually all ride on Mode 3. Is your 6 year old using Max boost? or just 1 or 2? I have a case open with Kent to see if its the battery.

    Would just prefer to get a Lectric XP for a few hundred more and allow him to grow into it... doesn't work for younger kids but at 8+ it seems like a much better way to spend the money.

    • @noisycarlos
      @noisycarlos 3 года назад +2

      That's true. But consider that a few hundred dollars more in this case means almost double the price ($500 vs $900), which can add up for people with more than one child. Also, I like my Lectric, but it's big and heavy, so depending on the kid's age it might not work (my mom was intimidated and didn't want to ride it, even though she would fit)

    Too expensive for the electric system provided. The bike is probably $98 without the motor and battery. The JupiterBike Discovery fits kids perfectly and has double the power and battery, frame suspension, throttle and disk brakes. I love the idea but Kent is ripping off parents here.
    EDIT: the price is now $298 @ walmart. that's a much better deal!

    I note that there are a number of taller adults that do not appear to be "responsible enough" for an ebike.

  • @BN99239
    @BN99239 3 года назад +2

    For $500, this seems pretty expensive. You can get a 500W hub motor ebike on Amazon or spend a bit more and get a Lectric or something. Kids can still ride the Lectric pretty comfortably and sure it can go a little faster but it's good for kids to learn how to control things and not go past their comfort zone. Kids will eventually become adults, just let them learn.

    Why not use a more stylish e-bike body frame?..... instead of using that outdated dull design. It looks like a bmx bike. They could have done a much better job with this....smh🙁

    • @simonm1447
      @simonm1447 3 года назад

      I also think it looks like a BMX, however it has a weight limit and with a adult it's far exceeded, so it may break apart if you do tricks on a skateboard half pipe ;) -

    My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.

    I didn't really get it, until you pointed out if a kid wants an EV this is probably better for them than anything else. In general, more people on bikes is better, who knew middle-shoolers wanted ebikes??

    Ethical dilemma is the potential of e-waste for a bike that will be outgrown! I would be onboard completely if kent offered a battery buyback recycling program after the bike has reached end of life. Unfortunately the best way to get average consumers to recycle e-waste is to pay them for it lol.

    They’re junk. I have one battery and firms went out within two months. Had to replace chain and get tune up on it because derailleur came in damaged. On top of it their customer service is horrible. Never get back to you and months go by with nothing done. STAY AWAY from KENT. Cheap Walmart brand

    • @Electrek
      @Electrek  3 года назад +9

      That's odd, because the bike has only been available for a couple of weeks. Not sure how your battery lasted two months...

      @@Electrek @michelle Evans... My Production date was Oct/2020. So 18 months-ish... The range on my sons bike is only about 6 miles on PAS 3 (max) so only about 20 min. I contacted Kent and they have responded right away. We just bought this from Walmart 5 days ago. My 9 year old is so stoked on it. We live a mile from the beach and all have E-bikes, he was able to keep up at 16 MPH to get ice cream the other day on a 5 mile round trip ride. Makes it so fun to get out with the Family. Hopefully we can get a new battery or something to fix this Range issue.

    😂 I didn't think they would already be closing out these bikes. I just got the last one I my local store for $109. But it didn't have the battery. It's perfect for my gfs mini bicycle club. Custom bikes 20" wheels or less. The 25" tall apes and banana seat are on the way. I'm going to power it with harbor freight drill batteries
