Zay PlayZ I’ve learned a little more in the year since I posted that, what I was told is it doesn’t really matter after you get the head set on the drum, especially with hardy drums designed for high tension
Their basses sound so good this year. I've listened to multiple recordings and the basses all stand out. Something you usually don't get good definition with on a recording. You can actually hear the tone instead of just a "thump" sound.
hey awesome footage Damien! If i may input something, I think the footage would be more dynamic if you get more of the line than just zooming in on the snares, ie getting at least 3 snares in a shot/moving out away so you can get more members in the shot. I'm really digging that second camera for the quads though, really cool perspective. Please keep up the awesome videos!
Got dam it!!! I missed RCC. And it's right in my back yard. All i can do is watch you guys in HD on my 60' Flat sceen... Thoes carbon fiber drums look dope!!!!!!
+Nick Dobbins i see how some could think that but i see it as innovation. instead of practicing to not hit rims and hitting rims all the time...just remove the rims. it's genius i bet the lack of rims allows these guys to play things not possible on other drums. let's see how long it takes the rest of DCI to "copy" aka just do something that really makes sense
If you ask me, it comes off as a complete cop out. Groups are playing beats that can give other top groups a run for their money, with traditionally designed drums of course. One would even argue that it changes the stature of what quad drumming has always been Writing and executing the repertoire in this instruments' own respect is an art form of its own. The instrument in it's own right, is so prestigious as it is and altering them to hit less rims with this design definitely takes away from the prestige. It would be as if you started marching two bass drums, stacked on one another, per bass drummer, just to get splitting 5lets to sound smoother. It definitely changes the game, but isn't a game-changer by any means.
+john deer the almighty quad drum, how dare they. I assume you were also against DCI allowing Bb trumpets, or against cars replacing the horse-pulled buggy;)
+Brandon Cooper I'm not a brass player, so I have little to no idea what you're referring to. But you just listed a whole bunch of additions/replacements to certain subjects. These rims subtract a small yet large part of what quad drumming is to drummers- whether that be a negative part or a positive part. I'm not a quad drummer, but I've been around enough quad drummers to know that this is definitely perceived as the "easy way out". In a way they can easily shoot themselves in the foot with this new thing. It doesn't seem to be helping the rim paradigm at all; I mean they're still hitting them like crazy in this video for sure. And while people will come with "their still hitting rims because that's how hard their content is", you can't overlook that these rims are suppose to eliminate that issue. That doesn't go well for their image seeing as how the crank their quads higher that anyone else in DCI, making their rims significantly lower to begin with. *wink face*
Anyone know what harnesses they're using????? Those don't look like normal Pearl Airframes. And I thought the new system blue drums only worked with Randall May hardware?
Well, Mike needs to get closes to the quads next time. They are playing the only cool stuff in this book. Video wise these videos are outstanding. They look so damn good when played on my TV.
My high school drum line sounds so bad because of one girl that does not practice or anything, and she thinks she’s the best when she can’t even play on the upbeat 😐I know this because she went to the bathroom to do god knows what for like 20 minutes and during that time we sounded so fucking clean I felt so good and we all knew why
I think it's a little cheap for them to take part of the rims out on the quads. I feel like (and I don't know this) it's a cop-out, however, if dci specifically stated you could do this to all the corps, then I have no problem. I just want a level playing field.
Ahh, yes... The wild west of using knockoff Pearl AirFrame carriers and Dynasty bass & tenor stands, and calling it "System Blue". Before they got hit with all of the trademarks, copyrights, and potential threats of lawsuits...
This is one of the best drumline videos I have ever seen. The sound quality is amazing, as well as the video quality.
Yes. Love it! You are the man Damien. Please keep them coming.
That guy tapping off looks like a nice and funny guy
What is the origin of this lol?
Man this is a really great vid. Keep em coming Damien cas this vid is great! Also that quad split in the beginning is amazing
amanda Martinez and Brandon olander gave me their sticks.💙💙💙
lucky SOB
Amanda Martinez is cute.
Mando what sticks were they?
They look to thin to be Scott Johnson’s or DC50.
@@mr51mp35 probably dc17s
Something more common I've found that feels similar is vice firth roger carters
19:35 Foreshadowing.
Didnt think about that😂
DAMN that was a (Not so good) year
THank you for capturing such great footage! Reminds me of how my highschool line warmed up, not even close to this line haha.
Jika pot e hhuuuuuu no p
He was tuning that drum in a circle!! What the heck!!
Wagner Bros. I also caught that, that's not the way I've been taught
its not a big deal when you dont have tension rods to warp
Really late lol. But you tune Kevlar heads in a circle. You prob know this already
@@CBW_MT The rods exsist They are just in the shell soo it probably can warp Lol
Zay PlayZ I’ve learned a little more in the year since I posted that, what I was told is it doesn’t really matter after you get the head set on the drum, especially with hardy drums designed for high tension
the video and audio quality are amazing especially video i love how you have footage of all three sections instead of just snares or just tenors.
great footage
I love the quality of this recording!
Damn those bass unisons... awesome tuning and playing
god damn it I knew they'd change the closer quad break that I already transcribed
this is old, they still have the white bass heads on... you've might've transcribed the current one
That warm up at the 15 minute mark with the dynamic changes is bad ass.
Dudes been marching BD since he was 16 to his age out, he’s crazy
Awesome video!!!!! Keep them coming!!!!
Bass 1 is bae

21:58 that lick with the two shots and the accented rolls is from Felliniesque right before the jazz run section.
Full Show starts at 17:07
Quality lit as always
Fantastic quality I subbed keep it up
Our drumline is getting these drums and I am super excited to play on them. They look and sound so good!
The Social Experiment geez my school just uses yamaha mc drums. would love to play on sb equipment. how is it
Thats the cleanest bass line I've ever heard
Dominick Guerra I will give them those splits between 3 and 4 🤙🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Dominick Guerra how do u listen to that crap?! All I hear is snares
ThunderAnt put some ear buds;)
you're awesome damien
Its good to see everybody get along.

thanks for your feedback.
Yea I like to watch there hands and to see what technique they use
Got dam it!!! I missed RCC. And it's right in my back yard. All i can do is watch you guys in HD on my 60' Flat sceen... Thoes carbon fiber drums look dope!!!!!!
My first time seeing those quads up close.
Thats sick they took that part of the rims out. Brilliant design.
+Nick Dobbins i see how some could think that but i see it as innovation. instead of practicing to not hit rims and hitting rims all the time...just remove the rims.

I miss DCI Sacramento Freelancers, Guardian Knights and I tried out for the Santa Clara Vanguard. Way too much fun!!!
Hey Damien, what kind of camera are you using? cheers from PA!
DAT COFFEE!
And Amanda looks beautiful as always! !!!
Wow they changed their drum break a lot this season
and that is their warming up :)
U da man Damien
Great footage, but the first bass girl 😍 not going to lie.
Kyle Matthews truuuuu
Kyle Matthews would smash👌🏻
Kyle Matthews fuck
it'd be funny as hell if you are her bf and just found these comments xD
kris garcia lol
I love watching all them but the smaller kid on snare is he the one in 2012 that was playing with them one day?
when I marched back in the 70's the Bass drummers had to carry their bass drums while at practice.
Is it like the newest guy gets in charge of tuning drum? Or the section leader?
I wish they still had the three stick holder instead of the two
Swear I heard the closer from 2014 in the beginning
look the orange hair Brandon is there he worked so hard to become one of the blue devils
is it just me or does this snare break sound like the 2007 drum break too
What kind of camera are you using?
21:50 the dab
What audio recorder are you using?
I was behind your gopro :D
Obama holy shit Obama goes to blue devil lots? 😂
Gafilta Turtle :) love me some BD
The camera seems to LOVE Amanda, lol.
What exercise is this?
VK used to have camps at Rio Mesa, my HS. What HS is this? Looks like Oxnard HS...
Can someone explain what the tag on the end of accent tap is? I've been trying for weeks to figure it out and it's killing me slowly.
I'm a random wind storm. Shaky Shaky. It's just 16th notes RlrL LRRl rLLRRl RlrL LRRl rLLL(R) with a shot on the last right. 7/8 time signature
They really do be smacking that system blue logo on everything huh
Is it in here California
is bass 1 an 18"?
Very nice.
Anyone know what harnesses they're using????? Those don't look like normal Pearl Airframes. And I thought the new system blue drums only worked with Randall May hardware?
Dylan Catlin
So is that why they went from the Pearl looking harnesses to Randall May harnesses? I always wondered that tbh 😅
I find it amazing how in some of the warmup shots I can not hear the tenors. I see them playing but do not hear them.
Well, Mike needs to get closes to the quads next time. They are playing the only cool stuff in this book.
Video wise these videos are outstanding. They look so damn good when played on my TV.
What camera did you use to film this? Looks great!
I used a Canon 7D for the BD vids. And thanks!
Damien Masterson from RUclips What to record the sound? External mic to the camera?
Snare feature at 19:07 is so sick
love the frame rate haha
Whats up with the tenors standing wide and closed ?
Holy fuck. The fucking metal capability .
17:30 FUQ WAS THAT NOISE??? 😂😂😂
1:10
Why is he tuning the tension rods in order?! Needs more star pattern
Intro song???
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Is there any sheet music @ 8.00?
I don't get it
17:12
You're welcome
Bass 3 tuning pops
How long has she been bass 1?
since 2013
John Adams
Dude, you are somewhere in every lot video comments section
errrr thang
Why did they switch to Randall May carriers during this year?
Noah Zissman they got into a lawsuit with pearl because they totally ripped the design straight from pearl
I spy bass music ahh!!!
I really love System Blue snares...
what kind of drums are these? No more Pearl?
nope. these are the new system blue natal series carbon fiber drums
Must have sold out
If you tune all day then why do you tune in a circle?!!!!
940 bandoooooooooa "oh" ramble
backS
How tall is bass 5?
more than a few
+Pierce Rose ??
about 5
I was wondering, are the members of DCI allowed to make boyfriends/girlfriends during the season??
these are adults. you do what you want, just keep in mind you're expected to keep it professional
Gryd I see, thanks!
Why isn't Arjun playing in the middle of the head?
It's the angle
18:26 are those book reports?
no
17:25
Im dead
19:36 foreshadowing
what is the exercise at 8:21
AS_Dwumz chill the fuck out
I always feel sorry for those bass drum players
Why did you
Why do they wear wristbands?
so their sticks don't get caught in their sleeves in full uniform.
Also helps with sweat dripping down your arms.
also because system blue is the company that makes their drums and that's the logo
+DamienMasterson bingo
1733 well well well
Your not suppose to tune the heads in a cicrlce
@21:50 "Dabbin"
No I don't
Sounds amazing! Great players, but all of the giggling around from tapping the foot makes it look sloppy. Can't tell by the sound though!
Part of why they’re so tight, pulsing with their legs. Looking forward to the video showing us how much better your form & sound are 😉
I think it's a little cheap for them to take part of the rims out on the quads. I feel like (and I don't know this) it's a cop-out, however, if dci specifically stated you could do this to all the corps, then I have no problem. I just want a level playing field.
agree with you completely
Shane Roderick do you know if this is a new thing, and if is, do you know if dci announced it?
***** alright, I guess it's fine then
if you listen to bd quad line videos like this one, you'll still notice them making some ticks when sweeping so I guess it isn't much difference
I mean... The entire bluecoats front ensemble has in ear headphones that run to the same metronome track. So if anything, that should be unfair
Ahh, yes... The wild west of using knockoff Pearl AirFrame carriers and Dynasty bass & tenor stands, and calling it "System Blue". Before they got hit with all of the trademarks, copyrights, and potential threats of lawsuits...
Mane shit!
Was that the god Brandon More in 3:14
Brandon Olander? Yes, sure is. He aged out in 2019.
