I have made a mistake reading these comments. BD always has great lines and hard, entertaining, impressive music. It is a shame that everyone feels the need to call out "omg BD plays quarter notes and the same licks omg" So frustrating. Sometimes 4 quarters notes in a row is what fits the music...and also, they play extremely difficult passages. If BD played easy things, then more people would audition and make it than come out and comment on their videos.
Kinda funny that half of these guys were with the Bluecoats last year and thought "I wanna be in a a corps that'll win next year" they go to BD and bluecoats win
urmom5675 nah, you're right, he was 15 in coats and is a year younger than Brandon. He ages out in 2020. And is going to be 18 this upcoming season in 2017
Caryn Denter It causes bad posture. Granted those carries force your back to straighten out so more than likley hes just short. I would guess he's around 5'4"-5'6"
I was about to say just genetics, but he also was prevented from marching with BD until he was 16 due to Scoliosis. Scott Johnson did an interview where he said he wanted to take Brandon just for his hands at age 14 and 15, but he had him wait one more year just due to the modern physicality of the activity. I think it’s great that drum corps is now an athletic activity, but it requires a lot more work because of that.
I feel like the BD book nowadays is written like something that would be used in a drumline battle. They're clean and all, but it looks like all they do is show off with stick tricks and visuals and splits. I mean no disrespect to BD, I'm just giving my honest opinion. I found them much more enjoyable in the past.
I feel like their bass line has improved, but now their snare line is lacking a bit compared to this. kinda sucks (edit) but hopefully now that they’re getting rid of the paint bucket drums they’ll sound better lol.
B Gzz i dont wanna say i agree because no disrespect to the blue devils they rock and theyre beasts at what they do and i love them but on the low i don’t disagree if you know what i mean
Can somebody please tell me their approach to fast or intense rolls like in 2:26? My rolls always seems like I'm using too big of muscle groups while playing, and would love to know what their technique is for doing so
Listen at 2:30...the tenors are mirroring the same extended roll phrase!! And cleaner than the snares!!! It's way more difficult to do , when moving from drum to drum...! Clean that scazz up snares, quit showing off visually and play clean..
First of all, it's not way cleaner than the snares, second, there are 9 snares and 4 quads so they have different responsibilities and one isn't harder than the other, although quads is harder to play, it's much easier to play clean with 3 others than with 8 others, also, this is the cleanest we've ever heard BD this early season, and this snareline is the most stacked snareline anyone will have in a very long time.
agreed..I am a old school tenor drummer I have listened to this line and this is the most entertaining line this year in my opinion. By finals night these guys are gonna be so clean you could bottle them up and sell them in the store....
You do realize the season just started, right? They're playing incredibly well for it to be this early in the season. This stuff is not easy. I would think you'd know this, but I guess not.
BS, Madison, Cadets and Cavs are playing much more complex books with Mick more cold attacks, better front to back ensemble work and overall better musical ensemble work! I used to love BD... :(
Way to much HYPE...from the idiots in the crowd..!! The Q line is great and actually are playing more difficulty than the snares...😎The drums are selling the players, not the players selling the drums!
I hate everyone yelling. I get the "crowd is hyped" thing. It's more like the crowd is annoying. It's one thing if it is real excitement, but it's excitement mixed with people being ridiculous. 20 years from now when I watch these videos I want to be able to enjoy the drumming, not a bunch of idiots that showed up to "be hype." So please stop, people. I'd get it that I'm possibly blowing it out of proportion if this was the only video where this happens, but it isn't. I was watching a Chino Hills high school drum line and you'd think the crowd was part of the performance. Please stop. Thanks
Wow! The crowd seemed VERY impressed that the line could play quarter notes., LOLOL! The hyperly exaggerated movements these days by drumlines are more of a visual distraction than an enhancement to the visual package. Thumbs down, smh.
The camera movements actually make it really enjoyable 👌🏾
thanks!
what was this filmed on if you dont mind me asking (and what settings too)?

Silas
Sabeel Khurram. Those singles!

I miss Kaito
0:23 Me too brandon
Justin Gorfinkel Lmao
that split on the tenors is the highlight this year...
I love playing snare but bass seems so fun, the bass line gave me chills it’s so cool
Who came here for 0:19
me
me
me
0:37-0:40
Brandon olander edge of the line, my hero
0:59 when the snares hit the single notes and the camera moves along with it, amazing
The camera movements made it sooo entertaining!
5:28 "I'm drinkin' lean, it help me sleep"
Brendon Blanco it actually says “drink bleach to help me sleep”
Kinda funny that half of these guys were with the Bluecoats last year and thought "I wanna be in a a corps that'll win next year" they go to BD and bluecoats win
Uhh, none of these guys marched Bluecoats in 2015.
Lmao what? 😂
You must be good at reading minds, or just assuming things
Guy second to the right most snares (next to brandon) marched coats
ZayProductions Which video?
This is why I love them
Me too biscuit @simonvanderwall7086
the young prospect still on the end of the line.....I remember watching him when he was just a little kid playing along with them....
Actually I think Arjun is younger than he is and he's close to center
I could have sworn Arjun was younger cause when he marched coats in 2014 he was 15 and Brandon was 16
+Tony Macaroni my bad I thought he was sorry about that
Tony Macaroni arjun is younger, he was 15 when he marched coats
urmom5675 nah, you're right, he was 15 in coats and is a year younger than Brandon. He ages out in 2020. And is going to be 18 this upcoming season in 2017
From far away you could mistake their drums with the 2014 movie film finish
maybe
Such beautiful technique, and how they manage to stay in sync is fantastic, they clearly demonstrate their dedication its fantastic!
Tbh Idek You should see other drumlines then from this year
Not typically one to enjoy bd book but this year was absolutely terrifying. Like they were a straight up big ass wall of 100% beef. Really cool book!
:48 '91 SCV tribute. Nice one Scojo!
I'm so sad that they watered down the tenor feature. It was so amazing at the beginning of the season!
2:56 nice ditty reference :P
i noticed that
They are amazing....I was at DCI west it was my first show....incredible!!!
Such a great show!! Definitely one to remember.
Dave glyde writes some sick notes
2:30 didn't they do literally that exact same accel. lick in 2007
Yep
wow 9 years ago such a big deal
4:11 that flick of the wrist tho. They sticks like 💥
*blue devils drumline plays quarter notes* WOAHHHHHHHHH OH MY GOODDDDDD WOOOOOOO
Why do yall always find something to whine about lmaoo.
@@BerserkRain the crowd was honestly really annoying and sounded so fake that they would “woah” at everything
Snare break was so close to being piss clean. Will be solid by finals for sure.
Beautiful talent, Drum Line!!! :D
They look like they’re all in the same fraternity
Old caliban was so funky
Their book was so fucking dope that year
MY BOI RYAN ELLISSSSS
2:15 woah
Such a goated tenor line
why is Brandon so damn tiny jeez
Justin Fife that's doesn't make you any shorter, it just makes your spine curved
Caryn Denter It causes bad posture. Granted those carries force your back to straighten out so more than likley hes just short. I would guess he's around 5'4"-5'6"
+Tic Tac yeah I see him at competitions in arizona all the time im 6'1'' he is about my chest height like 5'5''/5'6""
Chef Gordon genetics.

they do what gets them wins
2:22 they had that same drum break in 2007
yeah in 2007 9 years ago??? no one who played in 2007 is playing in 2016
Oohhh....they’re kinda fine 😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️✨✨✨✨✨✨.
Damn I forgot how stacked this line is
One of the strongest quad lines ever.
Those diddle accents are killing....
Lil Brandon
3:27 Uau!!!
3:28
AWESOMENESS
For years I’ve been asking .. WHO MAKES IT OK FOR THEM TO BE A WHOLE CHEAT CODE LIKE THIS ? 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Is that Johnny Lawrence on snare
good
2:25 saving this for my own good
the drum feature from 2007
Odello Odello Odello!
Has anyone transcribed that lick at 2:00? I really want to learn it
Justin Fife thank you so much, I will definitely be learning this
Justin Fife do you have the quint solo at the beginning as well ?
Did that one guy just leave?
I feel like their bass line has improved, but now their snare line is lacking a bit compared to this. kinda sucks (edit) but hopefully now that they’re getting rid of the paint bucket drums they’ll sound better lol.
B Gzz i dont wanna say i agree because no disrespect to the blue devils they rock and theyre beasts at what they do and i love them but on the low i don’t disagree if you know what i mean
Idk snares were tight during this lot. The drums sound crappy tho.
@@flarfatron2190 listen to blue devil 2002 and tell me what do you think of how the drums sounded
The drums at the beginning always sound like they’re spamming way too much
So, I just watched a vid from semis and they had different drums. The bass drum heads had that hand imprint on the inside. Am I missing something?
They just changed the drum covers to represent the half way mark I think. But the system blue drums made it easy to change covers too.
Can somebody please tell me their approach to fast or intense rolls like in 2:26? My rolls always seems like I'm using too big of muscle groups while playing, and would love to know what their technique is for doing so
has anyone transcribed the 4:40 part?
Who else thinks this can get really repetitive at times?
Does anyone have the sheets to the quint solo at the beginning ?
I'm not a rapper
LT Guile xD
aye
Disfruté más de los alaridos de impresión de los gringos que de la banda de percu en sí... (sarcasmo)
I hear bd 07 drumbreak
Blue devils 2016 show was called “As dreams are made on” I don’t think this is it, based on the licks and the pattern on the drums them
Listen at 2:30...the tenors are mirroring the same extended roll phrase!! And cleaner than the snares!!! It's way more difficult to do , when moving from drum to drum...! Clean that scazz up snares, quit showing off visually and play clean..
Hey calm down, its the beginning of the season! Of course they're still gonna sound some what dirty. It'll sound much cleaner later in the season

Josh Tolentino oh yes the best snareline anyone will have for a long time, that’s totally why SCV one percussion in 2016
If the tenors can play this clean! and not the snares.. the HOSE will be coming!
You do realize the season just started, right? They're playing incredibly well for it to be this early in the season. This stuff is not easy. I would think you'd know this, but I guess not.
Who's the smurf @ 5:14 ? He looks like me!!!
もっとBDみしてー!
I didn't know trunks from Dragonball z played snare for bd
lol who the hell are you talking about??
+Ghost 17 2 outside the center on the right, next to Ryan Ellis
muhamed pampur lol he looks nothing like trunks
+Ghost 17 - Right? I'm looking hard af, and found only disappointment
John Adams lol yea dbz my favorite show ever and it offends me that this happened lol
BS, Madison, Cadets and Cavs are playing much more complex books with Mick more cold attacks, better front to back ensemble work and overall better musical ensemble work!
I used to love BD... :(
Agreed, but I never was a fan of Blue Devils.
Lol. I marched Madison this year. BD played way harder notes than us.
Some enjoyed the camera movements. I actually need sea sick pills now.
never thought i would respect BDs line more than Coats
James Eriksen why would you lol
The last year that blue devils cared about being clean :(
These guys are becoming tiring...same sold shit year after year
Way to much HYPE...from the idiots in the crowd..!! The Q line is great and actually are playing more difficulty than the snares...😎The drums are selling the players, not the players selling the drums!
this comment made no sense.
That's because YOU don't get it!..
No one understands it but you lol
lots of visuals, double strokes and splits. Be cool to see some good old book reports or a flam drags. I know I don't get it right.
Yep!! It's all diddly doo da day!!
Dissssa siddd ssssissa ticky rack!
this is the easiest stuff I've ever seen. "WOW LOOK HOW LOUD THEY CAN PLAY! SO COOL" way too much hype for such easy stuff
Kirk Lamd easy stuff is the hardest stuff to clean. Common, any mature player knows that.
Kirk Lamd play that snare feature with the cold attack 5 on one hand clean with 8 other snares and then say that
NUTTY
Why does their drumming sound sound boring and basic
Toreyjr360 Plays cause u don’t understand it
I think my dad could play the snare for blue devils

not even close 💀💀
