    Great video, thank you! Our business class flights with Virgin have been canceled as Virgin stops the Heathrow to Shanghai leg in October after 22 years of flying there. In short, Virgin moved us over to China Eastern! We can't find how we choose our seats or manage our flights. Did you manage to do this before you departed? xx

    Thank you for your honest review. I was deliberating between paying £400 more for BA flights or take China Eastern. Going to go with BA for the peace of mind!

    Very helpful. I have been trying to decide between China Eastern and Singapore Airlines (Business Class) for my trip back to Cairns, Australia from London in February. I want to take China Eastern because they will just be restarting flights from Shanghai to Cairns and I want to encourage them to continue the flights. Based on your experience I will plan a stopover in Shanghai. : )

    Hi Ann, sorry to learn about your story with China Eastern. They do have a problem with speaking English among their staffs. I mean cabin crew may be able to speak but the ground staff in general lacks such ability. So they failed to tell you that you two were delayed and denied access to other flights that day for security reasons. In civil aviation nowadays it is strictly forbidden to allow passengers to travel separately from their checked-in baggages (for terrorist attack concerns). It sounds stupid that they didn't load your baggage with you in the first flight. But as it happened so, you would have to wait for your baggage and recheck it in for your connection flight. That is just the security requirement which the ground staff didn't communicate well due to their language incompetence. We do hope such chaos away from our travels, but I hope my explanation could answer some of your questions.

    • @annawini
      @annawini  9 месяцев назад +1

      Ah thank you for telling us this. We didn’t know that you can’t travel separately from your luggage no one explained that to us because of the language barrier. I guess that makes sense!

      Sounds like BS. The bag owner doesn't need to be present when a bag gets checked. That they didnt load the bag on the first flight (it flew unaccompanied) indicates you arent telling the full truth. China Eastern created a problem for its passengers and doesn't seem to care about customer service.

    Thanks for sharing,glad you got through the dramas eventually! I’m considering Sydney to London on my own with them but will have to think a bit more 😬 I did have a question about their carry on limits … the website says one bag only , but reading other sites they say a personal item is also allowed (handbag/laptop etc) , what was your experience ?

    • @annawini
      @annawini  9 месяцев назад +1

      You’re welcome! Yes with our business seats I had a handbag (my husband had a backpack) and a cabin size hand luggage bag too each. You’re also allowed 2 large checked bags per person.

      Perfect! thanks so much (I've been pouring over reviews watching people boarding etc to try and figure it out!) & the flights are very good price ( I might download an English/Mandarin dictionary just in case though! ) . congratulations btw, hope Honeymoon was all fabulous after that inauspicious start @@annawini

    Anna? Was your Stop Over 8 hours plus? Did CEA offer you both free Accoms regarding a Hotel? Hold CEA Accountable if they didn’t oblige you. I say cause I flew CEA from SFO to Guangzhou and stayed at he Don Fong, an Empire. CEA is known for delayed flights and CEA lie like hell at the info desks?

    • @annawini
      @annawini  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes the stop was around 15 hours and they offered free accommodation but we had to argue to be put in a better hotel the first one they offered was awful!! Yes they don’t tell you anything I was not impressed.

    Hi! When you got the free lounge, which lounge was it and was it ant good.

    Thank you for clearing up the lounge question at Heathrow T4. I’m due to fly China Eastern from there in a couple of months time and have been disappointed by the apparent lack of lounge facilities. It’s not mentioned on their website and neither do they show up on the Plaza Premium website.
    I’m intrigued how you managed to check in online. Everything I’ve seen so far has been in Mandarin, none of which I understand. I’ve seen references to an app in English, but can’t find it.
    I wouldn’t be put off the airline following a baggage issue during transfer. It happens a lot with other airlines too, including major airlines. Last year Lufthansa lost my check-in bag at Frankfurt and even denied any knowledge of it when I arrived at Heathrow. Fortunately it turned up a few days later.
    The language problem when trying to sort out issues can also happen anywhere. Russians are particularly good at professing not to understand English when it suits them!

    • @annawini
      @annawini  8 месяцев назад +1

      You’re welcome I’m glad it helped a bit! We also struggled checking in online with the language barrier. It’s also easy to check in at the desk at the airport

    • @knighterrant4
      @knighterrant4 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks Ann. I’ll probably give the online check-in a miss and save it for the airport. My seats are reserved and priority airport check-in is usually quick, so no real advantage to online.
      Keep up the good work.
      Tim

    Very informative review. It is quite a shame that Shanghai itself is a very tier 1 modern city but the Airline itself is very much part stuck in their old ways when unhappy path events happen, but some things are really good. I believe 1 reason for not being allowed on a flight is that baggage must follow the passenger for security purposes. It wouldn’t surprise me that the baggage transit issue may have stemmed from the Heathrow baggage handlers not loading baggage in a helpful manner. What I mean is that yours and the other couple’s checked baggage should have been stored inside a baggage cage marked for transit and loaded last into the belly of the aircraft to ensure it gets taken off the aircraft first upon landing. It seems it wasn’t and instead stored deeper inside the belly or even along side freight cages, therefore trapping it for extended period of time.
    The reverse herringbone hard product isn’t bad and similar in design to Cathay Pacific with the flip out screens. It’s a product design which is around a decade old and could do with a refresh. I know CX is currently renewing theirs to the Aria Suite. Cabin crew can be hit and miss, but seems they are allocating crew with some English skills on English speaking routes, which helps with the soft product.
    In my opinion China Eastern is cheap for a reason and can be hit and miss. If there is an airline that has fares that aren’t a mile difference then go with a competing one, but then again some like BA have fallen far from grace and become a hit and miss airline themselves.

      Rubbish, there was ample time for the bag to be unloaded if it was on that flight. If it wasn't loaded, it would have travelled unaccompanied on the next flight. It's therefore acceptable for unaccompanied baggage. China Eastern have made a customer iunhappy for no good reason, I would be sacking staff if I was running this airline.
