I never realised how much I didn't know about the star wars galaxy before coming across this channel, I binge watch every day after work as your material in my opinion is better than what Disney is doing these days, a lot of people I know don't like star wars so it's kind of like a release to turn to this channel and also strangely feel most at home among other fans, you make the channel fun and engaging, you obviously love what you do and put a lot into it (thinking of the Vader fan film... Why did Disney have to ruin Star Wars? George Lucas didn’t have to sell the franchise to them, he could’ve just kept directing it instead of retiring. They totally threw off the storyline and missed the whole point of what it was about. The franchise was about The Chosen One, which is Anakin Skywalker. They destroyed it to where it doesn’t even make sense. They destroyed and they ruined Star Wars.

I think the Mara Jade character is much more complex than Black Widow. But since Disney decided to trash the EU and create their own poorly conceived story arc we’ll probably never know. I don’t think Mara Jade fit with Disney’s idea of what they wanted a Strong female character to be. Mara Jade is formidably powerful but at the same time tragically flawed and conflicted. The creative team currently at Disney Lucas films could not conceive a powerful female character that is deeply flawed. Luke's compassion is so great that he even had no problem having a former emperor's assassin as friend and then significant other. Luke's heart is beyond golden bro, it's the force itself.
I liked the storytelling potential of Luke's character arc in TLJ, but not how it was justified/written, especially his attempted murder of Ben being the cause of it all. A good idea which was badly executed, imo.

TheShreester saddest thing about the new trilogy is how much potential was wasted. At every turn they had the potential for an excellent storyline. I still enjoy the films, but watching the films together it sounds like the rough draft of the trilogy and nothing is structured to give true purpose to character action and nothing is connected to OT ideas.
She is neither to those of us who are true fans. The EU is far better than the sequel crap we got and she is what a true strong female character is supposed to be like

Of course, stuff inconsistent with TCW show for the PT could also be rebranded as Legends.

4n631ic0b1ivi0n It was just that Lucas’ story ended with episode 6 and he started thinking about handing the franchise over to others when he made that statement, so he wanted to distance himself from the EU. But, before then he was ok with the EU and wasn’t shy about stepping in to shake things up here and there. The Heir to the Empire trilogy, which first introduced Mara Jade, he referred to for years as episodes 7,8 & 9 in book form, but he was keen in mentioning that that was part of the EU rather than his work.
Palpatine: The EU is a pathway to great stories some consider to be non-canon. Anakin: Is it possible to learn these stories? Palpatine: Not from a mouse.
legends still has tons of issues. Luke becomes ridiculously overpowered (way more powerful than rey), palpatine also gets cloned multiple times in dumber ways than rise of skywalker. in one version han solo just shot him and he died ending the conflict.
It's hit and miss. The best of all the books I've read was The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. Next, The Truce at Bakura, set literally a day after ROTJ, Shadows of the Empire (flawed but good), I Jedi (original character, but good), Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, and some of The New Jedi Order, where you meet that new villain talked about in this video. Honestly, it's the Expanded Universe that spoiled me before the sequels came out. There's not a single original storyline in the sequel trilogy that's not previously explored in the EU, and most of those stories were not that great. It's like they took the most unoriginal ideas and went with those. The Thrawn Trilogy is actually just as good as the classic trilogy--the only gripe I have are those Force-blocking creatures, because the Force is life. But that's it. Everything else in that trilogy is stellar.
I loved her in the legends novels! The fact that she was an assassin sent to kill Luke, and then ends up falling in love with him, is such a great story! I really hope they find a way to make her cannon!

Mara Jade was one of my favorite characters in the entire storyline. The Star Wars movies would have been far superior if the Thrawn and Mara Jade storylines would have been added to the big screen events. Disney, can you imagine what Rey would have learned under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker? Especially if Luke wasn't a hermit.
My favorite character in the Star Wars universe and her and Luke's relationship should have been what the sequel trilogy should have been about. Luke and Mara, Talon Karrde, the Solos, and Thrawn.
I agree but due to mark Hamilton's and the others age, I feel like they should've started off with Luke and Mara, Han and Leia's children. They would be new characters and have their own adventures.
The way I look at it is it’s a fictional story and canon is whatever you want it to be, and sorry Disney, but George Lucas has the final word. They can’t buy your imagination. You can also imagine that most of this Legends stuff happened in between ep VI and VII. Just can’t think about it too hard or you’ll notice things that don’t make sense.
She was NEVER cannon. George never included the expanded universe as cannon. Disney essentially continued with what George had done. They just keep the same cannon Lucas did.
What pissed me off is she jumped to all kinds of conclusions, and instead of confronting her nephew she just decides she will ambush him and murder him. I lost respect for her there and was glad she was killed.
Jaina was a badass too. She got her arm lopped off and she went berserk and started lobbing force lightning like it was going out of style. She was deadly in a fight and she was not afraid of doing anything for her family to be safe.
I agree. Mara Jade was my favorite expanded universe character too. It wasn't 1 specific moment, but her entire arc and her unwavering character. Yes, she went through changes, but those changes were due to her understanding of the universe changing as she learned and was exposed to new information. But no matter where she was in that arc, she acted with complete and total sincerity. She was respectable.

She was trained by the Emperor as a force using assassin at first and after the trilogy (in which she barely even uses the force at all) she is then trained further by Luke. Of course training of force sensitive individuals results in them becoming more proficient. No matter who they're screwing. :P
I just want to come here and try and spread the love for Shannon McRandle, who was the original model for Mara Jade. Most art you see of Mara Jade is her. She recently had a heavy battle with cancer but looks well know. She loves the character of Mara Jade so much and was a avid reader of the eu books. She is what so many picture in our heads when we think of Mara Jade and she deserves more recognition!
The fact that Disney had incredible material to pull from and still shitted out the last three movies is sad. Like damn, these Legend stories are incredible.
canon is from a persons standpoint. this originally was canon till some executives bought a story and changed it. so in most fans view point this is canon and what ever those board members created is well just a story and nothing to do with Star Wars

I would still love to see this done, and think it’s possible especially with Disney + being a thing now. Make it animated and title it something like The Legends Chronicles. It can even start off live action, and do something like (don’t kill me for this) Last Jedi in having someone tell it as a story (I believe there was a novel that also told “exaggerated stories as well). As the storyteller starts the story it can fade into animation style with the opening credits. I know this will never happen, but man what an awesome way to tell Legend stories that fans have grown up with and loved. It can include the novels and comics. I would love to see an animated story from Tales Of The Jedi with Ulic, his bro Cay (or Clay) and Nomi Sunrider, and of course one of my fav extended universe villains since Thrawn, Exar Kuun. So yea let’s see the Thrawn trilogy turned into a movie, it can be done under the right circumstances Hell Disney is doing a Marvel’s “What If” series so why not do this idea, or a similar one lol
The fight scenes are horrible since Disney took over as well. I mean really really bad. 1, 2 and 3 had by far the best fight scenes. Even in 4, 5 and 6 the fight scenes got you feeling crazy emotion as father and son fought. 7, 8 and 9 suck! They just suck.
Exactly!!! They "made" Holdo in TLJ, but completely copied Winter's character whilst doing so. They could've easily just used Winter, especially since she's canon by being in ANH and ESB, though she's not exactly a focus, just Leia's aide

I always liked Mara Jades’ character. My favorite moment from the books was when Anakin Solo was with her while she was pregnant and a Anakin was using the force to move boxes around in their camp and she told him that he shouldn’t rely on the force so much when doing the simple to difficult things. From that discussion Anakin decides to grow in physical strength. Which in turn only adds more to strength with the force, because he can add his physical strength and force strength to make him so much more. Anakin Solo is one of those characters I loved as well and his death in the book series would have made one heck of a last stand moment for the Star Wars franchise.

The book where he learns from mara about gaining physical strength I think was “balance point” in the same series. But it was when Mara was pregnant with Ben skywalker and was hiding before she gave birth.
As a teenager in the 90's who begged his parents for all the Extended Universe novels I could get... yes Mara Jade is one of my favorites. I still have most of my original paperbacks. at least 40 of them.

Whenever there's a *confirmed* trilogy, the second movie is supposed to be the ''revelation/sh*t is going down'' movie and the third is the ''wrap it up'' movie, think Lord of the Rings. That's why I wish JJ Abrams was in control of the WHOLE trilogy, it would be more coherent and we would have been able to tell by the third that everything is coming to a close...and *NOT* still be questioning about Rey's origin, plus her use of the Force would have been explained by the second AND Luke wouldn't have died so soon because I truly believe JJ had plans for 'Luke vs Snoke' in the third, THEN Luke would have died. But RJ flipped everything on its head....I'll say this much about Rian, yes he has good ideas, but sometimes his execution of those ideas are lacking, they're like ''meh''.
Well hopefully find out in the next movie I think she a skywalker always felt that way there's just not a lot of proof in the movies except from the sabre calling to her and how fast she learns new force powers

My favorite moment with Mara Jade is when she's on Dantooine with Anakin Solo. The lesson she gives him about the Force is incredible. She is easily one of my favorite Star Wars characters.

here's a better pattern, luke and mara had a son named ben *for luke it makes sense to name his kid ben* leia and han had 3 kids *anakin youngest, jaina and jacen* long story short jacen turned to the dark side, he was unredeemable, jaina had to kill him in the end. if you look up pictures of jaina solo, rey is somewhat of a spitting image of her looks whise. basically disney decanoned legends and copied it in the most piss poor way imaginable to seem "original".
I wouldn't mind if Finn's story wasn't even remotely 1:1 Kyle's, but they REALLY did have the building blocks gift wrapped and they wasted it. What's worse is that they tease him to be the new big hero, then subvert that for Rey, and then make him Force-sensitive anyway, meaning. You didn't even need to change his story arc, since it STILL gels a bit with Kyle wanting to distance himself from the Empire. You'd still even have the same thing as what The Last Jedi was going for: a nobody rising to become a hero. Being Force-sensitive made him special, sure, but not SUPER special. Again, just like Kyle. Honestly, EVERYTHING they wanted to accomplish in this trilogy, they could've done much better had they just gone with Finn as the hero and use Kyle's story as a roadmap. In hindsight, while George writing by the seat of his pants to try to find a way to make Anakin special enough to warrant training (see The Hermit's Journey by SF Debris chronicling that) did kind of bump up the Skywalkers' importance, it's really the Sequel Trilogy that made it ridiculous
I was upset when I heard that Timothy Zahn’s Trilogy would not be movies 7, 8 and 9. I bought all three books as well as the books for West End Game’s D6 RPG...a fantastic read and game play. Disney really butchered the three movies after Return of the Jedi.

I’ve been thinking, BOTH Mara and Starkiller {about three years apart} grow up and train at the Empire’s height after ROTS, trained separately by Vader and Palpatine, would be sweet if the two at least crossed paths if not made a little Master &Apprentice/Big Bro & Lil Sis relationship.
I remember the Yuuzhan Vong, my god, they were a terrifying race. Eating, consuming worlds unlike the Galaxy had ever seen. Also Mara Jade...damn fine character.
The Vong were nightmarish. I wish the New Jedi Order was finished properly instead of rushed to completion by being cut in half in terms of length. It was originally supposed to be twice as long, at least according to the interview transcripts included in copies of the final book.
I loved those books. It was the saddest time when Chewy died. I thought it was a mistake and he would pop back. Then when he never popped back in it mad the sadness worse. You would need a TV series to add that type of depth. Movies are too short.

Well, kinda. Star Wars is subjective. You might like this better, but in my eyes, I love the sequels. This seems too powerful, and they aren't doing anything special, they are just being alive. I respect your opinion all the same
I remember reading the Timothy Zahn series of books back in the early/mid 90's and she was one of the characters. Very well written, would have loved to see a movie develop based on those stories.

@@jsanders775 Lucas considered the EU to be a separate universe from the films which were set in his own "Lucasverse" but Lucasfilm never really defined a canon, allowing both universes to co-exist, which was a better solution than Disney's decision to exclude the EU from their canon, but shamelessly steal stories, ideas and characters from it!
Mara Jade had a purple lightsaber long before Sam Jackson requested it in Attack of the Clones. Much like Exar Kun was the first to wield a double bladed lightsaber, about 2 years before Maul wielded it onscreen.
Thank you for this. Mara Jade is one of my favorites in Star Wars canon, and would have LOVED seeing her on screen. I lost all my books in the Paradise Camp Fire in 2018, but they WILL be replaced.
That whore Mara didn't have a purple lightsaber. She had a blue lightsaber, that which belonged to Luke and his father, never mind that she had no respect for either of them.
Mara Jade is one of my favorite characters from Legends. Too bad she never made it to the big screen. Their relationship history with Luke is far more engaging than Reilo. Also there are several fan-made Mara Jade trailers as well as fan-made short films. I would love to see this character in some of the projects. P.S. He's so compassionate, kind, he's wonderful. I'm never going to forget Luke's heart, it brought light to a very dark time for me.
Now I'm starting to like old expanded universe story of Luke Skywalker, he had a fulfilled life rather turning him into another hermit like Obi Wan.
He had a very interesting life. Even turning to dark side for moment and then back to light.
Luke was a certifiable Bad Ass. He always questioned his ability to be a Jedi Master and train Jedi. Mara made him whole.

TheShreester saddest thing about the new trilogy is how much potential was wasted. At every turn they had the potential for an excellent storyline. I still enjoy the films, but watching the films together it sounds like the rough draft of the trilogy and nothing is structured to give true purpose to character action and nothing is connected to OT ideas.

Honestly, Disney should have just retconned everything past Ep 1 of Legends and did it themselves with their own Heir to the Empire which throws characters from Rebels and Clones Wars into the story.

legends still has tons of issues. Luke becomes ridiculously overpowered (way more powerful than rey), palpatine also gets cloned multiple times in dumber ways than rise of skywalker. in one version han solo just shot him and he died ending the conflict.

It's hit and miss. The best of all the books I've read was The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. Next, The Truce at Bakura, set literally a day after ROTJ, Shadows of the Empire (flawed but good), I Jedi (original character, but good), Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, and some of The New Jedi Order, where you meet that new villain talked about in this video.
Honestly, it's the Expanded Universe that spoiled me before the sequels came out. There's not a single original storyline in the sequel trilogy that's not previously explored in the EU, and most of those stories were not that great. It's like they took the most unoriginal ideas and went with those. The Thrawn Trilogy is actually just as good as the classic trilogy--the only gripe I have are those Force-blocking creatures, because the Force is life. But that's it. Everything else in that trilogy is stellar.

Mara Jade was one of my favorite characters in the entire storyline. The Star Wars movies would have been far superior if the Thrawn and Mara Jade storylines would have been added to the big screen events. The way I look at it is it’s a fictional story and canon is whatever you want it to be, and sorry Disney, but George Lucas has the final word. They can’t buy your imagination. You can also imagine that most of this Legends stuff happened in between ep VI and VII. Just can’t think about it too hard or you’ll notice things that don’t make sense.
She was NEVER cannon. George never included the expanded universe as cannon. Disney essentially continued with what George had done. They just keep the same cannon Lucas did.

I agree. Mara Jade was my favorite expanded universe character too. It wasn't 1 specific moment, but her entire arc and her unwavering character. Yes, she went through changes, but those changes were due to her understanding of the universe changing as she learned and was exposed to new information. But no matter where she was in that arc, she acted with complete and total sincerity. She was respectable.

I just want to come here and try and spread the love for Shannon McRandle, who was the original model for Mara Jade. Most art you see of Mara Jade is her. She recently had a heavy battle with cancer but looks well know. She loves the character of Mara Jade so much and was a avid reader of the eu books. She is what so many picture in our heads when we think of Mara Jade and she deserves more recognition!

I would still love to see this done, and think it’s possible especially with Disney + being a thing now. Make it animated and title it something like The Legends Chronicles. It can even start off live action, and do something like (don’t kill me for this) Last Jedi in having someone tell it as a story (I believe there was a novel that also told “exaggerated stories as well). As the storyteller starts the story it can fade into animation style with the opening credits. I know this will never happen, but man what an awesome way to tell Legend stories that fans have grown up with and loved. It can include the novels and comics. I would love to see an animated story from Tales Of The Jedi with Ulic, his bro Cay (or Clay) and Nomi Sunrider, and of course one of my fav extended universe villains since Thrawn, Exar Kuun. So yea let’s see the Thrawn trilogy turned into a movie, it can be done under the right circumstances Hell Disney is doing a Marvel’s “What If” series so why not do this idea, or a similar one lol

I always liked Mara Jades’ character. My favorite moment from the books was when Anakin Solo was with her while she was pregnant and a Anakin was using the force to move boxes around in their camp and she told him that he shouldn’t rely on the force so much when doing the simple to difficult things. From that discussion Anakin decides to grow in physical strength. Which in turn only adds more to strength with the force, because he can add his physical strength and force strength to make him so much more.
Anakin Solo is one of those characters I loved as well and his death in the book series would have made one heck of a last stand moment for the Star Wars franchise.

Kidd....gotta agree. Whenever there's a *confirmed* trilogy, the second movie is supposed to be the ''revelation/sh*t is going down'' movie and the third is the ''wrap it up'' movie, think Lord of the Rings.
That's why I wish JJ Abrams was in control of the WHOLE trilogy, it would be more coherent and we would have been able to tell by the third that everything is coming to a close...and *NOT* still be questioning about Rey's origin, plus her use of the Force would have been explained by the second AND Luke wouldn't have died so soon because I truly believe JJ had plans for 'Luke vs Snoke' in the third, THEN Luke would have died.

here's a better pattern, luke and mara had a son named ben *for luke it makes sense to name his kid ben* leia and han had 3 kids *anakin youngest, jaina and jacen* long story short jacen turned to the dark side, he was unredeemable, jaina had to kill him in the end. if you look up pictures of jaina solo, rey is somewhat of a spitting image of her looks whise.
basically disney decanoned legends and copied it in the most piss poor way imaginable to seem "original".

I wouldn't mind if Finn's story wasn't even remotely 1:1 Kyle's, but they REALLY did have the building blocks gift wrapped and they wasted it. What's worse is that they tease him to be the new big hero, then subvert that for Rey, and then make him Force-sensitive anyway, meaning. You didn't even need to change his story arc, since it STILL gels a bit with Kyle wanting to distance himself from the Empire.
You'd still even have the same thing as what The Last Jedi was going for: a nobody rising to become a hero. Being Force-sensitive made him special, sure, but not SUPER special. Again, just like Kyle. Honestly, EVERYTHING they wanted to accomplish in this trilogy, they could've done much better had they just gone with Finn as the hero and use Kyle's story as a roadmap.
In hindsight, while George writing by the seat of his pants to try to find a way to make Anakin special enough to warrant training (see The Hermit's Journey by SF Debris chronicling that) did kind of bump up the Skywalkers' importance, it's really the Sequel Trilogy that made it ridiculous

I was upset when I heard that Timothy Zahn’s Trilogy would not be movies 7, 8 and 9. I bought all three books as well as the books for West End Game’s D6 RPG...a fantastic read and game play. Disney really butchered the three movies after Return of the Jedi.

The Vong were nightmarish. I wish the New Jedi Order was finished properly instead of rushed to completion by being cut in half in terms of length. It was originally supposed to be twice as long, at least according to the interview transcripts included in copies of the final book.

I loved those books. It was the saddest time when Chewy died. I thought it was a mistake and he would pop back. Then when he never popped back in it mad the sadness worse. You would need a TV series to add that type of depth. Movies are too short.

Well, kinda. Star Wars is subjective. You might like this better, but in my eyes, I love the sequels. This seems too powerful, and they aren't doing anything special, they are just being alive. I respect your opinion all the same
I remember reading the Timothy Zahn series of books back in the early/mid 90's and she was one of the characters. Very well written, would have loved to see a movie develop based on those stories.

Mara Jade had a purple lightsaber long before Sam Jackson requested it in Attack of the Clones. Much like Exar Kun was the first to wield a double bladed lightsaber, about 2 years before Maul wielded it onscreen.

Thank you for this. Mara Jade is one of my favorites in Star Wars canon, and would have LOVED seeing her on screen. I lost all my books in the Paradise Camp Fire in 2018, but they WILL be replaced.

Mara Jade is one of my favorite characters from Legends. Too bad she never made it to the big screen. Their relationship history with Luke is far more engaging than Reilo. Also there are several fan-made Mara Jade trailers as well as fan-made short films. I would love to see this character in some of the projects.
