I am going to a trade show soon.
I have wanted to get my TIG fingers into local welding supplies for a while now but didn’t really know how to go about doing that so I am hoping that attending a this trade show will give me some insights.
So what I am doing in this video is making a prototype of a Point of purchase display for that show.
My plan is to take this prototype into my local welding supply and get their feedback on it..
Is it too big? Too small? Would they put this display on their counter? Etc.
I would probably get some props like wood blocks for a job like this but since its a point of purchase display for TIG fingers, I will use a tig finger to prop for all the welds.
Well after I finished this, I drove to my preferred local welding supply which is Holston gases.
They were very helpful and gave me some constructive criticism as well as some contact info for their main buyer in Knoxville Tenn.
One of the suggestions was to make it a bit smaller.
So stay tuned for that video and I will keep you posted on my progress on getting my TIG fingers into local welding supply stores.

He's right about weld inspections. Take me into a boat dealership and I can't leave until I look at all the welds. lol I never used to be this way until I learned how to tig aluminum.

I had to laugh while you were doing this. At 75 there is never enough light or magnification! I also laughed because I work at an engineering college and I continually get dxf files for "boxes" that consist of 6 rectangals with little thought given to bending and saving weld time (yes, in your case it is to showcase the welds). Keep pumping out these videos Jodi as you have done more to promote welding than Miller, Lincoln, Esab etc!

The only downside to the TIG Finger is that every time one of your buddy’s who also welds comes by, your TF goes missing 😤 Mine have lasted forever and work as well today as they did years ago when purchased. A top shelf product!

  • @DerekPetersonLives
    @DerekPetersonLives 2 месяца назад +5

Doing retail for 8 years now my first thought was also going smaller with it
I would also have the bottom inside be tapered, possibly fillet weld a slanted bottom shelf, that way the product laying down could look displayed as well without just looking like a dump bin
Having dividers would lend to easier inventorying the different sizes.
Depending on how fast the retailer is selling these peghooks also take more time to stock. But if they liked the pegs having the peghook welded on instead of loose is a BIG bonus (keeps them from getting lifted out of wack) just remember to ball off the end of the hook, this could also be an area to display a weld
Another great area would be lap welding a plaque on that would show the price tag at the base, the only trick with that is some retailers use different tagging sizes.
Still loving the content! Thanks for sharing!

My local welding supply shop stock them in the UK. Oxford Welding Supplies. Must have bought about 10 of them for myself over the years. Don’t weld without one and always have a new spare on me. Recently got my company to buy a load in to stock in the cupboard for all the other welders in the shop. Amazing product!

Yep, you want it just big enough to frame the product and allow the customer to pull the product with no frustration. This causes the display to both look full, which triggers a subconscious perception of abundance in the store and has a minimal footprint ...every inch of the store being expensive real eastate....thanks again Jody...hope you and yours are doin great.

Just pulled the trigger on a TIG Finger myself, won't be using it for a couple of days but I boiled a pot of water and pressed my hand against the wall of the pot while wearing it, didn't feel a thing after about a minute or so of shoving my hand into the wall of the pot until my wrist had tremors. Released pressure after realizing that if I wasn't feeling it after over a minute, the pot would've cooled down by the time the heat would finally transfer to my hand. Fantastic product, looking forward to spoiling myself for aluminum and stainless work.

Great idea with the display case Jody...years ago as you prbably remember Marquette, Forney, Harris ect, welding had display cases of rods and accesories in just about all the welding supply and auto parts stores with great success. I have both size TIG'Fnrs, used them at work and my home shop with great results SAVED a lot of gloves and fingers lol!

Jody, been using the Tig Finger for the past nine years. It’s a little ugly and dirty now, but still keeps my finger cool and glides along helping me produce a proper “prop”
Truth, if I don’t have it on when I’m doing Tig, my hand feels bare, and I gotta grab it!
Hoping this takes off in shops like a rocket. 👍👍
    Excellent product!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Even back when Jody was getting started on the 'tube, they were the best thing around. He has been doing it well for a really long time. I've done some streaming and videos for training, and once you dive in to cinematography, it gets complex fast. It's a skill all it's own, and will make or break a channel with content like this. His videos being no-nonsense and straight to the point, with no stupid 30 second intro, definitely helps.

Jody, I suggest having your parts laser cut and punch some decorative holes in your aluminum case, and use dimple dies on them like you see in Motorsports. Guys start drooling when they see dimple dies and TIG welding, trust me.

Love the display idea Jody awesome video as always.🔥 I wouldn’t even touch aluminum without a Tig finger use them for everything. Also helps keep your gloves from shrinking from the heat 😂. Don’t know if it’s possible but if you can try selling them at places like northern tool and maybe harbor freight maybe smaller time people may see it there 🤷‍♂️ probably harder to get them to sell products though
