The primeweld TIG 325x has a low 5 amp start as well as great amperage range up to 325amps for thick aluminum.
I don't know of any other 325 amp tig welding machine that is this affordable and where the company has a great track record of customer support.

I showed the rule of 33 pulse settings for thin steel where pulses per second, background current, and pulse width are all set to 33. The rule of 33 is a great way to remember good starting point for high speed pulse settings.
I used a low AC frequency of 50 hz on the 1/4" thick aluminum corner joint because I like lower frequency settings on thick aluminum corner joints.

It is nice to see how the prices are coming down to an affordable level. A suggestion for you. Could you put together a cheat sheet for weld setting, cup sizes, rod sizes, etcetera as a quick reference to DIYers? It would be an expanded version of the chart you find on welders.
Yes!!! It’s nice that the prices are coming down.
I second a request for a cheat sheet! I plan on buying my first welder this week and have been doing alot of research on affordable tig welders. I can't find many negatives about the PrimeWeld TIG325X so I think this is what I'm buying. I really like the higher amperage available to be able to weld 1/2" thick materials when needed. I'll have your videos on repeat to learn as fast as possible
Picked up my 325 in july. Definitely looking forward to detailed how-to video series. You, my dear sir, are full of knowledge that newbs like me are happy to soak up.
Retired about a year ago (computer software) and spent the past 6 weeks watching all of your videos (except podcasts). Thanks. You've taught me a lot about welding. My dad was a welder (mostly mil-spec heliarc) and had me run lots and lots of 7018 beads when I was a teenager so that I could get a job if I wanted one (must have been easier to get a welding job in those days), but I had no interest at 17. Very tempted to make it a hobby now - but I have no welding projects. (I'd enjoy something like April Wilkersons carport or Austin Ross carport but done properly -- process choice, weld type, structural considerations - lots to improve.) Anyway, I appreciate all your work. (Would love an excuse to buy that welder and really learn 7018 along with TIG.)
Back in my Tool and Die maker days TIG welding molds and re-machining I would weld paper clips together side by side goofing around. Would drop a small bead of 4140 rod on the damaged mold section and then grind and EDM the mold back out to spec. Big Miller transformer welder. I remember opening the back lid up and watching the arcs on the contacts. 23 years later I own a Vulcan TIG. Lot of fun. At 58 I can't see as good. Enjoy your channel!!
I bought one just before they came on weldmonger store. Im quite amazed how nice it welds, just couldn't justify the $12,000 price tag on the standalone dynasty 400. The fan is louder, about the same as my old Syncrowave, not terrible. Its definitely as smooth as my 210 DX Dynasty, but wayyy more powerful !! Always been a red/blue guy we'll see how it goes, they're all made in China anyway. Throw it away in 5-10 years. I can buy 10 of these for the price of a chinese dynasty🤣🤣
Fantastic video and great welding skills I’m great also with the aluminum but I have to admit you absolutely impressed me with the box cutter blades I have never seen that before great stuff!
Thanks for the great video and information Jodie. Stay safe around there. Fred.
About the time I get content with my antique dinosaur Syncrowave 500 you show a machine like this. Been needing to restock tig equipment guess I need to open the checkbook and take the plung. Been a long time viewer and really enjoy your channel.
I just added the pulser to my Syncrowave 250 DX, and look forward to trying it out.
Super nice tips! Thank you.
Super les réglages
Merci
Nice video Jody . Yeah, you really don't want to go without the cooler with that machine or else you'll be going through a lot of torches (if you run that machine anywhere near it's capabilities). lol Even the 225 like I have, really is a game changer with the cooler . I really like that 5 amp start on that 325 . That's pretty much the only thing I would want on mine . But then pulse can get around that if needed . But that looks like my next step down the road though . Thanks for all your teaching . :)
That is a lot of Bang for the buck!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That 325A machine looks like it would pair very well with the CK Trimline 18. It's the same size as an air cooled 17, but is water cooled. It uses 3-series hardware. I Iove mine.
I haven't seen a video where anyone has knocked this machine. I wish I needed one, because I sure want one!😂
I'd have to learn to tig weld, of course!😁
I'd love to see how to set up and run Tig on a gas powered welder like a Lincoln 250 or something similar. Can it be done? How do you set up a pedal (if possible)? What kind of welds are possible or how well will it perform, etc.. I think it would make a great video.
Thanks for the video. In your opinion, will getting a better/bigger machine improve my welds?
Please make a review or/and testing of Everlast Typhoon 230 machine 🙏
Thanks for the video ✌️
Love ya jody, keep these comming❤
After you run it a little while I would like to hear your thoughts about comparing the CK machine you been running for years in comparison to this.
Crazy cleaning way out in front. I think I just need a/c to clean my fry pans.....
Can somebody please tell me the capability of this thing with MMAW
Every review i see on here is only about TIG
I can only work towards being as good as you someday
I have a 225X. What size breaker did You connect the machine to in this test? I want to try how much I can do with a 16 A breaker on 220 V without an extension. I also have the option to go to 25 A where I am now, but that requires a certified electrician to install, which costs a lot of money. Only a temporary workshop, so I don't want to spend too much on it.
Have you played with the 230 typhoon yet? Haven’t seen any vids.
What do you think of fronius?
When I was learning to tig I was taught to put a ball on the tungsten when welding aluminum and sharpen it for stainless. What's the difference?
todays inverter tig welders are different from the old school machines. A balled tungsten can still be used for certain jobs but typically does not start well with most inverters and is not really needed with inverters
I learned TIG a little more than a generation ago. I rarely used it as I don't have my own equipment and most of my employers had no need for that particular skill.
That having been said, the instructor who taught me (a Boiler Maker, by trade) taught us to use a rounded tip when welding aluminum. What advantages/differences are their between using rounded vs tapered tips on aluminum?
crisper arc start and more stable arc at low amps
Rounded green tungsten is also used with transformers. With inverters green is no longer used when welding Aluminum.
So are all of your welders you're using in your shop 110v? Or are you constantly using your dryer plug with other welders?
All my welders are dual voltage so sometimes on thin metal , I just plug to the 115v in the wall. I use the dryer plug whenever I need more amperage. It only takes a few minutes to run the cord but I did get a mouse in the house once from the door being cracked open.
@@weldingtipsandtricksbut can you blame that mouse? He wanted to learn how to TIG weld.
Your videos typically used to tout saving argon, with a #6 cup on the Al and 16-20 cfh shown - how acceptable would the cfh= 2x cup diameter be in contrast? I'm VERY shaky - not a practice-it-away type of shaky, more predict and compensate. As a home shop machinist I got a 225x, and in 2 years I've only been able to bring myself to use up 2 "S" (I think) cylinders... They're ~$120 ea here, and if I should be upping my flow to 3x, I gotta sell and get out.
I try to use the best cup for the job all things considered. But as you say, sometimes saving argon is a big consideration when you are trying to finish a job on a Saturday. Aluminum welds great with a #6 but stainless seems to want more argon and a larger diameter cup. Argon is fairly affordable in my area at around $40 for a 125cubic feet swap out.
@@weldingtipsandtricks Wow, you guys have it cheeep! I'm in rural WI... I get the cup sizing thing, it was more the 16-20 cfh for a #6 that threw me. Love the channel, and I support Weldmonger when $ allows. Thanks for everything (the reply is like talking to a celeb/hero)! Keep up the awesome work, I foolishly blew my tech college fund on auto yrs ago - I need you!
What amps are you running when welding those straight edge blades ?
48
You would never guess where I found the answer !
Mór one step for3D print!
Do you think you could weld Harley-Davidson cylinder to a Harley Davidson head with that welder I've got one that has been handed down to me by somebody I care for I'm trying to keep it all together
I would say the welder is pretty much as capable as anything else available. Some have advanced waveforms and other features but it still mostly depends on the person.
That's what I do
How come the backside of the razor blades aren't sugaring?
Aluminum backing with a groove helps prevent sugaring
@@weldingtipsandtricks awesome thanks!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍
Nice. But i have many years ago welded real razer blade's together with a Lincon 300
I did that with my Miller Tigrunner 250, but it was fusion... no filler needed.
Whats the actual amp draw at the wall?
I haven't checked actual amp draw yet but spec sheet is here weldmongerstore.com/collections/primeweld/products/primeweld-tig325x-complete-package-ac-dc-tig-welder-with-foot-pedal-maxcool-3000-water-cooler-water-cooled-ck-20-style-torch-water-cooled-dinse-connector
I believe the spec number to use is "Max Rated (I1eff) Amps" and that's 35.7 amps for TIG at 220 volts for this welder. Also should apply to the minimum size of circuit breaker to use. So nominally a 40 amp service. The average draw of the welder will usually be way below that of course. The spec would mean #8 awg conductors in an extension cord. Not that I'm recommending it, but two #12 awg wires in parallel is about equivalent to #9 and that's about 35 amps. I did some numbers a while back and I think I figured the voltage drop from a #9 awg equivalent extension cord was no problem at least to a length of 50 ft.
You haven’t reviewed any Fronius Machines have you? I can’t remember if you have. Miller Dynasty? Or Fronius iWave 230i AC/DC? No wire feed either but the iWave 300i AC/DC does, or get a separate Machine like the TPS 270i C PULSE for GMAW/FCAW. I don’t know if Fronius has anything like the Miller Dynasty 300 Multiprocess TIGRunner or on the cheaper side, ESAB Rebel 205ic ac/dc Multiprocess Machines. The other Machine I’m interested in is the CK MT200-AC/DC, but again it doesn’t have GTAW/FCAW either. But I’d have to get separate systems for some others as well to get _every_ process so that point is kind of moot. If anyone else has Fronius experience I’m all ears.
no fronius yet. I do have a miller dynasty 280 multi process but have only done tig and stick with it so far. I have at least 20 videos using the CK mt200 ac/dc and its definitely a good machine. Esab rebel 205 ac dc is just ok in my opinion but at least it will do all the processes.
@@weldingtipsandtricks Hopefully Fronius wakes up and sends you some stuff to review. They’ve sent machines to people with less of a following than you. I’m definitely a Miller person, but I’d like to try one of the machines from Europe. It looks like all of the settings to control exactly how your Weld Puddle looks, and acts is quite impressive. The only thing I’m worried about is the European style Torch. I like the Round Handle Torches from CK. There isn’t anything a CK Torch can’t do. With the Fronius Machine if you have their Vizor Connect Auto-darkening Helmet it connects via BT to the Machine and you won’t get failure to darken in out of position/low amperage welds that can be difficult on Auto Helmets. The Machine will initiate your Lense. It isn’t a set darkness either, as you go up or down in Amperage, the Helmet will darken or lighten so you always have the best view of your Puddle.
I would probably be all Fronius if I could afford it. They are amazing. I have their Accupocket battery-powered welder and to say it's a game-changer is an understatement. It has allowed me to do many jobs that would have otherwise been impossible.
@@weldingtipsandtricks fronius tig is one of the best tig welder there is. the CK mt200 is a kind of a scam. it's good but it's just rebranded analog Jasic tig welder at 4 time the price of the original. the best welder hardly test in US is from Germany and the Japan : Lorch, EWM, OTC, Panasonic. two of them make AC mig welders. CK did not turn into manufactoring welder, the just get it from the chinese factory with a different color and painting scheme, and very minor change.
@@dumpsterdave3710 How? it only lasts for 15 minuts at max current.
"unboxings" are quite nearly the dumbest thing added to life in the last couple of decades. How on EARTH did we survive without them. Hey lookie I got something new that you don't have and now you can lookit me lookit it! Bless your heart.
I was under the impression that the 325 fan (at any Db) comes on when required and isn't hardwired into the switch as the 225 is (always on). I don't expect to need big amps, but want the capacity, the "overhead" in reserve (and also the lower bottom numbers for thin metal).
Fan does not initially come on when the machine turns on but in my case, I have a water cooler that comes on and runs continually. The fan comes on after welding for a bit and runs for quite a while before kicking off. Once the fan comes on it runs for quite a while before cutting off. I have had several machines that did the same and some were louder ...some were not quite a loud as the 325.
Jody so what your saying is the water cooler that you have plugged into the 325 kicks on immediately when the machine is turned on and not on demand like a Miller? @@weldingtipsandtricks
@@petekossaras1830 yep
Thanks, not a deal breaker, I have a 25 year old Dynasty 300DX that came in without the outlet on the back so I had my electrician wire one in on mine so when I turn it on my coolmate 4 turns on as well, when welding using AC I use ear plugs anyways. :)@@weldingtipsandtricks
well here's a machine that they claim works maybe you could try it shed some light on it because apparently at 220 V the thing doesn't even spark at all when arc welding and it's only scratch start tig also
