Fantastic video as always. Best arc shots on the Web as they say!
We only use TIG on the root pass when working on our steam lines. So carbon seamless API pipe, 7018 fill and cap.
So the AC function only really comes into play when working on home projects, cars and boats for example.
Your videos on AC tig have really become a "go to" for advice and an inspiration . And of course your talented colleagues.
    Best regards from Belfast.

Great video, good accurate explanation. I've observed this on my learnings which created "click" moments and help progress to that "next" level in understanding what occurs before your eyes as a aluminium tig welder. While production welding, I found that a foot pedal set up made things easier being able to control the heat, rather than chasing. if you know what i mean?

I religiously watch your videos and all the tips and tricks you gave is what made me to take brother I am today and also too I've noticed that you tested some machines and they've all been high-end machines except for the ahp. Me I got a primeweld Tig 225x and I was wondering if you would get one and give it a try and run it through the paces and see what your opinion is upon it. I've added the max cool 3000 water cooler to mine and it's gave it 100% duty cycle at 225 amps the machine is a great machine in my eyes but it is my first TIG welder and I've had it for 2 years now. I'd like to see you get one in your hands put it through the paces and see what your opinion is for a TIG welder under $1,000 and it has a lot of features like the Miller.

If Brad Goodman's tig welding video on aluminum is one of the best videos you've ever seen then my question is why should people be learning from you on how to tig weld aluminum ? Lol JK! your videos are very instructional as well and I didn't know of Brad Goodman 20 yrs ago when I started watching your videos.

@@mojomafia1 no problemo Brad your welcome, I definitely liked your video as well and yeah it was very cool for Jody to have you as a guest on his RUclips channel. I used to weld aluminum for a company building aluminum & steel signal houses for the railroad and was able to do a fair amount on aluminum mig and tig welding on the aluminum houses but I don't work for that company anymore. Anyways long story short acquiring knowledge and skill in different ways to weld things sure is a nice road to travel and the journey in doing it sure is helpful especially when you gain appreciation in become more patience in all types of welding applications. Tig welding is definitely something that you really want to take your time with getting to know and once a person learns it really well they can really lay down some very slick looking deeply penetrated weld beads.

Kinda related , my question for you is : what 200 amp inverter AC/DC Tig machine do you recommend, or top choices.
I ask because I'm using a AHP 203xi and I have a small job welding some brackets of 1/4 aluminum with a 1/2 tab about 2 inches high and I have to preheat work piece . The main issue is heat from torch and hose. I get about 5 mins in and every is roasting. Is this from an inferior machine or am I just maxing it out? I'm using #5 ceramic gas lens, 1/8 inch tungsten with 45° bevel and I'm running 200 amps AC , 200 on frequency and 30 % cleaning 100% argon at 12 cfph.
Will other machines such as Everlast , Miller or other popular Ac Tig machines have the same issues at 200 amps?
I know a cooler is an option, but I rarely weld that thick of aluminum.
Thank you and love the videos and tig finger
    More like tig finger saver

I am wondering how you would handle tiny corners that are diffucult to weld cause of other parts that are in the way. I pull out my tungsten some more and get a bigger cup. Scenario happens often with tiny stuff when 1,6 tungsten is needed (round tip)

    • @weldingtipsandtricks
      @weldingtipsandtricks  2 года назад +4

I usually do the same. I would usually rather use a bigger cup with longer extension than use a micro torch. furick cups like ceramic fupa12 that have extra diffuser screens are not necessarily recommended for AC welding but definitely do work in a pinch with a long stickout

    Newbie here :
I'm welding 16/10 (1.6mm, 0.063in) 5754 alu and for the life of me I cannot get the butt welds to get a proper fusion . Under the joint you can see the dull grey metal sagging but with a clear separation where the 2 pieces meet. And once I grind the weld, there it is , a hair line where the 2 parts meet.
I tried keeping the torch on one spot for long and then move slowly but ... Nope. It's like both parts want only to melt each separately and never mix. Even with the filler metal, they'll mix inside it (on the surface) but under that they're still segregated.
    What is happening..?
    It's an industrial 400A tig, using 1mm (3/64") zircon tungsten , 70-30 balance, 32 to 37 amp , 'bout 12-13cfh, can't tweak hz.

Im still relatively new to tig. This is the most asked and least answered question I think i've found. For aluminum I've tried 2% Ceriated (grey), Pure (green), E3 (purple), LayZr (chartreuse) and 2% thoriated (Blue). The only thing I can truly say is that no one agrees, it'll come down to personal preference. Get a few colors and experiment. So far I think I've had best luck with 2% Ceriated (grey) but the E3 and laYZr both work pretty well...for me
