You guys are cracking me up with the comments!!! Thank for making me laugh and have fun!
just confirmed you said confirm 2 times :)
I unsubscribed because you wrote "Thank" instead of "Thanks"!
;)
Sounds like you had a bad week when you put this one out! Keep on being awesome and know that your haters just are the worst. Have fun!
I just realized that your "safety" glasses look like Darth Vader's TIE Fighter in Star Wars A New Hope :)
"...a whole generation of kids out there who are going to be completely...FESTOOL!" - The F Word.
+Jay Bates hahaha!!
My 2- 1/2 year old son watched this with me and at the end of the video he looked at me and in a matter-of-fact manner told me "He's just havin fun! I'm havin fun too!"
Well that just made my day!
Too much fun. Unsubscribed.
So, the guy with 11,000+ subscribers unsubscribed from the guy with the 171,000+ subscriber. Good plan.
+Bobby Kurczewski yikes, sarcasm is hard!
Was it sarcasm? So hard to tell on the internet. I try to use /sarcasm tags.
Glad to know it was sarcasm. I think we just become BFFs. ;) lol
I have no subscribers and I'm unsubscribing because I've waiting on a real project. Paul Sellers puts planes face down on his bench and tells you why he does it. I watch to be informed and get good ideas. Entertainment is a side effect. Great example AvE; very technical and funny as hell.
I'm also tired of being asked for money every time I watch. Support me on Partion. Give me money and I'll print your name in a book. Go buy some more $1000+ tools to make a cutting board and I'll spend my time somewhere else where I can learn something.
god riddance to ya, whiner.
I'm no professional or anything, but I don't think this plane will fly without wings...
Lol. You win, sir.
don't worry, he IS JUST HAVING FUN
Your reckless abandon to the tried and true art of plane making tradition in crafting a tool that you made for your own use sickens me. Having fun?! No sir.
I've got to go lap my soles....
Putting the FU in fun! I love wooden hand planes!
Coconut Palm planes, brass handle chisels, gummy bear axes!! All this fun and inspiration is going to break the internet.
/joke font for anyone who does not realize I am heaping praise on David, Dustin, Jimmy, and Peter/
This just made my night :)

There seems to be a lot of anger in this video for someone who's just having fun.
I did 23 years in the Navy with 9 deployments and I KNOW FUN!!! This is fun, David. It beats sitting in the desert type of fun hands down.
You know what's not fun? Watching your video on my lunch break then having to go back to work and not to the shop. Great vid, always wondered how hard those were to make.
When he said "Terminalogy" I was done. I immediately turned the video off and went and cried with my cats in the crawl space.
Great idea for a safe place thanks.
I like to wedge myself right up against the tightest space in the crawlspace so my chest just barely has enough clearance to choke in air. Then when I'm near passing out I slump down fall to the side and wake up with my cats licking my face - usually I forget about whatever triggered me in the first place.
Safe spaces, what have we become?
There there, Whiskeylung. There, there.
Do you keep your cats in the crawl space?
I love it David! Its all about having fun. If your not having fun get out of the dam shop and find something else to do. Keep up the great work!
I know this video is nine months old, however, thank you, thank you, thank you. I was very excited to see you acknowledge that building a plane from coconut palm is about having fun rather than about showing us what we should do. Too many RUclips woodworkers present themselves as experts while giving bad information. You repeated that you are having fun instead of showing everyone the end-all be-all only way to make a plane. The fact is, if you wanted to know how we thought you should do it, you would ask us! So, keep up the good work!
As someone who lives in South Florida where palm trunks are literally everywhere, I really appreciate people finding use out of palm "wood."
I felt so guilty about not having fun that I became a Patreon supporter. Now I'm having more fun than ever and life is good!
I just got the notification! Thanks so much Peter!!
Oh man! I enjoyed this so much. How many times I have been told in the comments by some "expert" what I did wrong, or how stupid my idea is. My favorite comment ever was "you can't make skateboards because you're some old dude. Leave it to the pros who actually skate." Like the pros aren't some old executives in a board room. LOL!
I doubt they sit in a room made of skateboards.
I love that you're not afraid to call out those who are overly concerned with the minor details. Very much in support of your attitude in this video. I mean it. Keep it coming. P.S. This video was a lot of fun.
I did not have fun.
so I rewatched the video and I missed that you said fun an extra time and I had fun.
That thing turned out beautiful! Love the way that wood looks! I'm going to add this to my list of things to make. You made it look pretty easy.
Dave! This video was more than just fun! I love your videos! we just moved into a new house, and when I was cleaning the garage out and setting up my woodshop I found an old plane with a broken body but a good iron. I wasn't sure what to do with it or how I might go about fixing it. You have shown me the answer! I'm going to make a wood plane and use the old iron! Thanks brother! Keep up the good work, stay positive, have have fun and make stuff!
So glad to see that you use affordable and perfectly serviceable Harbor Freight clamps. I tip my hat to you, budget minded sir.
I'm not sure about anyone else, but I certainly had fun watching that...
Your like the Bob Ross of woodworking. "this might not be right, but thats ok. We're just having some fun, lets make a happy little planer, look how happy that is. Dosnt it look like fun?"
I don't know about you guys but I'm having fun.
Seeing the slices taken out of your microjig makes me feel better about the slice I took out of mine a week or two ago.
The having fun monologue in the fifth minute had a very Bob Ross vibe to it.
Love the video cause it's just having fun and yet built something useful
I have never had this much fun. I feel so alive
Really easy way to achieve a block plane, and precise explanation as well. I love that wood, seems really hard. I almost forgot to say I had fun! Thanks for share David.
Like Bob's pudding gun, you guys used to have awesome channels where you had fun, now you guys are all about business!
HAHA! I love this David! You're awesome!!!
Thank you for sharing these videos with us! This is super late, but I just started using planes for some "not for profit" projects, and was wondering how hard it is to make these! Thanks again!
MOM!! Uncle Dave is having fun on the internet again!
I'm sorry to say that I didn't have fun........I had a blast! Thank you for your unique videos.
Man, I really like watching your videos, because you make it look doable, of course I can rely on my knowledge on woodworking (I've studied four years in a major university here in Brazil in this area) but even though your projects are easy to understand and to improve according to the crafter's wish.
Question for you, David:
Are we just having fun?
😂
I wish I could thumbs-up this video multiple times. Once for each "having fun" said in the video.
really great project you made the block plane look simple to make and fun to make for a novice like me.
Obviously you had a lot of FUN making this video
Actually made my first block plane today. Thanks for inspiration. Fun little project.
New channel name " Make Something Fun "
or Make Fun :P
or Fun :D
A nice simple plane video. I think something this simple everyone should make, and get it to work and cut. Then use it a lot, see what doesn't work, or what they could make better, and then do it again.
I like it when David has a heckin fun time
See, this is what I was looking for. More natural videos and having fun while being awesome. +10!
That looks a lot easier than I thought it would be. I will be making one for sure. You know why, it looks FUN.
Ha good to see you having so much fun David
Nice plane, and I was having FUN. thanks for having fun.
I made a picture frame out of this palm wood. It's really splitting a lot, but it's beautiful to see the grain on the final product 👍. Nice project David
I'm having fun watching, and taking notes. Thanks for the video.
I just had fun, hearing you saying "We're Just Having Fun!". hahaha, great work! Greetings from Argentina
Half way through this video, I found that I was having fun!
Have Fun Sir.... They are gonna talk but I bet they have already started ordering their own piece of coconut palm lol
I think "Hey, we're just having fun!" is the woodworking equivalent of "Don't taze me bro!"
So.... The real question is..... did you have fun?!? Lol! Great.... FUN... video!
Are we having fun yet? I love the attitude toward woodworking. You don't always have to take things so seriously to make something beautiful. Makes me feel better about the stuff I'm doing cause I don't always know what I'm doing, but I just like to find ways to make it work.
Careful. Having fun around tools can be dangerous!
Thanks for great videos, and a good laugh! And great to see the DW T-shirt is still around.
Thanks for the FUN video David!
Woodworkers too just wanna have fun ! Thanks David, I was having a shitty day, I'll take off my troll mask for now.
I had lots of fun
DUDE!!! I had FUN! Hell Yeah! FUN!!!!!
I didn't have any fun because I was watching you have all the fun. I need to have more fun though. lol loved the video though!
I have read most of the comments to realise there wasn't one troll comment, Job Done I would say !! Great video and has inspired me to do the same, Thanks David, I had fun too.
Thanks for this video, it’s just what I needed to have some fun
I watched this video... and I had fun. You can't tell me not to have fun!
Oh my god, all those rules broken... and it still works! Great job David.
I was having so much fun and then the video ended. Well, I guess I just have to wait for the next video
I'm just having fun listening to you say we're having fun ha hahahah
This one is one of my favorites. Thanks !
Oh yeah, that plane looks beautiful!
Dude, just have some fun.... LOVE THIS!!!
Awesome, going to try and make one of these.
David. I'm not the type that usually comments, because I'm too lazy and assume someone else has already said what I wanted to anyway... I am a big fan, a fan of MakingItpodcast, and I absolutely loved your Rockler ad. You've got a great sense of humor and I always thought you should let it out more in your videos. I totally get being "safe", especially with younger viewers, but you clearly can still be hilarious and all ages appropriate. I thought your bamboo comment to yourself was really well executed. This video, also fantastic. Keep up the good work. I'm having fun.
Right on!! Thank you!!
Awesome vid mate.
Going to use the same principles to make a jointer plane.
I once looked at a drawing video from a snarky old Asian gent who kept on saying: "Have fun!"
"If people criticise your work- or you, yourself- just keep saying to yourself that you're not done yet- and lighten up. You're gonna die anyway so why worry?"
Another quip after drawing a dodgy line: "I'm an artist- I'm not done yet.." :)
"You can always say- "I'm not done yet.. And have fun! You're gonna die anyway."
That was such a great, humorous video with pearls of wisdom from a cool and laid back old guy! :)
He defied convention though and the constant self-criticsim, straight-line, perfect-curve syndrome people suffer from when drawing, yet taught people a lot stuff in just that one video- and his drawings were extremely good.
Anyway- I enjoyed this vid!
Holy crap I had a lot of fun watching this! FUN
Old video, but one of my favorites. My channel has gained a little bit of ground and I can say, I get it. I’ve gotten those “don’t use that wood” comments, “don’t use that finish” comments, and I’m no professional, so the sole purpose in my projects is to just have some fun.
Now that was F-U-N and very useful. Thanks David.
What a cool project David.
When you have fun you become more creative!
I love how you never stop talking about having fun lol ;)
Have some fun, it my birthday.... love you man!
That is one of the nicest looking block planes i have ever seen! Nice work.
the more he says "we are just haveing fun" you can hear the fun drain away
How dare you make me have all this fun! I subscribe to this channel so that I may one day make something! But you SR! Are now forcing me to have all this fun in the process!?!? Well thanks a lot.
Thank you for taking the mystery and fear out of making a plane. I have had several plane irons for years and been afraid to make one.
This is far and away my favorite and most "fun" video yet
More fun than a woodworker should have, thanks
I'm not sure you had enough fun making this video :P
On the other hand, the plane looks awesome!
I was stationed on Guam for 8 years, and made lots of cool stuff from coconut palm. It was FUN...
Well, That was a lot of fun! nice build! Its good to see makers push back on the traditionalist trolls. There's more than one way to anything.
You are hands down my favorite RUclips presenter and there are some great ones out there. Keep up the great work, bro!
Oh man! Right on, thanks Brandon!
I'm having fun watching all the fun!
MAN! OH MAN! THIS WAS FUN!
David looks like a bald Jimmy Diresta. I mean that wit all love.
Yes! The Make Something Yellow Glue made a cameo. Also, with all the FUN you're having in this video, it is probably going to end up as some drinking game. Every time David says "We're just having FUN" take a shot. Look at all those huge roundovers though... thought they were played... Roman Ogees from now on, because we're just having FUN! (Shot # 45)
I was watching at 2x and when I got to 0:54 I about fell out of my chair. Hilarious!!!!
Reminds me of something my father said on a family trip once. "We're going to do this as a family and we're going to have fun, damnit!"
Just here to have fun! Thanks David! @paul sellers always sets his planes done on the blade as well so we are in good company.
Man, you need to relax a little and have fun. Great video and I thought it was hilarious!
I have one question for you David: did you have fun?
great video!
great build, looks like you're having fun
I am here to confirm that fun was had. Thanks for the great vidya.
I had a lot of fun watching this video.. Cause we are just having fun.
