Another thing to look for: Rear main seal leaking (where the engine meets the trans) is will leak there. Also the oil pan gasket itself. you can see the sweat around it in the video on the 24v.
Yeah, only other issue that I can recall that you didn’t mention is the APPS sensor. A lot of folks, when that sensor goes bad, their truck will not keep running or it will surge and rev randomly without any pedal input. Replace it with a Timbo APPS
The KDP is a 12 valve issue I believe, not a 24 valve issue. Edit: I was incorrect, sort of. The KDP is a common issue in the 12 valves and a less likely but still possible problem in the 24 valve Cummins.
Took mine out around 100ths to 120ths miles. Pin was about halfway out. Definitely want to know for sure that its been removed or fixed into place. Personally i would just remove it
I had 2 problems with an high mileage 24v 2gen, (vp44) bad check valve draining the fuel lines and air pockets came out while driving on the road. The other was a leaking front main with a worn out speedy sleeve which replacement needs measured to fit seal not oem.
Great video from A to Z only making a point a bout this bad engine block was made in Brazil my friend but great video over all thanks for this complete info l love Cummins especially 12v👍😎you don't have diesel money put petroleum she will runn no problem😁
24v with the vp44s the ecm likes to go out on them as well. Not as far as running the engine. But controlling the transfer pump. Turn key on you should hear the transfer pump turn on for around 10 to 15 seconds. If it dont or runs for about 2 seconds it’s not working right. Also you can check it by bumping the starter from key switch and listen for the transfer pump. 20 or 30 seconds I believe is what it’s supposed to run for. Have had lost fail that test including mine. Good video tho overall!
I just bought a 01 24 valve 6spd manual 254k on engine runs super strong, but when you get it up to running temperature ever so often, it stalls out. I'm gonna do a filter change on all filters and do a fresh oil change and start there. What are your thoughts if not stopped up filter?
Well first thing is are you getting any engine codes? If no, do you get any dead pedal from the throttle.? Could be the transfer pump. Or lift pump is what they technically call them. Or the vp44 could be going out on you. Those have to have a good steady flow of fuel for the vp44 computer to keep it cool. Plugged fuel filter can and will mess them up. As well as a transfer pump starting to fail. Cam and crank sensor could also be given you fits. A fuel pressure gage is handy for seeing what’s going on. Hopefully this helps you out! Good luck with it! Amazing trucks!
Im looking at getting a daily driver second gen down in SC so rust isn't much of an issue just price and drivetrain..if it's got new front end parts and injectors/trans work is 225k to 300k ok for a daily?
Yea man! I would check for blow by to make sure the motor is still good. Also dont pay too much. Don't buy a shiny turd though. Ask for paperwork proof on any major work.
A note everyone should take is, DO NOT BUY FROM A USE CAR DEALERSHIP. Its always a scam , no exceptions. Unless your cool with giving away a few thousand dollar for free then by all means
Yeah, but it's tough to just buy the engine these day, seem people all know what the have these days. I'm still looking on Facebook market for a old truck at $1,500 maybe $2k I can take the engine and scrap the truck
@@oscarbear7498 yes it’s true everyone knows what they have and it’s hard to get a good deal anymore. Sucks. Used to be able to buy nice clean old pickups from original owners for like 7k now they’re detailing the hell out of them and selling them for 20-30k lol
The drivetrain part starts at 9:55
Thanks for watching! leave any helpful comments OR questions down below!
15:57 There were so many parts I laughed and wanted to post but this one takes it. great review man.
😂😂😂😂🙏 agreed
10:45 need to plug the crankcase vent to check blow by on 12v
Best commentary lol "all that bullshit" "pretty shit not gonna lie" lmao he talks like me not one of them fake RUclips personalities
Very solid video got to all the points without taking longer than it should

Thank you Andy! I never experienced sny trouble with the APPS sensor. Is it a pretty quick fix?
Just got a 98 12v and appreciate the knowledge
Congrats man! 98 12v are a lucky find.
53 block came from Brazil.Mexico blocks are great
I already have a 5-speed long bed 12 valve, but now I just found another one. That's why I'm here haha
Haha thanks for stopping by man! Also congrats on the find!

Correct! I must have messed that up. I've personally seen more 98.5-00 with kdp issues

I’m buying a 2nd gen dodge dually single cab for 150 with a busted trans it’s been sitting for some time so this vid is perfect
not too bad!!
Looking at a 97 12v amazing vid boss, thanks

He should be a sales man 🤣hood info lol
Useful video lots of info
Thank you!!
Thanks man good video ! You should do a video comparing powerstrok and duramax to the Cummins and what's better or worse on each one
Thanks for the support Frank! I'll see what i can get together! First i gotta find a dmax owner! 😭😂
One other thing is the vacuum lines for the 4x4 actuator, they tend to crack and loose vacuum causing 4x4 not to work
This was funny but very informative. Thank you
Thanks Al!
Awesome job

Still ❤️ MY CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL 6 SPEED 3500 DUALLY
Great vid thanks for the info
Hello how much you thing I should buy one for? Like what’s the max you would spend to buy one? Thank you in advance.
tbh man the market fluctuates based on where you live. the pandemic has drove prices up for where im at
The kdp only happened commonly in the 12v not so much the 24v
What about the tv cable? On the 24v
My 2500 has a Dana 80 rear

i got a 1998 12v short bed with no rear doors, i heard this are rare? called club cab or somn ? how much are these worth it got 153k miles !
I thought the kdp was on the 12 valve not the 24 valve
Some of my friend say I/m using the F.... too often, I know understand what they mean, lollll. Good video anyway

They have problems and shitty design flaws, but they’re pretty solid for the most part compared to trucks nowadays.
I would put a piece of hose over those rub spots, plastic is crap.
2nd gens are the best
So pretty much the whole pickup is a piece of shit except the engine lol

They were fun to buy 12 years ago but they are just too old now man.
Dudes damn annoying - but good info
hell you aint lying
A rare honest jest of criticism says a lot about someone's character.
Couldnt make it through the whole video , dudes a clown … wish these cats would stick to ricers
