Sam, I admire your self driven obligation to keep these trucks on the road. Do not ever be discouraged when deciding to upload 2nd gen dodge, any dodge cummins truck content. We have a very similar passion for these trucks. Im in the east in alabama but saving for a LRG NV5600 rebuild. I have a ext cab 02 24v HO NV56 4x4 drw 4wheel disc truck with almost 400,000 miles on the original drive train. Bought it during peak covid pricing from a chevy dealer in muscle shoals alabama w/ 364,xxx miles and ALL original down to the hoses, hydroboost, dealer relocated block fuel pump and original vp44.... Truck was a disaster operation wise but it was all there and all trying to function. I have resealed most of the engine and put clutch/hydraulics/flywheel, rear main, engine seals, hydro boost, vacuum pump, ps hoses and pump, ac compressor, belt drive accessories, brakes, rotors...and who knows what other small wear and tear stuff. But i wanted to say the HX35W turbo my truck has factory is very impressive for a stock 2nd gen. Ive driven a 01 auto with the hy turbo like yours and it was such a gutless turd i dont comprehend how they ever sold an automatic late 2nd gen. Im thinking about making a few videos and seeing if any interest in the history of my rigs. I buy to keep and dont have but the 1 aforementioned cummins so far but i have 5 other gas 2nd gen dodges i want to restore and show progress on. Look forward to more of your dodge content. Thank you so much
I really like the 01 Sport, and especially with that trans in it! Only a dually would be cooler! I'm 72 now and partly disabled, so there is no more building trucks for me. If I found one, I'd put a bed rug and matching glass cap, so I could use it to haul guitars to and from guitar shows. 8) Shhh, don't tell my Silverado!! LOL 8) Peace --gary
Just bought a 96 Dually 12v back in August. Living in Wisconsin, this is a Montana truck- zero rust. Will keep this gem in the garage throughout winter. Cloth intact, no dashboard cracks, AC functional. Love, love, love this truck. Only 9k at 240k miles.
I’ve finally refreshed my 00 2nd gen ram 2500 Cummins , only Thing I haven’t had to do was the Trans and please diesel gods give me some more time on that one 😂 215k on her and I love her ❤
I don’t know I love all of them I can’t really decide I’m 14 and have always had a love for 2gens my dad had one and I’m saving for 1995 12v that a guy is holding onto for me . I love your work and I love to watch your content. I hope one day I can do the same thing .
You could still get a non quad cab extended cab through 2001. The quad cab was always an option. It’s not common but they are around. I’ve seen quite a few for sale on marketplace. I also remember seeing them new on the lot. My mom was the dealership comptroller for our local Dodge dealer my whole childhood through the early 2000’s.
Between the 3 “holy grail” trucks you got, my fave would have to be the ‘01 24 valve truck. One thing I’m dying to know about your grandmother’s truck is this- did you ever find out what was causing the 24v engine you had put in it initially to keep malfunctioning? If not, I’d love to see you do a teardown of that engine and see if you find out that way
Got my 95 with 162k for 6400 unmolested and no dents. That was a few years before covid craziness though. I'll never sell it. Doubled the miles and did a lot of work with it across several states. Still running strong.
5 days ago a 1994 dodge 2500 went for $12k Having 82k miles on it mint condition lol. Dude had it up for 4 months. Market is still dropping 🫳 because of election. Everyone is scared, no one us buying so prices prices keep dropping
I bought a 2000 ram 2500 with the 24v Cummins in it ,it’s got a built transmission and new fuel system and stage 2 injectors for $2000 in August it was really well taken care of by its main owner and the one of my buddy’s bought it in may and hit a moose with it in July and it sat till I bought it I fixed it up and I’m 17 so I went to the DMV to go register and title it and not even 5 minutes after we got it registered some lay t boned the bed the truck is from Minnesota so it’s rusty but I’m still going to fix it I’ve got the parts I just need to put it all together
The 12 valve is the one that everyone wants but I prefer the 24v. I have a 2001.5 H.O. with a 6 speed, Dana 80 rear end and rear disc brakes hydro boosted. I put in a FASS lift pump and a fuel pressure gauge, 275 HP injectors. Bought it new, later 2nd gen trucks have things that earlier ones don't.
Like the guy above me said, the 12 valve is sought after because of it's legendary reliability. The mechanical fuel system also allows it to run on waste oils like old engine oil, transmission fluid, vegetable oil, and many others. The engine itself literally cannot have electrical failures because it doesn't have a computer, it doesn't have an electric fuel pump or electronic injectors, no cam sensor, no crank sensor, no mass airflow sensor, no manifold pressure sensor, no O2 sensors ect. If you keep them stock (or close to stock) and change the oil and filters regularly, the engine WILL last a very, very long time. Driving one on a long trip gives you great piece of mind too. You just know it's not going to break down and leave you stranded. Probably ever. This isn't a dig at the 24 valve Cummins though, they're great too. But nothing compares to the reliability of those 12 valves.
Im looking in spring to buy an 05 ish 3500 g56 4x4 crew cab long bed dually from south with hopefully less than 180k. My f350 7.3ps blew up on me coming home from vacation with tractor. She got me home on 7. Im looking into getting a 14ft ish camper and get a 40ft gooseneck and stack camper on gooseneck using tractor to go to tractor show 1 trip. Im guessing trl load be 17-19k
@VBELTandSON 315K miles, dually, with that manual trans. Just cannot find another one like it, I would have to believe. She's working hard hauling my bird dogs all around the country. How do I attach a photo?
The 01 works for me with grandchildren and car seats. I'm 60 years old and still hauling grandbabies around. All nice trucks, Grandma's truck is a "Keeper".
I've got a 2002 4x4 dually nv5600 extended cab with 83,000 miles. I dont really use it. How much do you think it might be worth? No rust, just dents on the bed. It used to belong to a company.
My dad has a 2002 2500 Cummins extended cab long bed 6 speed manual with 97,000 miles. Problem is it’s been mostly sitting since 2012 or so. He mentioned getting rid of it the other day. Should I try to take it off his hands?or would it need a lot of work? It has barley towed and was a commuter
How many miles on a used manual transmission would you consider buying? I found a g56 with around 300k miles on it for 3,500 bucks. I wasn't sure about it. I'm stuck between the g56 and nv5600 for a swap.
@@alexbland7890 if it was abused it should be solid. The trans in the grey truck has 300 on it. Solid trans still. Can’t go wrong with either but I like g56. Might offer the person 2700 for the high mile unit that be a deal
the market in general is really low right now. not even desirable vehicles are safe right now. prices will be back up in a year or 2 (if Donald comes back)
I've got a '98 Dually short cab, 12V with a long bed. Love this truck but this dash...is trash. Where can we find decent parts for these old beauties? Like you, It's a labor of love to keep them rollin'. I'm thinking at 500K, having an in-frame done and a manual swap while I'm at it. She's pretty much my daily driver and can STILL pull a freight train. Hard to believe no one has made an aftermarket dash assembly that is NOT plastic. Swear I saw one on FB that was made of fiberglass, but he was out of them. So where do YOU source your parts?

I like the 98 12 valve, that truck is put together perfectly and is soooo clean
the one pro of the earlier cabs is they seem much stronger, and there is no potential of rattling or noises compared to the ones with the doors
Same thing happening here in British Columbia. 2nd gen prices are down significantly.
The 01 sport is my dream second gen.
