@@frieda1368 Thanks. It's been a little over a year. When I first started I was actually taking in around 50 to 60 grams of carbs. I've tried Atkins before and lost weight too fast. I was dizzy all the time and I ended up gaining all the weight back... and some. Not to mention that I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. So when I started doing Keto, I started off slow and kept my carbs between 50 and 60. It was around December when I started slowly cutting them down towards the 25 to 30 mark. I'm a little scared to go lower because I remember the dizziness I experienced before. I still have a long way to go but its nice to wake up and feel good everyday.

People get too hooked on #'s... Net carbs, ketones, their weight .. then they get frustrated (or worse) and give up. Then "experts" report "Keto is too hard/too limited to be sustained", which is unfortunate. For health reasons, I think keto is really great.

And we beat ourselves up to no end for it! I just know what I have to do, tell myself I'm stronger than I think to help fight the craving, BUT I don't beat myself up anymore if I give in. I now have a goal of 5lbs a month & if I meet it I give myself a treat or 2 then I get right back on track. I don't count, don't check ketones. I have lost 20 so far.

My teenage son asked me to take him to get fastfood. I had a coupon that gave us extra burgers. I was totally trying to justify to myself eating one of the burgers with a bun. Thankfully, I had been watching this video right before we left, and I started watching it again as I was about to eat the burger. Thanks to both of you I made a better choice and got out the lettuce in place of the bun. Best would have been no fast food burger, but they sure smell good!😁 Thanks for saving me from a stupid decision!❤

I really, really love you two. I have been keto-ish and/or full keto for almost two years. I only estimate carbs most of the time. However, at this point I am so glad I seldom feel really hungry and that is the most wonderful feeling I have ever had. I used to feel so hungry I could have eaten anything and everything I could find. That is such an awful feeling, almost obsessed with food. Now I am so in control and that is the best thing about keto. Even if I go off for a day and eat pizza or something like that, I no longer hate myself, and I can go right back to keto again for weeks at a time. Your approach gives me confidence that I am OK with the way I am doing keto. thanks.

I don't trac my macros, not even the Carbs, I don't have the patience for that, like I didn't have the patience to trac my calories when I was doing a normal diet pre keto. When I want to lose weight I restrict myself to just eat all types of meat, eggs, and maybe some avocado. This allows me to lose weight without bothering with counting anything. I keep this up until I get to the weight I want and then go back to normal lazy keto

How much does it cost? I have to eat, but, I hate cooking. Because of severe bloating, vomiting bc of bloating, constipation (all my life starting at birth), and, a recent diagnoses of stage one metastatic breast cancer, I started researching foods that kill cancer, reduces inflammation, and, are nutrient dense. Was also pre-diabetic, so I dropped 20 lbs back 2 years ago, and, blood work was showing improvement with slow wt loss. Stopped taking naproxen for inflammation bc of covid, to keep from damaging my liver/kidneys/all other organs, and, had all my teeth pulled after several years of dealing with them. Been doing dirty Keto since June 1st, I've lost around 40 lbs, not been constipated, have only vomited (bloating), once a month, and, joint pain almost non existent except for back pain. Still trying to get rid of this soft ball size bloat that sits in the RMQ of my abd. most days. New problem? I'm depressed, cause I've been most miserably broke since I started, trying to buy healthier foods, and, switch out my pantry for healthier substitutes, and, such, and, now I need my money to buy clothes that are 2+ sizes smaller. Which is a good thing, lol, but, I hate to be seen in public now. This upcoming month I hope to not have to spend so much money on food. How much does the food from Factor cost? Thanks for your help, and, sharing what you did. May God be with you, amen.

When I first did the Atkins diet, Induction was torture! There was no such notion as net carbs. It was 20 TOTAL carbs per day, which is incredibly difficult and limiting. Net carbs is like freedom after that. But I did it for over a year and lost 98 lbs. But that wasn’t a sustainable WOE for me once I hit goal and bypassed maintenance ☹️ I held most of the weight off, though, until an in-law came for an extended visit and I started cooking all the rice and potato dishes she liked, along with noodles and legumes and a ton of sweets. By the time she finally went home, I had packed on a good 40-ish lbs. Then getting back on track was yet another challenge I wasn’t prepared for.
All of that to say this: We all have days we do better and days we don’t hit the macro mark. As long as I’m losing, be it ever so slowly, I’m fine with dirty keto, lazy keto, squeaky clean keto-whatever. Even on the low end of nutritional ketosis, there will be progress.

I'm not doing all that fussy stuff, I just don't want to obsess about rules because it tends to be motivated from a sense of shame for me and I find it disempowering. But for some people, they really groove on the structure of hardcore keto and like being able to operationalize their progress, and I get that too. So, like you say all the time, we're all different. I'vve been doing time restricted eating for a couple of months (with lc/hp) and the thing I really like about it is, the rules are so flexible. If I drift out of the 6/18 structure, I just adjust it for the next cycle and I'm cruising along again instantly. For me it doesn't create an all or nothing dichotomy. THis is the first winter holiday season ever that I'm not worrying about how many of my 'favourit' carbs I'm going to load. When one of those images pops into my head, I imagine my liver or gut health taking a blow, and the bloom falls off the rose, lol. But having said that, if it seemed worth it I'd go for it and take healing measures in the aftermath. It's just easier if I don't have to. I love the way you both encourage autonomy and self regulation, really the antidote to self-sabotage and shame. ❤‍🩹

Noticed since I've been doing keto but pretty lazy that I don't have the digestive upset I used which is really nice everyday I eat something fermented and it seems to regulate my system better concluding sauerkraut or kimchi. What I really think work is fasting. And reducing my body size I think you could eat anything as long as you fast and reduce the size of your body. There are people who become vegetarian that lose weight get rid of diabetes rid of all kinds of problems as long as they fast and reduce the size of their body I used to call that dieting and losing weight but I don't use those terms anymore. Those terms of too much negative connotation I want a positive connotation to describe what I am doing.

In the beginning I tracked but, after awhile I knew what I was eating. People usually eat the same things. I also knew if this was going to be a way of life for me, I wasn't going to make my own mayo or ranch dressing. This is the first time in my life I have been able to maintain my weight loss. Wish my Dr. had told me about it sooner.

Atkins very first Diet Revolution counted total carbs, not net carbs. He did adjust later; however, when I first did his program it was 20 total carbs…which is low. After a couple weeks, I entered into maintenance and settled at around 60 TOTAL carbs … and I felt great. Family issues caused me get back to the old eating pattern.
Over A year ago, I gave up sugar to get my AC1 level down…all sugars - including all fruits. I lost 40 lbs, which was not a part of my goal. My AC1 dropped and I feel good. I use carb manager to track my intake, but I am not religious about it. I still count total carbs and try to keep around 60 total carbs per day. I don’t bake much, but I have a 90-second breakfast muffin that I use frequently… I worry about the use of sugar alcohols … Carb manager says ‘avoid’ ….
We all need to do what works and leave others alone!

The Atkins diet worked for me when I started it in 1977. I lost 100 lbs and kept it off for 25 years. Then I went into depression (long personal story) and gained it back. I am now doing low carb. Just remember Dr Atkins said everyone has a personal carb level. The firts week you can eat all the meat, eggs and mayo that you want. By checking ketone sticks turning purple you know for sure that you are in ketosis. Now add 5 grams of carbs for 4 days, check to see if you are still in ketosis. If you are, add 5 more grames. You do this unitl the ketone stick quits turning purple. Knock off the last 5 grams and you can eat that and continue to lose weight. My tolerance level was 20 grams. My husband tolerance level as 30 grams. After we lost the weight we only had to eat a low carb diet to keep it off. I have not eaten refined sugar since I was 37 years old. Just as in AA. It works if you work it. You girls do a great job and have given me many new recipes. Even an old dog can learn new tricks. Thanks girls.

20 grams is too difficult for me to stick to. I’ve tried over and over and have failed. This time around I’m just trying to stay low carb in general and not worry about the #. I’ve still lost weight so I’m going to stick to my current plan. We’ll see! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have commented before and said that I never tracked anything. This is the easiest and simplest way of eating I've ever adopted. Today after church I felt like taking myself out for a steak. I went to Chili's. Used to be, when I would go to Chili's, I would eat the entire basket and then some of the tortilla chips with salsa. And then I would get some crazy something-or-other that was super carb-heavy. These days when I do it, I get the 10 oz sirloin that's topped with avocado and pesto aioli. It comes with grilled asparagus. And I order a side of bacon. Lovely meal, with enough protein and fat as one of my two meals per day.

I’ve been keto about 5 or 6 weeks and overall I’ve lost 19 but it’s gone up and down by a couple pounds even still. I am still learning and figuring out the do’s and don’ts and giving myself some grace. I knew going in I was only going to be able to do relaxed or not at all. So far, it has been such an enjoyable adventure! I am having fun with it, watching fun videos (like yours), and learning what works for all this!
For example, once a week my sis and I meet at my mom’s to eat and visit and play games. Obviously I can’t eat like they do anymore though they always try to make the main course keto friendly. I don’t expect them to do the desert (or actually any of it) for me so I make or bring my own. Yesterday I made myself a desert, just a simple chocolate crunch bar of pork rinds and lily’s chocolate with a bit of sweetener. I just made it up so wasn’t sure what to add and turns out I think I used more ingredients than I needed, so net carbs were way higher than they needed to be. Next time I will only use 4 T Lily’s chips, only 1T of powdered Swerve, 20ish drops of liquid stevia, a1T ghee, and NO cocoa powder. I melted all that and mixed with crushed pork rinds and refrigerated the bars. But I thought it was delish! They were impressed with the candy bar. Even more than that, they LOVED the chaffles!!! I normally use your recipe but forgot to take the almond flour so I used more of the crushed pork rinds and no baking powder and they were good! Not as good as yours, granted, but my mom and sis loved them too!
Anywho, I just love doing this, living this lifestyle now, and the most fun to me is trying to find subs to work in place of non-keto foods and meals for our visits! Love eating like I’m a normal person but knowing it’s good for me! Love this learning adventure! Love y’all!

It's five months I'm into Omad "relaxing" keto, I've never tracked my macros, never checked my ketones , I eyeball my dishes too, I'm always for the quality of food, especially about carbs... I've lost 26kg so far (57 lbs) and I'm less than 10 lbs far from my ideal weight, for the last four weeks I didn't loose anything in terms of scale but I've lost a lot in terms of cm (inches) ! The pair of slim fit jeans I've bought last month, well they're already a bit baggy on me, I'm sure I'm another size down even if I weigh basically the same and this is amazing! I think I will get rid off my scale soon, I will trust only my face and body changes from now on 👍

This is so true ladies; I reached my goals 3x in 10 years and gained it all back because maintenance is almost like a whole new game. Achieving that balance - not to be too strict, enjoy, but still watch out if the pants becomes tight, and not to throw in the towel after you cross the line 1 or 2 times is definitely a good advice. The all-or-nothing approach is a sure way to failure it seems. Tough lessons. I'm glad I found your channel as inspiration while I'm restarting my keto lifestyle. 😘

I love the quality and taste of factor, but even their “keto” meals have a lot of carbs. The minimum I’ve seen is 13. So you have to be super mindful of your carb intake the rest of your day. Especially if you are just starting out and want to stay below 20 net carbs for your first few months.

A lot of "keto" labeling is just marketing. Also, it depends on what you consider a meal. Healthy Choice chicken and broccoli alfredo is only 4 net carbs. And there are a couple others like Pesto chicken without many more.

@@hermesten1000 Good point. A lot of companies r jumping on band wagon but might still have 15 carbs in a single $$$ meal. Weird. "Keto" ketchup costs $7.99. Seems it costs an extra $3 for them to leave the sugar or HFCS out. 🤔
I did not realize Health Choice has low carb meals. Will try some. Nice to have fast grocery frozen meal options esp bc I no longer eat out.

@@beverlycharles6534 They have maybe 3...the chicken pesto, the chicken broccoli alfredo, down in the 3 to 6 range, and a chicken veggie stir fry which I think nets out at about 11. …You have helped me lose over 38 pounds , lower my pre diabetic A1C, (and hope to get rid of this diagnosis)…
Also Doc says , I am almost ready to get rid of my blood pressure med, (and already have halved it twice!)
I am almost 70, and walk a lot, ….when before I was not feeling the energy to do that!….
I do not count carbs, but Usually stay away from them… Luckyly,
I never eat sweetners or sugar since my pre diabetes, diagnosis, and now never crave sweet things, also I use greens for filler or for a “ bed” for my proteins and healthy fats/ oils.
My chaffkes are cheese and egg and no filler or pork rinds, with lots of fun seasonings.
I live in a hot weather climate, so salads rock, and fresh caught fish and even smoked fish, from what we catch are pretty awesome..
…Sometimes if I am in a hurry, (or budget stretched), I will open two cans of smoked herring in olive oil… (no carbs) read labels and they are 1dollar for 3.53 Oz ( that’s over 6 ounces!)…and have that on greens or just by itself.

I tried the keto diet all in and reached medium ketosis for 3 months but my body digestive system didn't get on with the low carbs which I got down to between 10-20 net carbs with intermittent fasting. I'm staying with the low carb bit as far as poss but had to lower the fat content too. Portion control is also important to watch! In my case I am allergic and intolerant to may foods which doesn't help. I have no refined sugar in the house and have altered my diet and learnt alot about good fats and bad and carbs. Also am addicted to cheese now 😉

The stress of worrying over a few extra net carbs will pack on the pounds way more than those few carbs themselves. Cortisol and how it influences weight gain is a legit phenomena. Taking time to destress and do breathing exercises every day and not hyper-focussing on the few extra carbs will take anyone's weight-loss farther than sticking exactly to 20 net carbs. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Keeping under 20 carbs a day isn’t too hard for me-the DRAMATIC change in my A1c keeps me honest!🤓Nope; what discourages me is my S-L-O-W to often non-existent weight loss. I lost the first 50 lbs in 14 months and now…glaciers are faster than my weight loss. Between the Metabolic Syndrome and my over-60 body, this just takes time. And I have to try really, really REALLY hard not to be jealous of (or want to bitch-slap!) these people who lose 10-20 lbs in a month LOL! I find my hunger fluctuates all the time regardless. I can go a carb or two over one day and be hardly hungry the next day where I can eat maybe 6 carbs in a day and be starving the moment I wake up the next day OR visa verse. Last time I tried keto I failed because I was so hung up on numbers and how others feel. This time I just eat if I am hungry (but I generally drink something and even perhaps have some salt and wait a few to see if I’m actually hungry or not). If I’m not hungry I try not to eat. Sometimes I do just because it’s meal time but I usually stop after a few bites because I wasn’t hungry so I’m learning to trust myself. I’ve gone to breakfast with friends and not even felt the need to eat. I’ve gone shopping and been ok to not eat until home and everything away. I’ve also learned never to force myself to fast. It doesn’t help me to make myself suffer with hunger.
