Cycling 512 Miles through the Nevada Desert // 10

- Seven months since we set off from Alaska, we find ourselves in the dusty desert valleys of Northern Nevada. It’s a part of the country I’ve always wanted to properly explore and we definitely weren’t disappointed. Huge, expansive desert valleys extending as far as the eye can see, with nothing but a lonely dirt road cutting through right through the middle. I'm a bit desert obsessed and to me it felt a bit like bikepacking heaven!

Thanks to MLD for my beautiful new panniers: mountainlaurel...
I've been loving them, they were designed around the Tumbleweed racks so the fit is rock solid, and they're super light so I barely even notice them while riding!
I edited and published this video from Chihuahua, Mexico - slowly but surely catching up!

About
In July 2022, we set off from the very top of Alaska on our bicycles, with the aim of spending the next few years cycling all the way down to the southern tip of Argentina - the entire length of the Americas. We are definitely not in any rush, and often opt to take the scenic, more remote routes where possible. Neither of us are cycle touring or bikepacking experts, but we are figuring all of that stuff out as we go. If you would like to follow along, please consider subscribing!

Great respect to Daniel from Tumbleweed. Wow! Did he came down all the way from Idaho to bring a Rohloff equipped bike? Wish him and his wife all the best in their business. And of course best video so far. Love the desert. Thanks to both of you.
He originally offered to drive much further to meet us on the Oregon coast! We thought the Tumbleweed meeting would be much more appropriate in the desert though haha. Really great people and we are so fortunate and proud to be representing them
i knew a tumbleweed in berkeley who lived next to me on hearst st
next bike is yours no more trek or speclized

At the end, you really should re-edit all hours together and submit to film festival somewhere. It is absolutely enthralling. Congratulations to Victoria for her courage and determination. I am glad to read you are staying in one place during the heat.
thats a good idea! I'm keeping all the footage safe so I would love to be able to do something like that one day
Tumbleweed is such a grassroots company. Their bikes seem amazing. If I ever do a journey like this, I hope to get one of their bikes.
100%
What you are going through in this episode is EXACTLY why I love and cherish every chance I get to bike pack. There are insane obstacle that must be overcome, and many of them are emotional and in your mind. You know how much water you have, you know how much food, and therefore you know exactly where you need to get to to make it work - yet your body, and spirit are broken and your mind has a moment of clarity and you just focus on the next checkpoint and you get there. To me it's the closest we are ever going to come to traversing the world the way pioneers did, and just roll out into what ever may come - and when I finally get to my destination and look at the totally of it I feel accomplished and humbled.
I love Victoria. Her drive to complete this ride is admirable and her accent is so sweet. I love watching her videos too. Keep going girl, you’ve got this!
Greg & Victoria - I've been following along from the start & finally had to say something. Incredible adventures - such an inspiration. I must say your last few episodes have really hit me in the right spot - inspiring me to dream up my next adventure! I wish you safe journeys and fair weather!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey! I really appreciate how much you both have shared your moments of doubt and pain along the way - - often our stories of travels that we tell or see of others are only the triumphant moments, but there are so many low moments too - and they only make the good ones that much sweeter.
Gotta love the Nevada desert. Kudos to you two for enduring such harsh weather and thanks for the epic videos!
That flashback of Victoria’s old bike was kind of a tear jerker 😂. Great video & thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing this journey.
Really enjoying your journey. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Awesome of Daniel of Tumbleweed. A Prospector will be my next bike purchase.
Great video! After spending over 30 years in private industry as a geologist, I worked as the Fluid Minerals Program Manager for the Nevada Division of Minerals for 12 1/2 years (retired a bit over two years ago), where I was the Nevada state regulator for oil, gas, geothermal, and lithium brines. Through that time, I traveled on all of the roads you showed in the video, as well as throughout Nevada. Nevada has some incredible scenery, especially when you are on the gravel/dirt back-roads that transect the state.
Two Tumbleweeds Cycling. The mounts match the personalities without question. Great episode and thank you for sharing (again)!
Thanks Mark!
Beautiful scenery. Awesome Video ❤
So impressed and jealous of your tenacity, your dedication, your love and attitudes. The quality of your videos are top notch! Thank you so much for sharing.
Great episode, I liked it a lot! And a good music choice as well.
The adventure they are doing is incredible. They will never forget her.
I agree. My worry is, what will he want to do next? lol!
I'm worried about that too! haha
Excellent episode u 2👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I love the transparency of it all. Wow, amazing landscape!!!! Thank you for your time and efforts in sharing this with us!!! Safe travels 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I have to say, i have really fallen in love with Victoria throughout these videos. She always has such a positive character and its so refreshing. I don't know really how to word it but to me, she just embodies what it truly is to be a woman. She just has such a strong and powerful feminine energy. It's so inspiring to watch her push through all of her hard moments and still be so positive and funny. You guys made such a great team and i absolutely love your videos.
Me too.. i am falling hard for her.. lil bit sad cause she is not continuing the journey to argentina..😢
I've loved every video, but this one is my favorite one yet. It really made me want to get back on trail (I'm more of a backpacker than a biker) for a long thru-hike. Seeing you both push through that really tough headwind--especially on a tough period day, well done Victoria--was really inspirational. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Victoria! Orgullosa de ti como mujer. Disfruta la libertad y dale duro!
Wow, that's service!!! Good luck to you man!! Safe Travels too!
Tumbleweed…. You guys just have a costumer. My next purchase x2(wife) belongs to you guys. Well done. Thank you for supporting this guys.🙏
Stunning!
Fantastic episode !!!!
Respect to you both 👍
Thank you Tumbleweed bikes ❤
this is incredible. wishing y’all the absolute best along this immense journey. the way you capture and share this is beyond beautiful.
thanks Josh!
Awesome guys.... Carry On !
This video reminds me of Ecclesiastes, when he says; “when to lay down together they can keep warm“
Don’t freeze you guys♥️
Very nicely done video! Thanks for posting; be careful out there….l
Awesome guys, inspiring
Great work guys
You guys are amazing I enjoyed your video be positive and you will achieve anything 😊
Damnzzzzzz that peanut butter mud headwind combo looked devastating for moral! Good job guys
definitely the toughest days of the trip so far!
Hi Victoria and Daniel, it was very beautiful watching you two diving through Nevada Desert with bike, I wish you two the best and God bless you all. ❤❤
Such an incredible video yet again. Editing, story arc, balance of action shots and narration are all great! Also you did such an incredible job to find these dirt trail roads through Nevada, your route planning is so good!
Also, the moment of vulnerability from Victoria was lovely and important to see. Even the most positive people have shit days
thanks so much! always appreciate your lovely comments
and I always appreciate your lovely replies too hehe :)
Wow, that was tough. Your resilience is invigorating. Sometimes I'm jealous of your journey and sometimes I'm not. The snow is not something I would enjoy. Well done Victoria for not giving up. You're a tough cookie. Great scenery. Thank you Greg.
Thanks Robert! So glad you liked it - riding in conditions like that is definitely not for everyone but she is as hardcore as it gets
Always makes my day when I see a new vid from you guys. I know its a lot of work to shoot and edit these, thanks. Safe travels!
Thank you! Much appreciated
My favorite video of yours by far!! Great scenery, music and effort! Great job! And, man, I love the Tumbleweeds.
Thanks so much Matthew!
Wow! Unbelievable grit and determination. You both should be so proud of yourselves for sticking with this under difficult circumstances. Very inspiring for sure.
So impressed guys, thankyou so much
hi from Elko, NV. thanks for featuring my state. It is tough but beautiful.
victoria, you're so so strong. love you
Really enjoying your subtle humour and visual story telling.
How beautiful your road work is! Thanks for your sharing of this precious experience. Good luck on your hike road always.
Just randomly stumbled upon your channel today and binged the whole series! I was super stoked when I realized Victoria was riding a Stargazer in the second video. Then even more so after seeing what Daniel did to help the effort! I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of your adventures!
Awesome to hear and thanks for watching!
Can't say enough about my Tumbleweed Stargazer. Just returned from a 8 day bikepacking ride camping every night and fully loaded in Northern California. I've had a fantastic experience since I first reached out to Daniel about sizing and drivetrains. Keep the great videos coming!
Love Rohloff so much, too!
Mud not so much.
But love your videos the most!
Great video - Nevada scenery is stunning. Wonderful gesture from Tumbleweed too - they sound like a fantastic company.
Hou’re best video and especially edit so far! Keep it up, love the vibe and the humor!
Thanks for bringing me along! 🙏❤💪
Your videos are awesome man you do such a great job at capturing the highs and lows of your journey. Love that!
Cheers Tim!
Great spirit and effort Bravo
Amazing videos
Tumbleweeds are awesome! Gr8 adventure, you two!
Great one, Greg!
You guys have a blast out there. And we all have to thank Daniel to offer you those wonderful bikes. Now Victoria is riding the exact same bike like myself, just with a different color scheme of bags. I can so feel you, and the pain you had in the headwinds. Last year I had a similar experience in Washington State around the Hartford site......riding between nuclear power plants and beautiful nature at walking speed against the wind. Crazy how this drains your legs and brain.
THANKS Greg & Victoria for letting us all join your trip. Keep it and and stay safe.
And thanks again to Daniel from Tumbleweed to be so generous!
Remember, people used to roam that land on horseback with nothing but some rations and tools for hunting, maybe a tent.
I live in Reno, family lives in Fallon. Love it here.
Love these longer videos! One of my fav eps so far.
AWESOME!
thnx so much and continued good luck and hopefully more tailwinds.
so strong and such a nice vibe :) you guys are the best
I absolutely love your Videos! Keep going! ....and this new bike...❤
Thank you for taking this ordeal to bring us these great shots. - I think that such adventures increase the "comfort zone" of both of you :-)
Having recently discovered the world of Bike Packing, I’ve watched a lot of videos on RUclips and enjoyed them, but last night I found your channel and ended up glued to the screen and watched them all back to back and I absolutely loved them. I’ve never met anyone who can deal with the adversity that both of you deal with, yet I don’t think I heard you moan once. Not only are you a pleasure to watch, but you’re both an inspiration to both bike packing and mankind in your attitudes and the story you are telling. You should be on Netflix! Absolutely cannot wait for the next episode, and if you can make them longer, it would be amazing. Stay safe and thank you for sharing your story!
Thoroughly enjoyed this one guys! Lots of type 1 fun and even some type 2 fun thrown into the mix. Lovely scenery and good tunes.
Thanks Matt! glad you liked it
So nicely edited and documented. Thanks for showing the true aspects of cycle touring; the many rewards, the feeling of elation, the times of immense determination, and the times of very low esteem and self-doubt. It's all a part of a good journey. Best wishes as you carry on.
Stay strong you Will be success amen
Just found your channel and journey... Huge kudos to you both for sharing this journey... and not just the good but the moments of self doubt that we all have that take on journeys like this. So great to see the support from Daniel at Tumbleweed.... Seriously has me looking at them for a new backpacking/touring bike for my wife. Love to see people so patient about what they build.
Fantastic episode, inspiring, touching, emotional. Good luck Greg & Victoria from The Netherlands 😘
thanks for making it q nice round number. very satisfying.
amo este viaje, los amo a los dos, maestros del tiempo y de la presencia y de la fuerza también.
Great episode! I will consider Tumbleweed when I purchase my adventure bike to ride from Deadhorse to my hometown in Honduras, Daniel looks like a genuine guy and the Prospector seems bombproof.
that sounds like it will be an incredible trip!
Yikes that is hot for spring time! Stay safe!
Fantastic trip.
Thank you for sharing your experience of seeing incredibly beautiful scenery, sleeping outside in nature, tough terrain on a bike and views.
Have a safe journey.
❤🥰👍
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your INCREDIBLE adventure with us. I admire both of you to keep up. I would never be courageous enough to do the same.
I hope you’re resting well today in Mexico and that everything is ok for both of you.
😊
Thank you Alexandra! What you are capable of might surprise you
@@GregMcCahon I was able to do a lot more when I was younger, but now I’m 51 and health issues … 😊
love practical aspect of this compilation; i mean 2 days of water, three days of food, light gears, enjoying little things...
Just found your channel guys, great journey,Daniel is such a nice guy,Chris
cheers Chris!
Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us! You have been an amazing inspiration. I‘m currently myself on a bicycle trip from home in Switzerland to Scotland. Keep up the great work! ❤
Such an inspiring and beautiful journey you are on. It makes my own travels with a van feel like a cruise ;). Love your storytelling/ vlogging/ editing skills. You guys are beautiful people. A big thanks for taking us with you along your ride. The best of luck±

After watching your inspiring videos of cycling adventures.'m captivated by the idea of cycling from Pakistan to Azerbaijan, traversing diverse landscapes and experiencing the rich cultures along the way alonly. Thank you for igniting this spark of adventure within me.
BRILLIANT VIDEO Thank you
Beautiful views. I'd love to do something like this at some point in my life! Just need to get away from my insane family first!
Keeping an eye on you from the sky lol. I think you were a perfect moving ground target 💥
Amazing 👍🏽 ❤️ 🚲
Big kudos to tumbleweed 👍👍 🚲
that was crazy. the fighter planes were shadowing you guys
Best episode yet guys! But all your episodes are like that though, cheers again, wish I could join ya's.
Phenomenal as always!
The creature at 13:43 is not a spider or a scorpion or a cross. It’s a Jerusalem cricket! They are completely harmless burrowing crickets.
I've got one tattooed to my hand 😊
Respect. Only in my dreams I can make that trip.
thats is totally insane specially when somebody’s supports you hellyeah
☕️🚴🏻♀️🥵🚴🤟
Great episode! That mud is no joke!
You both are awesome 💪💪💪
You are rocks!
I love when music is used the way that whistling embodies not just the desert, but a whole atmosphere and story of its own.
Dark Knight Rises does that when Bruce Wayne is secluded in his mansion.
Andale guey!!! Me encanta!
I agree with another post, this is the best video so far. Incredible. If only I was much younger...
thanks Andrew!
