    You know Netflix spend millions and millions and millions of dollars on making movies and documentaries. And the both of you are doing it all on your own and that’s travelling and living on your bike 🚴🏻. But what is really special about what you’re doing is your creating quality that shit’s all over what Netflix is pumping out…… 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Guys the quality on this video is outstanding 👏👏👏👏👏
    Thank you both so much for sharing.. ( And little lady when it is just to much and you feel like throwing it in just think back on what I’m saying in this comment ) And I’m speaking on behalf of millions of people 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪 A very big thank you 😊

    We had an awesome and welcoming experience cycling in Morocco in the spring of 2017 and 2018. We cycled on the same roads as you did and mixed wild camping and paying for accommodation. We were cheerfully greeted and invited on a daily basis for tea, food, and staying in people's homes or on their land. We are very grateful for this experience and the Moroccan people we met. Then this horrifying thing happened later in 2018, which apparently and unfortunately also left its marks.

      The culture in Imlil (where the incident happened) and Tafraout are very different, although they're both berbers. I am from Tafraout region, and before the last 80-100 years, the region was never under any centralized government. It was like a wild west of Morocco, people relied on an intricate set of unspoken rules, customs, and alliances to survive the semi-desertic unforgiving landscape. Foreigners to the region, even Moroccans, find it hard to adapt to these unspoken rules and often come off as rude and/or unpolite.
      Unlike Imlil, which has been shaped more recently by tourism and its proximity to larger towns, Tafraout and the anti-atlas region developed a culture of self-reliance and resilience evident by the "Igoudar" (plurial for "Agadir") fortified granary structures.

    I've been to Morocco all Over for Filming myself 20 Years ago. I must say we experienced some Extremely Friendly and kind people in our travels throughout Morocco however they also warned us about the same things you mentioned here. Not all people are Nice. There are some Very dangerous places and situations so its nice to see the Kind People of Morocco seemed to be Very Concerned about your Safety!

    Another rich and rewarding series of spectacular images juxtaposed with the underlying currents of angst as expressed in your narrative. Interestingly I ran into some strange behaviors on my first trip was way back in 1969 when my sister and I her quasi boyfriend headed out for a three night trip from New Haven, Connecticut east up to Cape Cod, MA via Rhode Island and up to the mid-Cape and then up to Boston, MA. We had clear plastic sheets as a tent/tarp and one evening the supervisor at the state park upon learning we did not have a real tent informed us that we would need to be out of the park immediately after first light! Of course so much has changed except for my passion for exploring upon my two wheels. It is so rewarding to know this spirit of adventure lives on in so many other lives…. I look forward to more episodes of your journeys… remain vigilant and god speed …. David

    Once again, a visual and emotional masterpiece. I must admit (this Florida boy loves his trees) I can only take some much barren desert landscapes. And yet, the historian in me and the geologist in me would absolutely love to see that part of Morocco.

    • @Neilhuny
      @Neilhuny Год назад

      Kind of with you about deserts, though they can be fascinating. Too hot for me, though I have spent months in them looking at the trees, their uses socially, medicinally, forage blah blah blah (Sahel) ...
      But isn't Florida excruciatingly humid in summer? Like, everything is permanently damp? Are fungal infections rife?

    • @WheelstoWander
      @WheelstoWander  Год назад +1

      I can imagine, there's many fossil's and different types of stones and minerals to be found. We got used to the barren landscapes after a while, it very special on it's own and actually quite diverse if you look closely. Though when we got back to more green area's the smell of the trees and other plants was so distinctive. That's a moment we realized how much we missed it! 🌲

    I guess all bike tours have their good days and their tough days, but the tough ones make you appreciate the good ones all the more deeply. I'm selfishly loving the slightly longer videos in this series; more for us to enjoy, but harder for you to make. :) This one seemed slightly different from your usual style... more candid, maybe; a little "sillier" (in a good way)? I really liked it! The 360-camera shots on that downhill were incredible. Looking forward to the next one. As always, be safe!

    • @WheelstoWander
      @WheelstoWander  Год назад +2

      They do, it's all about contrasts... There are high highs and sometimes low lows... And the 'lows' can definitely make you appreciate the good moments even more! I'm glad you liked the longer video's, let's see if we can keep up with it! 😬 Thanks for the insights, we're glad you liked the 360 shots, we're also very happy with the new angle! Ps. if you have some tips on where to improve we're also very open to hearing that 🙏

    Thank you for sharing your adventure, with all the work that filming entails.
    I love Morocco - I have been 3 times, always to wild corners of the country - in search of nature (birds in particular).
    One trip was different - a trek through the Jebel Sahro mountains over Xmas and NY.
    I’ve always been struck by the kindness and generosity of the people. And I love deserts and arid environments - they are exquisitely beautiful & peaceful, but always there is life if you look for it, and with respect.
    Reflecting on your experience, perhaps the filming is alienating for some cultures who want their corner of the planet to remain private.

Then of course beautiful landscapes, insights into the culture of the country you are traveling to, interesting conversations with people. You are respectful of the environment, the people you meet and their culture. You're both doing that very well and convey so much optimism and joy. That would actually be contributions for television. Have you never been asked? Anyway- thank you for these extraordinary videos!

    Back in '94 I sat, with two buddies, outside a cafe at the top of the climb out of Chefchaouen, heading toward the Rif and Ketama, and a big Moroccan guy at the next table leant back over his chair, turned to us and said in English "This is not tourist country".. That was a little disconcerting but we really wanted to see the Atlas Cedar forests of the Rif then ride on down to Fez so we continued. Apart from another slightly disconcerting experience just after we passed thru Ketama (big hashish town) we only experienced kindness and hospitality from Moroccans.. It's one of my 3 favourite countries visited, Japan and Mexico being the others..

    • @WheelstoWander

      Hm, that isn't very inviting. I can imagine that it made you doubt a bit. But I'm glad you have continued... We also had several smaller moments where it was hard to read people's intentions but luckily all the welcoming smiles, thumbs ups and general energy of the people more then made up for it! Ps. Japan and Morocco are also two of our favorites, so I guess we should go to Mexico now 😉

      We laughed at them, but then they said they would fill the boot with hashish fo us so the car would be worth more.We were still laughing at them when a police truck pulled up and they buggered off.
      The police guys were very nice, but said it was best not to stop in that area...
      I found the advice of the police and army in Morocco was always good.

      @@richardsimpson3792 Yup, we were approached by a friendly policeman in the junction town north of Ketama where we stopped for the night. He suggested we refuse any invitation to go visit a hash farm and stay in our hotel room at night. We followed his advice..

    Beautiful trip and photography. The fear and strictness of the authorities came after the terrorist attack in 2018 in the Atlas Mountains on two tourists in the middle of the mountains. It was an isolated incident. Morocco is a safe country and Moroccans are peaceful and open and there is no need to be afraid. I hope you understand the situation and have a happy trip.

    We had one single (and utterly tragic) incident with these Scandinavian girls ,so everyone here including people and authorities are highly vigilant and cautious to avoid any other such incident ,you guys should be grateful that people care for your safety ,just follow the local rules and keep away from camping in forbidden spots ,
    better safe than sorry although attacks on tourists are extremely low in Morocco ,despite receiving 13 millions of them a year ,it's 1000 time safer to sleep in the wild of Morocco than inside a university or shopping mall int the US
