I have cut so much bait with the serrated dragonfly . It’s a champion
I live on an island in Greece and i just got the pacific salt 2 serrated for fishing and snorkeling. So far so good. From what ive seen these salt series are a must have
Rust-resistance and serrations are those things that may not be always needed, but are great to have. Too bad the Salts are a bit elusive to get abroad, but still something i keep in mind.
So these knives also won't rust if you cry on them or sweat on them😂😢? Those things are a lot more frequent in my life than salt water, unfortunately! L o l 😢😅😂😊
lols! nope, its SAD proof 😂
Found a pretty killer deal ($185) on a "used" but like new in box pm2 magnacut salt online and just got it in the mail. The centering is perfect and wow...this thing has the best action of any knife I have ever owned...so smooth. Told myself I didn't need anymore knives since I have bought a decent amount of fixed blades lately...but I sold all my folders a while back and was missing having a couple different options. Figured the crucarta pm2 needed a new friend to split pocket time with when I'm not carrying a little fixie. Couldn't be happier with my recent purchase...this thing is amazing. I said no more knives soon but your video has me contemplating a serrated salt series in h2....
This is actually a great idea. I don't have a beach knife and I go frecuently on summer. Great video
Same
I have the native 5 salt in magnacut. One of my favorite knives ever. And I have over 60 high quality knives that range in price from 100 to 800 bucks. It's at a minimum top 3 because I can do anything but pry with it.
Love salts. Only niggle with these… the Pacific Salt has a bit of flex in the handle, thanks to the lack of steel liners. However the Native feels rock solid without liners (both salt and lightweight models). The Native is a fantastic design. You don’t realize just how perfect it is until you have one in hand. With a bit of lube, I can even middle finger flick them.
Thank you! I am a big fan of the Salt series and always felt that they are underrated for EDC. I even have the H1 ladybug I take to the beach
I had the Salt 1 with me in Greece and took it into the water every day when I went snorkelling. It's really impressive how rust proof the H1 is. I also made a video about it and can only recommend the Salt series. 😃
wow what an education! Didnt know this metal hardens as you sharpen it! Now I can carry when I go snorkeling! Amazing and I will have to add one to the collection!
yep, I would take the dragonfly 2 and wear it on my wrist with an elastic lanyard.
@@maxlvledc what do you think about the native 5 salt with the magna cut steal. Been reading its a better blade steel with slightly less corrosion resistance
@vktravellog1242 it has more edge retention than either lc200n or H2, but less toughness..just keep that in mind. The Native 5 in magnacut is awesome...BUT...they are eventually coming out with two new salt knives, one is a para 3 lightweight salt in magnacut
The serrated knife is actually a very good knife to cut frozen bait rinse it with saltwater and it stays mint the pacific salt 2 with a straight edge is a great knife for edc thin lightweight and low to no maintenance rust resistantlike crazy easy to keep sharp..
I have the Pacific salt 1 with serated blade, since at least 15 years. It's an excellent knive. I EDC when going on the boat, on the beach, when snorkeling or free diving... IWB (clipped inside my swimming trunk). Very light, sharp and strong. Its the old model, made in Japan, with H1 japanese steel. Now Spyderco sell the Pacific 2, slightly different, but nice too. 😊
I just discovered this knife. It’s amazing it’s good for beach adventure. My dad gave me a morakniv knife then I submerged it on salt water. A little later it gets rusty. I should’ve known the type of metal used on the knife before submerging it on the water.
I’m a Kayak fisherman, fishing the ocean on the Weat Coast, and I use the Spyderco Pacific Salt LC200N, Spyderco Soren and the Waterway as my fishing knives.
Everything else (with the exception of my H1/2 Spydeies) cannot survive a week.
LC200N keeps a good edge for an adequate amount of time, while the H series steels require touchups too frequently, for my use.
Guess we have a new best pick for near the sea areas
yeah i bought a dragonfly salt 2 on impulse when i got my first spyderco delica recently idk why i dont live near the ocean but its so cool couldn't resist lol cool video
Yeah. I have one serrated Salt knife. I keep it in my pickup truck.
I just received my Windler LC200N blade in the mail today. I've poo pooed the Windler tool in the past but lately I've been carrying as light as possible with a small EDC wallet with the knipex XS and in the other pocket the Windler knife with the pry tool. Though I'm not a fan of the Windler tool with all its implements as an EDC tool, there is no folding knife that I know of that's as narrow as the Windler knife. And that includes the Benchmade Narrows!
Just got my buddy the Native5 LC200n for a gift as he is a mechanic and I thought that should be able to handle any number of random fluids and such being thrown at it. Now I keep moving the yellow H2 Dragonfly 2 in and out of my cart.
This video is a sign. hahaha
This week I bought a Native lightweight in LC200N, very timely video. Really want to get the Magnacut, but I've got the Hogue, so I'll wait.
I have the Native 5 LW Salt in Magnacut. I much prefer the ergos over the high hump knives. To me it is the ultimate utilitarian EDC blade around. Perfect for athletic shorts as it’s an ultra light. I think the Shaman and Native 5 are the two most ergonomic knives they make. I hold them in a forward grip. Mid hump is next, so Manix 2 and Sage. The high hump models are rather uncomfortable to me in a forward grip unless you have one the is big enough to fit your hands. The Stretch 2 XL best fits my hand. The Para 3 was Spyderco’s most uncomfortable knife for me. Hated it. Got rid of my LW. Agree though, everyone needs atleast one Salt series knife.
native 5 salt in lc200n is my edc i absolutely love it
Since my interest in folding knives I have heard only good things of spyderco but in my part of the world it is extremely expensive,so I hope I can someday earn that much to carelessly buy a few.😀
well...I'm able to deduct the purchase from my taxes...so its different for me. BUT if I was going to recommend ONE expensive knife...get a salt knife first..since its irreplaceable.
I've always wanted to get one but I haven't pulled the trigger maybe i will now
I have a Petzl folding knife that has rope serration, it's a great sea knife, has a big ring in the pivot that fits carabineers. My favorite is just a fixed Bahco though, its soft and not serrated, but it can be honed to a razors edge much easier. Taken down a whole deer with just that 15 dollar knife.
I want a Lil Native Salt soooooooooo much!!!
For that Dragonfly Salt, are all of the insides completely un-rusted too, after leaving it in the washing machine?
👍🏼interesting about the hardness of the serrations.
I’ve never liked the hole or shape of spydercos. But the first time I’ve ever actually looked at a bunch of spydercos; I think it was there last clearance or blemish sale, I did see a few that I liked.
get used on ebay IMO.
@@maxlvledc 👍🏼
not buying anything for a bit. To busy playing with my 3 nightshades and making videos on my GOAT🐐😜
I'm hoping the Magnacut Salt is as good as the others for corrosion, but time will tell
It's like 9.5 where the others are a 10
Really enjoyed this video
I love my Paramilitary lightweight, so I might consider getting it in a Salt version. Never have owned a knife like these but I live in the Pacific Northwest so they might be useful lol
Spyderco doesn't currently make a PM in a Salt version. I've never seen one in either the PM2 or PM3, but that doesn't mean they have never made one. The Pacific Salt is the same SIZE as the PM2. If you really want a compression lock "Salt", I think the only one currently available is the Caribbean. LC200N blade, all other steel bits are an even more corrosion resistant stainless steel, and the clip is titanium. Not cheap though.
@@johnsanford3596 he said in the video they were gonna make one.
Nice video, I wish you talked about the pros and cons of h1 and H2 blades….
I asked the rep at blade show about this, there is no discernable difference in performance. Larin Thomas did his own evaluation and found something similar.
I've Byrd cara cara2 salt: just fantastic tool with ropes and everything else on boat or ridding, it has not acuminate point.
Ps. Just a small add, I don't like partially serrated.. but high quality full serrated is another world: it's another cutting experience.
100% agree, also Byrd makes a salt series knife?
@@maxlvledc BY17SOR2 the model, but in Europe is almost impossible to get (as most of spyderco catalog).
I want one of the smaller ones so I can try and fit the blade into a victorinx like I have seen another youtuber do! -But I have too many projects lined up atm, so I will save it for a future time...
The Drop bear in LC200N makes no sense. 154CM has better edge retention and the springs and hardware will rust anyway
Not according to pete from cedric and ada...lc200n definitely had better edge retention
If you didn't so far, I'd recommend to try the quiete CarrY drift 2
I have it! and its my favorite (just wish I had mine with texture). but its more bling then functional. At least I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.
But can i put it in the dishwasher 😂
Why did you omit the Autonomy 2. It is designed for the saltwater carry.
I mean, I already bought 6 and there are WAAAY more. I even had a spydichef I didn't show.
The Boye Cobalt knife is the best sailing knife in the world.
didn't know about these but DAMN those prices! I'll stick with H2 which is basically corrosion proof unless you store your knives in salt water when your not using them.
@@maxlvledc the knives are expensive for a reason... namely because they are always sharp microscopically . The dendritic steel is always serrated. There is a reason Practical Sailor always chooses them as the best, and I'll second that.
Do they do the bug with those scales?
Work hardening, so cool! I’m sold
with the recent announcement of the para 3 magnacut, this got me thinking... does all hardware from lightweight model (salt + not salt) are all rust resistance? or it is different metal like the dropbear you mention... don't use normal LW model into water to prevent rust... planning get a para 3 salt with AWT scale but not sure the scale will rust or not
They are likely marine grade stainless.
Thanks for the video, so we knew SALT series designer for salt water (rust resist), but what is green frn means from? And i dig info of the newest knife from salt is native5 LW right? And new salt all of them will be using magnacut steel? What's difference of LC200N and magnacut besides good rust resistant
Lc200n has much higher toughness. More corrosion resistance and LESS edge retention
Magnacut - Better edge retention, a little more difficult to sharpen. LC200N a bit tougher than Magnacut, but probably not enough to matter. Magnacut is being used in bushcraft knives, so clearly the primary abusers of knives are willing to take a shot on it. LC200N is a tiny bit more corrosion resistant, but if you find yourself in a situation where the difference actually matters, you probably have much, much bigger problems to deal with. (Chlorine gas breathing dragons, hydrochloric acid spitting manta rays, you know, INTERESTING TIMES.)
That particular shade of green, as well as the yellow, are, to my knowledge, only used on Salt series knives. I could be wrong though.
I'm looking at this video because I may be going back to sea in the navy at some point in the future, and I could use something that I've always got about my person but that is also salt water resistant and will cut lines, tri-wall, and "other stuff that needs cutting immediately". I don't want that lightweight clip though, it'll get bent.
The pacific salt knives have a very strong metal clip. The wire clips are definitely less strong
Why does the dragonfly 2 have a stainless steel clip and a black one? Which one do you prefer?
They cover any steel that isn't salt water resistant. Hence the black coating
Lost me at slip joint brother, i like the rest...
for travel to places like Canada, UK, etc its a great option.
Is there an ETA you’ve heard for the Para 3 LW Magnacut?
Not soon enough!!!
Thinking about getting the Spyderco saver salt as a boating knife. Anyone have experience with it? Thinking it’s good because blade is less prone to puncture raft but still long enough to be useful.
very good knife, I just dont own one.
I carry the Dragonfly Salt, amazing little guy, lives in my swimming shorts all summer…however, it’s definitely NOT worth the price. It’s should be a free gift to more expensive Spydercos, close to $100 for it is simply ridiculous. It’s a three piece made of plastic and relatively crappy steel. It’s function is what I paid for, and I use full-time, with a salty aftertaste in my mouth though…
lol, yea. At $60 it would be perfect!
If work hardening is an important factor in blade retention, does that make it even more important to use sharpening steel in maintenance?
Good question, and I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer it.
Spyderco Carribean
I like that one a lot.
You missed the Caribbean and the SpydieChef. Both are "salty" as well, in fact Spyderco includes the Caribbean among the Salt knives.
Methinks the best "all around" Salt is the Pacific Salt LC200N, although I am also fond of my Caribbean. With the exception of the drop on the tip of the blade, it's pretty much the same as the Endela. Longer blade than the Native 5. I love, love LOVE the Endela.
btw, Peterson didn't take the knives to the Dead Sea. That would have been really, really silly for him to do, although I'm sure he would have if the company would have picked up the tab. He took them to the Great Salt Lake, which is a mere 40 miles from Blade HQ, rather than 7,000+ miles to the Dead Sea.
I may have to get myself a PM3 SaltyMag when they come out. I'd love to see the Pacific Salt with a SpydieEdge, made in Magnacut. I'd be all over it.
Woops! Good catch
Isn't anyone Salt with liner lock? I really hate back lock, is the most uncomfortable locking system in my opinion.
Spyderco : overated
not these, and I would say Spyderco is much closer to appropriate cost than say...BENCHMADE..
In my Career as a whaler my ship got swallowed by a giant whale and dropped my H1 knife in its belly. For 20 years I hunted that whale down, and while we were chopping the whale up for a feast for the village I found my H1 knife and it looked exactly the same. Completely true story and not made up.
