This is the most under appreciated arcade racing game of all time. The ps2 version was the best version; gameplay amazing, graphics on this version were at least 3 years ahead of time, I can’t begin to count how many hours I lost playing this game as kid.
This game was my childhood. I miss it so much! I remember getting this game in 2004! i managed to get that dodge viper up to 202 MPH with the NFS edition one time. also, i was addicted to looking behind me and flashing my lights with the horn 😂🔥 NFSHP2 for life
My addiction was trying to get the McLaren f1 to break 240 mph, still havent and now my driving skills ingame and off have multiplied by tenfold since then. Fuck I need to play this again i believe the McLaren can go faster than 240. Which is my most favorite car that I'd pick over a Bugatti. While the f1 sports a v8 from BMW with only 600hp to get up to 20YRS OF HIGH SPEED STREET LEGAL RECORD over the Gattis what 2 v8's with a set of twin turbos on each motor to get 1,000 and yet the veyron only first managed to get 253mph... smh
For me, this was the game that started it all. NFS Hot Pursuit 2 sparked the beginning of my love affair with car racing games. But, Gran Turismo strengthened my love for racing games.
I remember the first time i saw this running on my ps2, it was not only super fun but also absolutely stunning, and honestly it's still very beautiful to this day
There are widescreen patches available for the emulator that preserve the aspect ratio of the game assets and HUD. It looks to me like it's being used in this video, but I could be wrong.
I booted this game up for old time's sake yesterday and played a couple of races--it's crazy how well this still holds up after all these years. It has everything it needs and nothing it doesn't--no need for upgrade systems since races would naturally get more difficult as you went down the list of challenges and they'd offer you faster cars to choose from, opponent AI was relatively fair (and they often made mistakes while driving), police were just aggressive enough to make races interesting without being frustrating, the soundtrack gets you pumped to drive fast, there's no need for a story--it's just you vs them and the cops. This was, like, the ideal arcade-style racer for home consoles and PC. EA's Black Box Studio was on fire during this era.
I swear to god..... EVERYTHING FROM THE PAST IS COMING BACK TO ME IN 2019. I started getting back to playing old Super Mario games, Gran Turismo, and now this??? I haven't heard or played from this NFS game in years!!! I guess it's time to make a comeback (soon after I finally get a new spare PS2 Dualshock controller cuz every one except the PS1 controller is broken lol)
This brings back so many great memories. My Dad and I used to play this a lot when I was 6 or so. Good times. Makes me so nostalgic seeing all the different cars and stuff too

The greatest Need for Speed game of all time even better than Most Wanted 2005. And I love how you make the graphics look like 2019 material. 1080p helps. Thank you for bringing back in the stolic I was 16 when it came out
I was 4 when this game came out. Ofc I don’t know when I got the game but my game has a lot of memories from the very scratched up but still surprisingly readable disc to the original cut up plastic on the case with the art cover having a deep cut in it from a key (don’t ask how) until I put the art cover into a new case I had from a newer game without a cut in the case cover. The cops felt like an overwhelming force in this game: always faster, more, and could do bombing una with the chopper. The underdog feeling hasn't really been accomplished that well other than the final pursuit in MW05.

The last of the original Need for Speeds before they went ricer and then Need for Drift. All Ghost need to do is make a physics model exactly like this and they'll be good.
sidekick I hate it too, it's not enjoyable. I'm old fashioned, I like one raw semi-realistic physics model. I don't mind drifting, but I want it to be because the natural physics model loses grip and reacts like in NFS Underground and games before that, not because I push a button and it changes into "drift physics mode" and turns corners faster. I want my car to feel like an actual car, a lot of people do. Except for Ghost because for some reason they are delusional thinking NFS is all about drifting around a corner at 200mph. Look in this video, xTimelessGaming only slides when he either pushes the handbrake or rapidly turn left-right-left, and that's because the tyres lost grip. It didn't activate another physics model. To me, this is NFS. Heck, everything up until Shift had a natural physics model. Ever since brake to drift in HP2010, every NFS has had that stupid gimmick, it's unnatural and lame. How long do we have to wait until we see a normal NFS game?
Marcelo Tezza I know, all the fans are asking for it. Every year all the fans ask for is a physics model like the classic NFS games had. That's why the likes of this, Most Wanted and Underground are considered the best games. But for some reason Ghost can't compute. People just want the cars to handle like a car. Everything else about Ghosts games are pretty good. In all the other aspects of it they are doing what the fans ask. Everywhere except for the actual handling model, but to be fair, they've been working on this handling model since Rivals and built off it. They probably don't want to start from scratch again. But just look at HP2. You have suspension physics, which effects grip, and when your car goes loose it's because your car actually went loose, you didn't press a button to activate drift mode.
Remember when video games worked out of the box and required no 20 GB patch every week? Remember when you unlocked stuff by playing the game instead of paying for DLC? Remember when games were infinitely playable and fun?
This game is just...I remember loving it SO much on PS2. Something about it just felt so right, so good. Love the stages so much. Long long natural stages with high speed and a sense of cruising on the highways and in natural locations made this one a winner.
