Very first need for speed i ever played and absolutely fell in love. Still play it to this day this game is the reason the 2000 mustang cobra r and Lamborghini Diablo are 2 of my 3 all time dream cars!
I should be doing law study, but ehh... This game means so much to me, and to see it reviewed by one of my favourite reviewers is so much more important!
This was the first game I ever played as a kid, when I got my PS2. This game felt so unreal. I always loved how aggressive the cops were, how great the cars looked and sounded, the aesthetic of the tracks, and just how incredible the game was overall.
As a little kid my brother and I rented this from blockbuster and we absolutely loved it and luckily our parents later bought it for us. Yesterday, after 3 hours straight of trying, i managed to beat Championship Event 29, the 6 lap coastal race in the CLKs. Could never ever beat this as a kid but now ive managed to scrape by by 0.10 seconds
Fun fact: When I was 5 I was scared of this game, like I couldn't be in the same room as somebody playing it. To this day I have 0 fucking clue why that is, but I can actually enjoy it nowadays.
The only acceptable version of this game was on the PS2 tbh. I was blessed to have the PS2 version and never looked back at any other versions because none look half as good lol.
The newer Hot Pursuit was okay, but didn't even come close to this one. I thought they did a damn near perfect job here. Great selection of cars, tracks with beautiful scenery, and the AI for both cops & opponents was spot on. I miss driving the Ferrari F-50. PS2 good memories. Appreciate the review!
Local 1v1 on this game holds up surprisingly well, even to this day. They got the catchup + cops formula perfect to keep it interesting the whole race Great review as always! Have you ever considered reviewing Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction? Seems well-suited for your channel
I have GameCube version and PS2 version. Other things that were never mentioned in this video: Horns- you can honk in all versions but when you look behind you, your headlights flash in PS2 version. McLaren F1 LM- in GameCube and the other 2, the car is only 1 color, the beautiful iconic orange that idk the name of, but PS2 allows you to change the color, orange, red, blue, silver, and black. Points- in PS2 he mentioned you get points over time from racing, in GameCube and the other 2, it’s “bank”, you buy the cars so you can race them in free run or buy better police cars. Coastal Parklands race- They are the same tracks but the scenery is completely different as well as some short cuts. When you start the race, your first short cut is dirt, as in PS2, it’s tarmac, and same with the light house. Before the tunnel, you have a big cliff with some grass and trees maybe, that is basically just a wall, unlike PS2, it’s the beautiful sea/ocean. The chief cut to the left of the tunnel is the same until you reach the bridge. GameCube has a little concrete bridge while PS2 has a broken sewer pipe with a nice little stream going through it for you to splash through. Driving style- GameCube and the other 2 you can go straight into the race and it asked you if you want to use auto or manual. As for PS2, it asked for transmission and handling style. Auto, semi-auto, and manual, handling styles are classic or extreme, which is a more simulation feel if you choose extreme. When you do free run(I’ve never done anything else other that free run outside of career mode as I’ll call it), there’s traffic settings, GameCube and the other 2 offer “on” and “off” while PS2 has off, minimum, moderate, and maximum. Car modeling- GameCube and the other 2 have a different version of the Mercedes CLK GTR than PS2 does. The license plates in GameCube are yellow, while PS2 has actual Europe license plates. **This comment WILL be updated if I have more to add.**
Amazing review! NFS Hot Pursuit 2 is my favorite one in the franchise, and I never realized there was this version by Blackbox. So I got it and it's every bit as good as you say. Not only am I impressed with the improved graphics, but the physics are on another level too! Thank you so much!
Man, this game hits me hard with nostalgia. Looking back at this time, one of the things I absolutely loved was the soundtrack. My favorites were the two songs by Hot action cop (Feva for the flava, Goin' Down On It ). For me, those two songs really give the game its own personality. I also find it ironic that the two songs in the game are censored versions of the original songs. Which made finding out/listening to the uncensored songs many years later to be really damm funny. But you gotta hand it to them, turning a song about wanting to eat a girl's p***y to a song talking about how badass your car is. Or a song about having sex to a song about outrunning the cops in a fast car.
8:31 here's a fun fact. There's a little detail that the police won't chase you if you drive slowly because I did it once when driving around one of the track alone.
I had no idea this game was like this on PS2. I've only ever played the Gamecube version. I loved this game, holy crap, what have I been missing out on
Had all the NFS's during the PS2 days, but always kept coming back to this one. The handling model and tension/sense of speed was awesome. Much better than the brake to drift type of handling of recent NFS's imo
For the longest time, before i even read the lyrics, i always thought those two tracks were written for the game from the perspective of a police officer wanting to get a piece of the action.
@@pourgoi_6100 kinda funny actually....the NFS versions of those songs are so much better and probably would have saved their careers, instead of writing an album about sex and then disappearing into the abyss.
Hot Pursuit 2: 5 minutes of running from the police Lamborghini and finally get pulled over, only to get a speeding ticket from the 400lb cop driving it.
I absolutely love this game. A TV commercial here in Germany right around christmas was the reason I wanted a PS2 and this game, and thankfully I got it. I probably played it for hundreds of hours. Even the mid-tier cars (Lambos, Ferraris etc) were tons of fun already.
Damn the cops in this game can be really ruthless, I tried the game again yesterday and from the first race they were aggressive and constantly trying to push you off.
The cops in NFS Heat at night remind me so much of this game....they are so aggressive and angry.....plus the chatter is funny. Honestly the best part of Heat is the night mode, it's like playing an entirely different game.
You should message LGR to help you running the old NFS on modern machines. Thank you for this review, ive been on a binge of old NFS videos and this is awesome
The first time I played NFSHP2 was on one of those PS2 demo discs that used to come with game magazines. It was only one or two tracks but I played the crap out of it. When the game finally released I decided to get the Xbox version expecting it to be better. At the time Xbox versions of multiplatform games were almost always better. I can't express the disappointment I felt when I got home and tried the game. That same day I went back to Babbage's and exchanged it for the PS2 version. I live in the boonies and this was not a short trip, but it was so worth it. NFSHP2 is my favorite racing game of all time. I still play it regularly. Great job on covering the differences between the PS2 and other versions of this game. Most videos I watch about the game either don't mention it or are unaware of the differences. You always do an amazing job of diving into the backgrounds of the games you review. I always feel sorry for the people that say they played one of the non PS2 versions thinking it was a good game without realizing what they missed out on.
2:08 Similar situation is with NfS4. EA Seattle developed PC version, while EA Canada is responsible for PS1 game. That time PC release wasn't considered as inferior (as it runs with more plausible framerate, have Hot Pursuit tracks and thanks to community, many new cars were added to the game through the mods). 6:02 Neither Elise S2 and VX220 are slow, even with their early engine options. The Z3 and SLK from High Stakes are slower. The issue with Lotus and it's GM twin is the lack of top speed. These would be great for game like Most Wanted, but HP2 requires higher top speed due to its track design. Still, I liked driving these two sport cars more as opposed to the boat CL500 or family sedan TS50. 6:10 E39 M5 and Diablo SV police vehicles are in High Stakes, supported with the last american made Caprice, 993 Turbo and helicopter (which You can't use in pursuit mode, but it's there). The Australian release of NFS4 is supported with HSV VT GTS police vehicle. 7:30 Depends how You put it, High Stakes is the first NfS game to use licensed music. It's there where aside from Rom di Prisco and Saki Kaskas who wrote music for the game, we could listen to Junkie XL, Lunatic Calm, Dylan Rhymes and few other artists. What this review don't mention is certain downside about soundtrack - about how often certain songs were repeated during different races (which made me restart the race in order to shuffle for other song). It was then I realized there's playlist option which is a blessed feature as it allow the player to organize music (got bored of this songs being played too often, while The Humble Brothers and Matt Ragan appear rarely? Not an issue anymore). To be fair, the soundtrack for HP2 is a letdown - only 15 songs (excluding instrumental versions), previous games in the series had more. This is a low number, considering not all of the music slap as opening song or Black Hole (my favorite).
Back in the ps2 days, the lack of powerful hardware made developers compensate for a lot of things the more powerful system could do... Black box ingenuity and creativity was rewarded with the keys for the Nfs Franchise, going down as creator of the best NFS Games to this day. 👏❤️ God I miss Black box 😭
I rented this game multiple time as a kid, but only bought when I was in high school. My typical weekend when I rented that game was: Go to the store at around 4 to 5 pm. Play until midnight. Wake up a 6 am on Saturday, play until midnight. Wake up at 6 am on Sunday. Play until 9 pm, which was my bed time at the time. I play that game so much, I cannot play more than an hour without getting bored.
I am so nostalgic for this game. I use to play this game for an unhealthy amount of time when I was a kid. I dont think i ever 100% the game but I didn't care, I had a lot of fun playing it. I still listen to the OST to this very day.
My disappointment was immeasurable when I got this for PC after playing my friend's PS2 version. Well, that was an exaggeration but the quality between the versions is painstakingly obvious.
Fun Fact: If you ram the police as they're sitting there and shunt them while they're stationary, then it will put them out of commission before they start to chase you! I learned this and use it to my advantage when I can sometimes to hold off pursuits as well

I loved doing that in Midnight Club L.A. You couldn't actually slam the cop with the door, but if you pulled over, you could speed off again while they were walking up to your car!
@@scottthewaterwarrior surely a feature that NFS devs looked at and said "shit....why didn't we think of that"
This was my very first video game. The memories come flooding back. This was the game that made me want to become a cop.
So i spent the last 2-3 days listening to this game’s OST, on a pure nostalgia trip and colourshed decides to upload this. Small world.
This and Most Wanted are my all time favourites. So many memories.
First LGR comes up with the NFS 2 video, then Rayveick comes up with the NFS Carbon video and now ColourShed comes up with the NFS Hot Pursuit 2 video. Nice
Nice indeed......the older NFS games were so great....I hope NFS 2021 can bring it back.
*Raycevick.
This was the first ever PC game I played. One night in 2006 my mom came home with a CD with this game on it, and my journey began. It brings so many memories.
Alright you know what? I appreciate you taking the time to produce this emotional roller coaster. You’re a damn legend!
Think of your future. Plenty of time to waste on youtube later!
@@infasis This comment right here!
0:41 didn't even know Aussies got their own cover art with the HSV and SVT on it. I thought every copy had the yellow Murcielago
Me (an American): It’s getting late and I’m tired. Time to get some slee....

Me: Wouldn’t hurt to stay up a little longer
You: a typical copy/paste comment from every other RUclips comment thread
Me: gee never seen that one before!
Can you do a Test drive unlimited 1 and 2 review ?
Whoa. That's a title that's got some dust on it!
Fun fact: When I was 5 I was scared of this game, like I couldn't be in the same room as somebody playing it.
To this day I have 0 fucking clue why that is, but I can actually enjoy it nowadays.
Perhaps the person playing raged while playing and that scared you?
I know I got furious playing this game.
Go to therapy bro. The reason is probably very serious and limits other parts of your life. Don't be a hero, get help.
I used to be scared of big ass trucks well because they are big and loud af and could wipe you off the road like a bug
@@robbylebotha imagine someone going to therapy because NFS hot pursuit 2 scared them as a kid
The only acceptable version of this game was on the PS2 tbh. I was blessed to have the PS2 version and never looked back at any other versions because none look half as good lol.
My version is luckily still running on my working PS2
I've only ever played the PC version
I loved it but I'm buying a PS2 used soon to get the authentic experience
I played the pc version after having played the ps2 version for most of my childhood. I was so disappointed
PS2 version was developed by Black Box. Naurally it was much better than the EA Seattle version that did the other 3
@@EndlessFunctionality I see
The newer Hot Pursuit was okay, but didn't even come close to this one. I thought they did a damn near perfect job here. Great selection of cars, tracks with beautiful scenery, and the AI for both cops & opponents was spot on. I miss driving the Ferrari F-50. PS2 good memories. Appreciate the review!
I love this game. I spent so much time in my childhood playing this and just free roaming around the tracks.
Me too. I would pretend I was driving real car, obey the speed limit, and park in parking spots lol.
Local 1v1 on this game holds up surprisingly well, even to this day. They got the catchup + cops formula perfect to keep it interesting the whole race
Great review as always! Have you ever considered reviewing Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction? Seems well-suited for your channel
*Hands down* the best racing game I've ever played.. the disc rarely left my PS2
It was all downhill from here - this was _peak_ racing game, people
The cop at 9:30 was so dedicated 🤣🤣
Also, solid video! I owned the ps2 version and it was a family game night fave. I’m glad I got that version.
You've been incredible with these video releases. They're always great. I appreciate the time you put into making them.
this was my very first NFS game. i still play it on my PS2 to this day and i’ll never forget my first time driving the F50 and the F1!
I have GameCube version and PS2 version.
Other things that were never mentioned in this video:
Horns- you can honk in all versions but when you look behind you, your headlights flash in PS2 version.
All European makers have europlates
I can't believe this game is 20 years old. Love both PS2 and PC versions to death.
Colourshed is gonna get that Play button from RUclips. Well deserved man! Been watching for a while and really enjoy your content. KEEP GOING
My favorites were the two songs by Hot action cop (Feva for the flava, Goin' Down On It
Yep fever for the flava was the best. Speed kills stuck with me but idk how popular it really is
I have waited years for the day you would make a video on this classic. My favorite arcade racer on PS2 hands down
8:31 here's a fun fact. There's a little detail that the police won't chase you if you drive slowly because I did it once when driving around one of the track alone.
I glad I'm not the only one that sees Hot Persuit 2 and is reminded of Forza Horizon 1
I know you’ve done different things with your borders in the past but the police lights on this was especially fun. Great work as always
I remember this game, I rubbed out a cop car so bad I went back and the car was inside the cactus. Favourite desert/Canyon map to drive on.
The main song "People That We Love" by Bush was stuck in my head for years. And still listen to this song.
In the words of Comic Book Guy about the PS2 version of NFS Hot Pursuit 2, "Best. Racing Game. EVER!!!
I had no idea this game was like this on PS2. I've only ever played the Gamecube version. I loved this game, holy crap, what have I been missing out on
I remember the soundtrack so fondly.
Had all the NFS's during the PS2 days, but always kept coming back to this one. The handling model and tension/sense of speed was awesome. Much better than the brake to drift type of handling of recent NFS's imo
The handing and game mechanics of the All wheel drive and rear wheel drive is the most accurate in a councle game probably until now (maybe)
Whoa, that aussie title is cool looking. I've only seen the Ferrari and the Lambo on the front
Great review man!! I spent hours on this game as a child, fantastic came on the PS2. Lot of great memories
Just found out that Hot Action Cop’s Goin Down On It and Fever For The Flava are actually songs about sex.
My childhood was a lie 😂
yeah the original versions are fucking garbage lmao
For the longest time, before i even read the lyrics, i always thought those two tracks were written for the game from the perspective of a police officer wanting to get a piece of the action.
@@pourgoi_6100 kinda funny actually....the NFS versions of those songs are so much better and probably would have saved their careers, instead of writing an album about sex and then disappearing into the abyss.
Yes, and this song is one of the rare case where the censored, or toned down version is better.
Yep its all a lie.
Hot Pursuit 2: 5 minutes of running from the police Lamborghini and finally get pulled over, only to get a speeding ticket from the 400lb cop driving it.
your channel is such a nostalgia trip thanks man
I absolutely love this game. A TV commercial here in Germany right around christmas was the reason I wanted a PS2 and this game, and thankfully I got it. I probably played it for hundreds of hours. Even the mid-tier cars (Lambos, Ferraris etc) were tons of fun already.
Oh wow dude I remember I subscribed at around 300 subscribers and you are improving a lot congrats when you reach 100k
11:42 "19-27, Lets bump him."
"Time for bumper cars!"
Holy shit, I've been waiting for you review this game. This game was literally my childhood.
Yessss more NFS Reviews!!!!! Keep up the good work
I got Need For Speed 3, Porsche Unleashed and Need For Speed High Stakes to run on Windows 10 very easily. Was fun to relive my youth.
after 12 years , this gentleman said what i felt and i couldn't express it good enough there and then.
love that one cop "IVE GOT EM AGEEEAAANNNN!"
You should message LGR to help you running the old NFS on modern machines. Thank you for this review, ive been on a binge of old NFS videos and this is awesome
Honestly was waiting for so long for you to review this classic!
Glad to see more NFS vids around, its obvious that a lot of people dearly miss this series, i have 0 hopes for EA making a good NFS game though

Similar situation is with NfS4.
EA Seattle developed PC version, while EA Canada is responsible for PS1 game.
That time PC release wasn't considered as inferior (as it runs with more plausible framerate, have Hot Pursuit tracks and thanks to community, many new cars were added to the game through the mods).
6:02
Neither Elise S2 and VX220 are slow, even with their early engine options.
6:10
E39 M5 and Diablo SV police vehicles are in High Stakes, supported with the last american made Caprice, 993 Turbo and helicopter (which You can't use in pursuit mode, but it's there).
The Australian release of NFS4 is supported with HSV VT GTS police vehicle.
7:30
Depends how You put it, High Stakes is the first NfS game to use licensed music.
Dude the quality on these video is fucking insane please keep it up
I've been waiting for you to review this forever, so glad it's up! Keep up the great work man✌🏽
The sound track of this game is so amazing🔥
Back in the ps2 days, the lack of powerful hardware made developers compensate for a lot of things the more powerful system could do...
Black box ingenuity and creativity was rewarded with the keys for the Nfs Franchise, going down as creator of the best NFS Games to this day. 👏❤️
God I miss Black box 😭
I rented this game multiple time as a kid, but only bought when I was in high school.
My typical weekend when I rented that game was: Go to the store at around 4 to 5 pm. Play until midnight. Wake up a 6 am on Saturday, play until midnight. Wake up at 6 am on Sunday. Play until 9 pm, which was my bed time at the time.
I play that game so much, I cannot play more than an hour without getting bored.
I have such fond memories for the PC version.
And then I found out about the PS2 version.
No regrets.
Yeah I found out the magic of the ps2 version like 10 years ago never playing the inferior versions again
ColourShed AND Raycevick video on the same day? Hell yeah!
Damn right my childhood! Hot action cop the goat
I was 3 when this game came out but it was my first GameCube game when I was about 6-7. The nostalgia for this is insane omg
I always loved listening to the VO for the cars in the menu. Thought that was pretty cool.
Oh yeah. I've been waiting for this one!
Fun Fact: If you ram the police as they're sitting there and shunt them while they're stationary, then it will put them out of commission before they start to chase you! I learned this and use it to my advantage when I can sometimes to hold off pursuits as well
Damn! I remember playing this game for WEEKS ON END. My dad and I would play this for ages! I was 18 when this came out and we played this game well into my 20s!
