    Here's a fun fact about this episode. I just finished reading Alex's book "Wordwatching" where he talks quite a bit about this appearance. By pure coincidence, he actually knew the other contestant, Jeremy, having met him several years earlier and singlehandedly inspired him to start studying Latin. I mean, what are the odds of them going against each other on Countdown?? I had seen this episode before but this blew my mind.
    Also: if you like Alex and/or you like words, READ THAT BOOK! It's so good!

      I just listened to him on Susie's podcast and heard the story about Honk and why he even appeard on Countdown. Such an interesting guy.

    Pretty cool that Carol Vorderman would go on to appear in one of the Taskmaster New Years Treats over 10 years on from this.
    Alex's insane growth from here with Taskmaster just goes to show you never know how big your future might get.

    For the numbers doesn’t (9*75)+((100-(50/2))/25) work?
    Edit: oh I guess carol did eventually get it. I still feel smart though.

    • @josephb4919
      @josephb4919 3 года назад +1

      I had 9*75 + (100+50)/(25*2)

    My fellow Orielensis Rachel is great too but it's nice seeing Carol write within the squares like someone who isn't deranged. Surprised that Alex and the other guy didn't get the first numbers game -- it's very easy.

    • @icturner23
      @icturner23 3 года назад +1

      Just unpaused and Carol didn't get it either! The 3 is just (100+50)/(2*25).

    Could someone double-check my calculation?
    9x75=675, then 100+50=150, then 150/25=6, then 6/2=3 and finally 675+3 for 678?

    • @secretforreddit
      @secretforreddit 4 года назад +3

      I got the same: (9x75) + ((100+50)/(2x25)) = (675) + (150/25) = 675 + 3 = 678.

    • @mercifulzeus01
      @mercifulzeus01 2 года назад +1

      @@secretforreddit Rachel would have got that in about 5 seconds...

  • @stricken5690
    @stricken5690 3 месяца назад

    For the numbers
    9 and 75 for 675
    Add 50 and 100 for 150
    Multiply 25 by 2 for 50
    Divide 150 by 50 for 3
    675 plus 3 is 678

    @Austin101123 Nope. Each number can only be used once.
    Another method of 678 that actually works:
    9 X 75=675
    100 +50=150
    150/25=6
    6/2=3
    675+3=678

  • @cwn89015

    Another way to get 678 is this:
    75x9=675,
    100-25=75,
    50/2=25,
    75/25=3,
    675+3=678.
