- A sad day for Countdown fans and the end of an era as Carol Vorderman turns the consonants and vowels one last time, after 26 years of service. This includes all the original adverts.
This was also Des O'Connor's last episode in the chair aswell as the series 59 grand final. Sadly Des passed away only a week after i uploaded this. RIP
I really felt it at the end. 26 years is hard to walk away from.
Brought tears to my eyes. Bless her
At least we got Rachel Riley as her replacement 😍
I was feeling a bit blue today for no particular reason and decided what I needed was a good cry, so I dug up Carol's and Des O'Connor's final episode of Countdown. It did the trick.
Me too. Different kind of tears though.
A fitting conundrum for the end. ERACLOSES
Amazing how they keep coming up with such appropriate scrambles. On Richard Whiteley's last show before his passing the conundrum was LIFEFAIDS (FALSIFIED)
@@marcpower4167and on Des Lynam’s last show, the conundrum was FINALNITE (INFANTILE)
@@marcpower4167what was slightly more ominous was that in the final numbers game of Richard’s last show, Carol picked up the numbers in the shape of a cross 😢 obviously highly unlikely to have been intentional
I swear Junaid has been in everything!
- Countdown
- The Chase
- Michael McIntyre's The Wheel
- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
He was in the 1% club as well
Nope, wrong Junaid. The person here is Junaid Mubeen, the person you're thinking of in those other game shows is Junaid Alvi.
Carol was amazing on the show
Also RIP Des O Connor
Des O’Connor was such a bore on all his shows
The hot maths lady "now for a hard one boys"

Carol is always so very beautiful!
Watching this makes me realize how much more I preferred Des hosting over Nick…
I honestly prefer the banter. Countdown isn't interesting enough without the comedians
39:55 I think the reason why they chose CASSEROLE for the conundrum is because Carol's name is hidden in it - CAsseROLe
It’s also because scrambled it was ERACLOSES
July 25, 2008, Channel 4 announced that Carol was stepping down from Countdown. She later said she had resigned after failing to agree terms with Channel 4 for a new contract, and it was reported that she had been asked to take a cut of 90% from her previous salary, estimated as £900,000. Nice money if you can get it !.
So you're saying they asked she go down to £90,000 or that she was making £9,000,000 per season?
@@anthonyvincel7266
He isn't saying anything, just quoting wiki, who in turn are quoting the BBC; according to an article on BBC News, Vordermann made 900,000 per year and was asked to accept 90,000 per year instead.
July 25th 2008. I had just turned six 😳
@@ricksimon9867 It was channel 4s way of telling her to fuck off knowing she'd never accept it. Worse was how they replaced her by a younger model 25 years her junior who just happened to be beautiful.
@@anthonyvincel7266 He was saying she was earning 900,000 a year and they were trying to reduce it to 90k. I am confused where /how you got those figures from the ops comment.
Des O'Connor is really missed. RIP
Carol’s an engineer and flies her own plane. Good enough for me 😍
Carol has gone on to more worthwhile things exposing the crooks in British politics.
Carol's so very beautiful, super intelligent, and very caring.
Beat bit of the whole show was the lady introducing it at 0:05 😂
She never did find her voice. They had to put her down, sadly.
Those commercials were so nostalgic
Should have seen the commercials from the late 80s and early 90s.
It is funny to see how carol was on episode 1 compared to the last episode .How people evolve
yeh
The fact that she sometime sobbing makes me feel really sad abt it
The thing about Giles, watching QI I used to find him annoying, but damn he warmed up to me, and now I always enjoy watching him with his fun stories :)
Rip Des O Connor, another host of Countdown :(
Loving the British commercials!
Ok, so I did get the first one eventually.
I started identifying that 927 is divisible by 3 and by 9.
So, 927/9 equals 103. Getting the 103 was the difficult part.
5+4=9
8*6*2=96
96+7=103
9*103=927
Nice!
6x8=48
48-2=46
46x5x4=920
920+7=927
I actually managed to get it in like 15 seconds, and considering I almost never get it with 6 small numbers I guess I was lucky with how I started
I did the following:
8x6x4=192
192-7=185
185x5=925
925+2=927
Damn sure took me longer than 30 seconds, though.
@@inigomunagorri3680 Yeah I did that too, took me like 20 seconds
I forgot how beautiful Carol was.
Fine-lookin’ lady.
I think I'd do better on this if they increased the timer a bit. Maybe by about 3 hours.

Carol look beautyful..
6:50 a 'sloper' is a term used in rock climbing to describe a particular type of sloping hold, and is often used in the plural, so perhaps it'll make its way to the OED one of these days!
I’m not sure what version they use in this episode, but Its in the Shorter OED (Two Volumes) but with a different defintion: A native or inhabitant of the Pacific slope of the United States
The grand prize had a more shocking and quicker depreciation than a ford pinto
What was the grand prize?
I got the first one this way, though it did take me a minute;
8 x 6 = 48
48 - 2 = 46
46 x 5 = 230
230 x 4 = 920
920 + 7 = 927
8*2*6+7=103*(5+4)=927
Same here, surprised that Carol didn’t get it
I finished with 1026
My friend loves Des O'connor lol XXX
2008?
A prize of books?
We had the internet even then.
We've had internet likely since before you were born.
@@Adam_Outdoors I used to pay $2 a minute for internet in the 90's. It was mostly BBS sites and everyone saw the internet like people today see Bitcoin. (Only for the rich, smart people, and criminals.)
We also had CD's with books on them. So these books are just way out of place. Other than to be a fire hazard in the house paid for with Bitcoin.
But computer screens were pretty crappy.
But the information in those books can't be erased!
I've always looked at it this way: Countdown it's more about the prestige than the prize.
For the first numbers round: we used all numbers 2, 6, 8, 5,7, and 4. Here’s the solution: Multiply 2 times 6 times 8 for 96 then add 7 for a total 103. Then the 103 times 5 plus 4 for a total 927. First step: (2 • 6 • 8) + 7 = 103. Second step: 103 (5+4) = 927
Very good. I got 928 in time by (7*5-6)*4*8.
First numbers game (achieved in the 30s):
5 x 4 = 20
6 x 8 = 48
48 - 2 = 46
46 x 20 = 920
920 + 7 = 927
I got 927 within time as well cause i realised its a multiple of 9
6 x 2 = 12
12 x 8 = 96
96 + 7 = 103
4 + 5 = 9
9 x 103 = 927

Bless you Carol.
All the episodes of Countdown that was uploaded from Classic new television have got blocked to so will you please upload them
I don't have any of his episodes. I wish i had saved some his videos as he uploaded alot of rare stuff. But if i do find anymore full episodes myself i will upload them.
Des O'connor let RIP
suzie is soo pretty... and is still pretty even at her age...
Susie Dent looking so cute. Tearful farewell to Carol, though.
Activists scoundrelism abound, that was Carol's fate. After Richard passed, the gloves were off with the 姧holes in charge. They couldn't run those end credits quick enough.....
Carols mum and kids and the old producer Michael wylie and a bunch of famous guests was in the audience for this episode
Channel 4 didn't treat Carol very well after Richard whitely died, there was talk about carol wanted a pay rise and rumours etc. she would have made a great host
Does anyone know where I can find Des Lynam’s last show and Des O’Connor’s first show
I would love to see Des Lynam's last episode please
no one will ever carol, boy shes fit...

I've no idea why I'm only noticing how hot Carol Vorderman looked while she was on this show years after the fact. I know I was only a child at the time when she was on it but I still can't believe it never occurred to me for most of it. Rachel Riley is a little hotter but still🤨

Have to say, she's no where near as good as Rachel at the maths
She was though. You have to remember this was Carol at the end, she couldn't be fucked, she was brilliant throughout her time. I remember at the start of Rachael's time on countdown she was fumbling the answers a lot, it took a bit of time for her to start getting to the level she is now, and she'll eventually get sloppy towards the end as well.
When are you gonna upload?
If you're a good young English lad, and you eat all your porridge, wash behind your ears and crack the books regularly, you deserve to have a wife like that when you're 48.
Cor blimey this program is still really dry compared to cats does countdown but Carol is still as hot as hell
why did carol leave? or was she pushed?
Pretty much pushed out. Channel 4 told her to take a 90% paycut, which she was happy to do. But there was some internal politics going on and i think some of them wanted her gone as one of the bosses told her "We have survived without Richard Whiteley, and we'll survive without you" Carol being livid that they brought up Richard like that felt she had no choice but to leave and she has never been invited back since.
@@HalfbrickVHS I’d heard that she was willing to accept a 33% pay cut because the budget of the show had to be reduced by 33%. She was then told she’d have to take a 90% pay cut, on top of which they made that cruel comparison.
@@onnapnewo Yeah that was it. Another casualty of the 2008 financial recession where all channels ad revenue took a hit so programme budgets were slashed left right and centre.

@@ppate8 Oh 100%. Parasites, the lot of them.

Did Des really just say " oh goodness gracious me" in an Indian accent? When a young Asian lad is sat right opposite him? In 2008? Wow, just goes to show what was acceptable just those few years ago, yet would cause uproar today! And just as controversionally, Carol looks absolutely knock out in that dress
So if on an Asian show, an Indian man said 'Oh goodness, gracious me,' in a stereotypical posh English voice while a Briton sat a few seats away from them, you'd be equally upset, am I right?
I'm pretty sure it was a Scottish accent.
It's very obviously a Scottish accent
Rachel was far better and quicker at the numbers game.
