Nice to have an episode posted by someone who has actually been on the program. This really is a great show. I wonder sometimes if it would work in my home country of Canada, because I would watch it a lot if it did air here.
Jon Emeigh there was an American version planned for 1990, but didn’t proceed after the pilot episode was filmed. wiki.apterous.org/Countdown_(American_game_show)
@@amywilson5513 Wow that is such a shame. Though with it being butchered so much I doubt it would have done well. Though hopefully another pilot will be produced sometime soon that will more faithful to the original.
@@jonemeigh5588 unfortunately I agree. Gameshows in the US are so fast-paced, but I love how the UK gameshows are almost a mix of gameshow and talkshow!
I'm with you. They bastardize all the good UK shows when they bring them over. We get "To Tell the Truth" which sucks, and the US version of "The IT Crowd" was the worst piece of shit ever, felt bad for Ayoade for having to do it. Even the US version of Taskmaster was garbage because Lisa Lampinelli used it as a showcase for her new woke garbage comedy and abused Alex.
@@Delivery_Boy_Roy I'll have to check it out. I knew they eventually had to get something right. If they try to remake "Not Going Out" that's where I draw the line.
I just discovered Countdown a few days ago, through comments on 8/10 Cats, which I just started watching two weeks ago, during Covid-19 quarantine, still happening at my home. I'm so grateful for something to keep my mind sharp in these tough times. Congratulations on your performance, and having fun with your brain. I had brain damage for around 17 years, and am really enjoying the maths problems, and now, I'm finding 7 and 8 letter words, up from my usual 3-4. It's been a wonder. I'll never be able to do it in 30 seconds consistently, but I'm getting better all the time. I really enjoyed watching. Thanks for posting!
Am I the only one that noticed Carol introduced Martin a the velvet-voiced VICEROY himself, and then he got VICEROY in the penultimate letters game!? He didn't seem to notice.
i have watched countdown for so many years and still do today quite good at getting the numbers went to watch it been filmed in 2014 when Nick Hewer was the host
NOW IT'S BEEN A DECADE! This is episode 4412 as of Thursday 9th August 2007 in Series 56 & the original episode 4267 was as of the 2nd quarter-final in the Champions of Champions XII.
In the round before the first numbers game, nobody caught "designer" for 8. I'm always a little smug when I get a word that the contestants and Susie miss, but I also know if I were ever actually on countdown I would lose so badly.
Also, I know you were 11 in this, but is it weird that he kept calling you "good boy" like a dog? Maybe it's a UK/US thing, cuz on this side of the pond I'd be super offended.
Are they actually finding the words? I have always assumed a computer finds them and feeds the answers to them and they pretend to have found them. I'm genuinely shocked.

I feel like 2007 was just a couple of years back and then I realise it’s 11 years ago. Crazy how different the world is... just think the iPhone or even proper smartphones only just came out in 2007 or maybe even 2008. Why is time going sooo fast!!
Because we are getting older, my friend. And the older we get, the faster time seems simply because we had a lot of it. Personally, I still think the 90's was a decade ago. >_
What the Dickens is Carol Vorderman up to around the 11-minute mark? Seems to be signalling something to the director via the cameraman, but it looks a bit weird and for some reason they cut it in (possibly it was recorded live?).
Noooo bloody way, literally just popped up on my for you, I literally just finished Birkdale high school lol. Bradley Cates if you are reading this, did you know any of these teachers: Mr. Marshall, Mr. Quirk, Mr. Milner and Mrs. Marshall
I noticed the same. The dress looked very tight indeed; Carol continuously rested on one leg. I felt sorry for her. But perhaps she always did - I just started watching Countdown.
Funny that the first word you worked out was 'Honkers': not sure whether you knew this (you've probably seen it by now), but the first word ever picked on Calendar Countdown was 'Honks'. There's a bit of a link to the past for you.
I think a family member would have recorded it, due to the programme promotions over the credits - a clean version from Channel 4 wouldn't have included this.
Does my solution get me 247? First sum: 25 plus 1 equals 26. Take away 7 and 7 fewer than 26 equals 19. The total of 10 add 3 equals 13. Final step: Multiply 19 and 13 equals 247. 25 + 1 - 7 × (10 + 3)

First numbers game, my solution:
*100* - *3* = 97
97 × *10* = 970
*4* + *1* = 5
970 + 5 = *975*
Did it the same way
Brendan Richards I did it before the timer started the same way that the first guy did it. I suck at the letter game but I am good at number game
Thze number games are a lot easier since it´s almost always the solution with the most possibilities.
Yep same here. Feel like I’d be brilliant at the numbers part but I’d horrible at the letters game. They need a countdown for just numbers
That was the same way, not even going up to 1000 business.
RIP Desso
Brilliant
Brilliant. You did really well.
I just wanted to ask what kind of farkakte dictionary they have, to not have the word "Thankers"? What else would you call those who thank? 🙃
100x10=1000-(3x4x2)-1=975
25x10=250-3=247
10x(100-3)=970+(10-8)=972
Did anyone else catch the proper pervy comment to Carol from des? "I'd love to see you go up and down those steps"

how did you get on the show? help from bradley wals- just joking about the bradley walsh bit
32:11 And I thought I was clever for getting MUSTARD.
They called the dictionary guest a viceroy at the start and then the word appeared later
Is this episode broadcast before or after Grandstand ended?
I wish I was clever - how amazing

Could they be anymore patronizing.
No it's not possible for a person to be very patronising
I felt that they were being caring....
Awesome job dude.
what a clever chap you are! I am jealous
Wow fancy that, an 11 year old young lad winning the game
100-5=95
95*10=950
3*10=30
950+30=980
980-8=972
They could have had dehorsing on the 3rd letters game. Also the numbers games were way too easy.
Looks like he could have been in A Christmas Story
What’s the youngest age that a person can be on countdown?
As of today - it’s age 16.
Yoldeling maybe for tea time teaser?
Did you become an accountant?
I literally said viceroy just because of the v and c, but didn't realise I could spell that...
I really want to go on Countdown at some point. I'm still getting better at letters.
Go you! Well done. :)
10 years on and kids don't know what crosswords are :3

Just read Bradley's blog.
How can they be talking about Dame Shirley if this was O’ Connor’s 5th Show.
First episode with Des O Connor
Actually the fifth.
19:50 I got an 8 nuptials

I was born on that day
He can join Eric and Ernie now.
(25 x 10) - (9-7+1) = 247! I'm cleverer :p
And I got Viceroy at 29:40, thanks to video games lol.
Yeah I wish they did it that way for a laugh lol
I got it because of Star Wars :p
Does my solution get me 247?
First sum: 25 plus 1 equals 26.
Take away 7 and 7 fewer than 26 equals 19.
The total of 10 add 3 equals 13.
Final step: Multiply 19 and 13 equals 247.
25 + 1 - 7 × (10 + 3)
10 take away 1 equals 9.
4 multiplied by 2 plus 100 equals 108.
Multiply 9 and 108 equals 972.
Add 3 onto 972 equals 975.
10 - 1 × (4×2+100) + 3.
100 take away 3 equals 97.
Multiply by 10 equals 970.
Add the 2 equals 972.
Subtract the 1 and add on 4.
I did for the 972 one. 100X10 is 1000
5-3 is 2
2x10 is 20
20+8 is 28
1000-28
30:06 It's mopier or more mopy, but not "more mopier"!
That's why Susie couldn't resist "correcting" him. Though of course if it was good enough for Shakespeare....
This is Episode 4420.
