      That was a very nice thing to say, praise of anothers achievement particularly when accepting one's own inadequacy is a phenomenal strength.. That said, she really took to her image of the "smart man's totty" and, particularly in latter years, to my mind lost a lot of her down to earth appeal

      I remember one game where neither contestant got the answer and nether did the woman at the whiteboard (I can't remember whether it was Carol or Rachael). I worked it out fairly easily. Then a kid in the audience spoke up with the same solution I had.

    • @Nullifidian
      @Nullifidian 6 лет назад +30

      +TheMoonRover Do you watch _8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown_ ? There was an episode that aired on 23 July 2013 where the first numbers round was one that Rachel didn't know how to solve before she was prompted by a man in the audience. (However, he wasn't a kid; he was a grey-haired man in early middle-age.) To give Rachel her due, she figured the full solution immediately just from being given the first step.
      The numbers round was: 100, 10, 7, 5, 4, and 4, with a target of 579 and Rachel's belated solution was (100 + 7) x 5 + (10 x 4) + 4 = 579
      I came up with a different solution and felt quite chuffed about beating Rachel in a numbers round, because I got the answer within the 30 seconds. My solution was (100 - 10 - 5) x 7 - (4 x 4) = 579.

      Makes me laugh too mate, but it gets worse. He once applied for a job at the Merseyside office of the company I work for - I won't say the name - and I had to sift through the applications. I looked him up on Linked In and saw he's mentioned his Countdown appearances in his summary section - as if employers care about that. And he mentioned he has a website where he posts football statistics about everton - as if employers care about that. And he mentioned he suffers from depression and writes blogs about it for Huffington Post - as if employers care about that. I read the blogs they were terrible, by the way. I did some further research and discovered he has another blog page where he writes the lamest blogs imaginable. He even wrote a blog about his Football Manager game with a screenshot of the league table. Needless to say, he didn't get an interview.

      Lol she had an earpiece in her ear for when she gets stuck, you could hear the people giving her the answers on the older recordings, they used a computer program to check. You ever notice how when ever she said leave it with me, by the end of the show it would always magically get solved by her or a member of the audience every single time. Well theres a reason for this. This is also how they know if some sums are possible or not on the odd occasion. I dont care how good you are at maths, if you only have 30 seconds and go down several wrong routes to try to solve the problem then you will run out of time so I believe she didnt get it. Rachel Reilly also uses an ear piece but Susie Dent doesnt, she misses a lot of words.

    100 - 10 = 90
    5 + 2 = 7
    90 x 9 x 7 = 5670
    5670 - 4 = 5666

    500 + 60 + 9 = 569 (3 away)

    5 x 10 = 50
    50 - 9 = 41
    41 + 100 = 141
    141 x 4 = 564
