Great overview! I'll be honest, I'm happy I went with the M18. Mine came with the 13900HX, RTX4080, 1TB SSD, and 32GB RAM, for under $2600 USD. Sure, the M18 is pounds heavier, but I'm a pretty stout and the extra weight doesn't bother me when transporting. As a desktop replacement, I love the price to performance ratio!

I would take the m18 over this any day, I love that 18” screen, it’s a real desktop replacement. When it comes to gaming laptops for me, the bigger the better 😀

Nah... for that price, here, you can get a Legion 9i with better CPU + 32GB ram , much better screen, and well someone prefer light, someone prefer big... Legion 9i IS THE BEST. Just that it depends on which country you are in :) Price varies ALOT!

@@xruud24here's what I can confidently say for the price in America the amount of money that it costs to buy the i9 and 4080 or 4090 is at least in the realm of 4000 USD.
Bearing that in mind the used market is amazing. I picked up an M18 4090 with 64GB RAM and 2TB for 2500$ 3200 at the high end for used.
One thing I like to mention is that out of all of these high-end laptops. The ones that look like crap are the MSI very plastic looking in flimsy for the amount of money. Every other laptop with a 4080 or 4090 looks pretty decent, but the alienware I will have to say honestly is an a League of its own in terms of aesthetics

Add the small trackpad. Unless u r using a macbook, it just generally sucks on windows based laptops, so I think Lenovo assumed that most gamers use a mouse anyway so it doesn't really matter in the end. And I agree, using a trackpad on a win laptop has always been more of a last resort anyway (like when you forget to take your mouse).

Excellent review, mate, and reasonable conclusion. Laptops with such a high price tag need to be near perfect, i.e., there should be no "buts" in the review. Consumers who buy this aren't your regular lot. They truly have money to burn on the next "almost" great device. In Canada, I believe it's a 5K + pricetag. Ya, no! 🙂

Yeah current pricing is insane and I do love this laptop but you are totally right, when spending this much money I shouldn’t be finding really easy things to moan about, I should be really struggling to find anything wrong with it 😀

I mean, it’s kind of hard to really find any drawbacks on this laptop other than the speakers being sub par. I enabled Dolby Atmos on mine and they sound great now. I have the 4090 9i with 64gb ram. The laptop is insane. Sure, a bit on the premium side cost wise but the pros are somewhat easily being ignored besides the obvious. It’s easier to generate a clickbait video to garner revenue off of something innovative with near almost nothing to complain about. Replaced my i9 13900 3090 desktop no problem and I travel alot. An extremely unique powerful laptop and considered the best of the best right now. At the end of the day, that 9i will turn more heads sitting on a table than the others will next to it. Also, you get like $300 in Lenovo rewards points to get other nice stuff to go with it.

I would consider 7 or 7i over it.
You have to pay extra money for the feature that doesn't work or practical. The cooling system mainly works with heatpipes and fans plus big vents. I've seen a channel test it by killing water pump and result is the same.

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  11 месяцев назад +4

Yeah, I ran multiple benchmarks with gpuz running and although the cooling is good at no point could I tell when the water pump was engaging to bring down the temps! I think the 7 is a much better buy, I got mine for £2000 so literally half the price with the 4080 and i9 13900HX so literally all I am loosing is better build quality and features (which they never should have removed anyway, they had them on last years 7 so removed them to make the 9 look better!) I will do a head to head later this week so people can decide for themselves but if I was buying for me personally, I know what I would choose

I think the RUclipsr Dave2d took apart this laptop, and had a look at the liquid cooling system. The problem was, there was no reservoir or a proper radiator to effectively cool down the circulating hot water, only the fans blowing air on the copper tubing of the liquid as it flows around. This meant that there are limits to the level of cooling that this would provide, with the system reaching saturation when all the water is at the hot temperature, resulting in the inevitable throttling.
However, if you are running a game/task for so long as to heat up an entire loop of water, you probably need to use a desktop with a radiator/dedicated egpu itself.

Would you happen to have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 16"? I would like to see a comparison there since they both have mini-LED panels, 4080/4090 GPU config, along with 32 or 64GB of RAM as well. I did some research, and in a weird twist, Lenovo nailed the price in India, as the competitors are either overpriced or unavailable.
The Legion 9i with RTX 4080, 32 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD costs ₹374,736 ($4,528), which feels uber expensive. However, the competition is also more or less the same way:
    1. The Alienware x16 laptop with same RAM and SSD specs costs ₹395,190 ($4,775). The display is not as good as the Lenovo, but the mechanical keyboard might be something to think about.
    2. The Alienware m16 R1 laptop with the same RAM and SSD costs ₹329,989 ($3,987). Again, there is the issue of the display being behind the Lenovo, but the upgradability with RAM and SSD access is again a step ahead. Not to mention the lack of USB power delivery on the Alienware laptop.
    3. Razer doesn't sell in India, and importing anything from Razer global is a financial suicide, as Indian customs would intercept the parcel and levy an import duty of well over 75% of the purchase price at the point of intercept (airport/post).
    4. Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 (2023) is the only laptop which significantly undercuts the Lenovo on the price point, with a price of ₹280,000 ($3,383). But the 2023 model doesn't have the mini-LED panel (it only came in 2024), and the availability of the laptop is incredibly spotty with the laptop routinely going out of stock, and a lack of customization options during purchase, both of which Lenovo India does really well.
So, Lenovo did end up hitting a home run in India, with it getting a good response in India among the elite gaming community.

Lenovo's wave of mega silent firings in early 2023 were absolutely despicable. They laid of thousands of really great people after posting record profits and bragging about moving up the Forbes list each quarter in their "All Hands" NA org sales meetings to those people that moved the needle for them. They ruined thousands of people's lives, especially those that relocated and even bought new homes during the peak of covid when Lenovo asked for their dedication to support and grow the business. Their warranty process is atrocious and considered terrible by anyone who has had to deal with service claims on top of this.

Yeah, I have been very impressed with the legion for the last couple of years. With regards to Alienware, I am not really sure what is going on there at the moment! This years line up is really odd, and where is the x18!?!

I really dont understand why they chose to put this idea into such a small chassi. Why not go 18 inch and utilize the extra space to actually make the water cooling legitimately functional instead of a gimmick? increase the space for the numpad, and the wrist palm rest? I swear this laptop is 1 step forward and 5 steps backward.

@@YoshiIamair so, it is only my experience.
I actually had 2 Legions before decided to get m18. First region had a deflecting trackpad, its replacement had some issues with GPU. Both of those laptops were above 3k and had 16” panels ( amazing panel, but still).
After both Legions came with diffracts I decided to give Dell a chance.
Got m18 ( 18” panel) with 4090 for under 3k. Used some Dell sale discount ($350) and some cash back from my credit card… all and all was $2750…
In my opinion the build quality is much better than Lenovo and the screen is 18” instead of 16” on legion. Also it is a bit cheaper …
My only issue with it , is that the logic board is inverted, therefore, you must take the whole motherboard out in order to change thermals…
Also, do to the screen size 18” it’s a CHINKY BOY!
Bottom line, I think build quality and QC is better than Lenovo.
That is my experience:)?hope it helps …
