Samurai was my first real army back in the Kongregate days, so I'm very much about samurai tactics. Good to see the soulkeeper mention, it's an issue that comes up a lot where soulkeepers are trying to zone out your army, so you can attack them with a samurai stack and force them to retreat. I'm not the first person to use samurai but I'm likely the first to have reached grandmaster with windmage-samurai. Freeze synergy, mention of the samurai draws, samurai forks... The thing to remember with snakes is they're also color locked, so you can block them unless you have a very wide samurai wall. At first, wind was a cheap gotcha team, where opponents who hadn't gone against me before would be caught off by a surprise bishop behind the windmage'd samurai once or twice, but after that it becomes a bit harder to use. Still, in the lategame, windmage helps promote samurai to ninja quite effectively. It's worth mentioning the ninjas. Nobody runs ninja normally, you only ever see them when samurai promote. Ninja can't even attack the king on its own. Ninja+ can't either, it just gets to move to the spot the king would've hidden in anyway. Ninja++ and Ninja+++ are actually better at attacking the king from the backline without support, but... Is it worth the +1~+3 cost to get those ninjas? Maybe, but I'd never, ever have more than one, maybe two samurai++ or samurai+++, it isn't worth the back move usually. why am I typing this, I'm going back to drawing
Yeah, back in my Kong days I would run samurai a lot and in fact was a huge clan user... My army would crumble when I faced an army with even half decent synergy and I'd scratch my 13 yo head thinking why tf did my army get steamrolled.
one time an opponent captured my king, putting me at 0 morale, but a samurai on the seventh row auto attacked their paladin, putting them at 0 morale, and promoted to a ninja, earning me the win. chess battle advanced
