The best would be to add veg and herbs at the end of the cooking, like 30 - 45 minutes before the end of the simmering time. If you like the bitter taste, go ahead and do it the way is shown in the video but if you don't, then it's better to add veg at the end.
I used my slow cooker for 17 hours, very mellow taste, also at the end added ground fresh ginger and lemon juice. Delicious! Roasted the bones for 5 minutes on each side beforehand. Added 1 whole onion cut in half and full head of garlic cut in half, celery, carrots, bay leaf.
Add oxtails for better gelatin. I was losing my hair and started bone broth and my hair loss has nearly stopped. Its liquid gold. I have 2 slow cookers on the go right now with beef bone broth. Added carrots, onion, garlic, celery leaves and stalks and a teeny bit of spice. Literally, its better for us than medicine.

I roast my bones in my “instant fryer” for 25 minutes at 325 degrees Then transfer everything into my 10qrt “instant pot” set for 20 hours DO NOT PUT THE STEAM RELEASER ON THE POT THIS way you can open and stir your bones and veggies from time to time if you wish! I cook everything together for 20 hrs bones 🦴garlic 🧄onions 🧅 Bay leafs 🍃cabbage 🥬, celery🌱,carrots🥕, parsley 🌿 And my broth doesn’t turn out bitter 😊 At the meat market I buy Bision🦬 Elk 🐃 and Dear bones to make Vinisen bones broth 😋
It's a little weird that a keto channel tells readers to remove the precious grass-fed bone mallow oil. Tell me next time you cook, I pay for your leftover oil .
I suppose I've been doing it wrong or do it for another reason. While you make broth, what do you do with the left over residue? Do you throw them away or do you eat them? We do something very similar, but it's not for the broth, but rather the otherway round. The bones from deboned carcasses which contain the marrow or whole chops, ribs, pork hocks or trotters even bacon bones. It's all done in one pot or crock pot and eaten as a meal. We call it boil up in New Zealand.
You need a bowl sized colander. Much easier to strain large portions that way and you have both hands free with no worries of a colander mishap. Also garlic cooked for long periods and then pressure canned can cause bitter tasting broth. And lastly since your a Keto channel I’m very surprised you didn’t mention keeping the fat scraped off the top of the broth for cooking or even just add it back to the broth. That’s very good fats for you.
@@savannahmcgill61 the point of keto diet is to keep your carbs low to stay in ketosis, as if you were fasting. you don't eat as much fat as possible. you eat just enough of the right fats to keep your energy levels up while staying in ketosis. beef fat is pretty unpalatable compared to coconut or avocado oil, and too much fat in the broth tastes super gross. people been making broths for a long time,
Richard Shapiro well when in ketosis your body no longer runs on sugars it runs on fats, so fat is very essential, I’ve been keto for a while and avoiding fat is not typical at all for a keto meal or food item, as many other comments are pointing out. I get what you’re saying about not just going around and eating sticks of butter or anything, but when heated up the fats would be pretty emulsified and nicely rendered. You refrigerate most soups, or even a steak and and you will see any of the liquid fat solidify, people usually eat that and it’s great. Taking all of it out is questionable for the diet I think. Shouldn’t have kept all of it, I agree, but he shouldn’t have taken it all out.
He says beef. Most grocery stores sell “beef marrow bones” or “broth bones”. Most of the time they’re the thick bones like a femur. Sawn into 2-3 inch pieces by the butcher. Just ask your butcher for red marrow bones or broth bones.
there are no "good" fats in beef. it's mostly saturated fat. which is fine as an energy source but it lacks all the essential fatty acids. you need to get fish oil, flax oil, krill oil, stuff like that, to get the "good" fats. second, the collagen dissolves into the liquid, there is no collagen in the fat when your done. I suggest reading fats that heal, fats that kill by Udo Erasumus, its the "bible" of good fats. understanding what fats are good for what is important to human health. good health and vitality to ya!

I call a good fat something that is completely healthy and balanced, you can live well on it for a lifetime. beef fat does not hit that mark. but hemp oil does. I eat sat fat but I look at it as fuel, not full nutrition. you don't have to agree, but that's why I and others will call certain fats good fats.

I don't find it weird. It makes the broth a lot more manageable, since it doesn't have a lid of fat on every time you try to get some broth. If you have it in a mug you can just get a scoop and sweep it up. If you wanna drink the broth in a fasted state you are now free to do so as it has virtually zero calories. The fat can be used later for frying, throwing it away is a huge waste of course.
I think that they may be saving that fat for other direct purposes, but yes to throw it away, tragic. But, IMO, they are probably going to use it for frying or something else. Combine it with Almond flour to make a keto crust?? Something like that.
1) You can do this much much faster in an Insta pot.. 2 hours on low pressure/allow total natural release approx 40 mins. I would asigilate (soak) your marrow bones for 45 minutes in an inexspensive red wine, while your other bones are roasting in the oven. 2) Use flour sac cloth to filter/pour your completed bone broth through. 3) use a fat seperator - this makes the end product much nicer. Decant and save that fat - Tallow is an awesome bi-product to use for future cooking. 4) Refrdigerate over night - should be nice and geled by morning. I have made several batches this way in an instapot and they come out beautifully. The beef bone broth you buy at the store..almost never contains any of that super high nutritious collegan gel! Why? Because they scrap that off and FD it and then turn around and sell at Powdered Beef gelatin for more money! Too bad too.. cause that stuff is that absolute nutrition bomb! So make your own. Most Store bought/commerical Bone Broths have added sugar.. and you dont want or need that. A few may not have it, but they are often very exspensive..way over priced.
keep the fat, great for cooking with or spreading on bread to eat, give your dogs a little a few times a week and when you initially baked the bones why didn't you get the patches of oil on tray into the saucepan ?
My Philips multicooker is my best friend. I set it on high for one hour and low for 7 which is overnight and another 7 which is the length of my work day. So I get about 15 hours cook time in or more if I Nick a batch after work and let it boil for another 7 hours
Just bought 2 lbs of bones fr Whole Foods at $8 a pound = $16. Got 3 pieces that looked like on this video. Beef bones are expensive. So make a good batch even with 3 pieces 😊😊😊😊
Here in the UK any good butcher will give you bones for free. I just made a batch of broth from chicken carcasses. Roasted for 30 minutes first and got enough meat off at that point for curry and a pie, before making the br.oth. I got 6 pints of thick jelly after only 8 hours .
$8 a lb!! That's expensive. My local butcher sells for $2 a lb. And it's grass fed beef bone. It used to be free but bones are in such demand now. Try going to butcher shop it may be cheaper or free
My local Whole Foods sells them but you have to ask the butcher for them. Also, some local organic grass-fed farms that sell to the public also sell them although you may have to ask. You can also go with US Wellness Meats if you can't find anything local. They are online and will ship to your door.

Why would you take the fat off?! That's crazy. Also, I'd lose the carrots. They're useless. If I have to cook this for 48 hours, how do I do that? I'm not going to leave my stove on overnight while I sleep! I guess you can cook it in shifts?

It's way too fatty. I'd had eating the marrow though instead of discarding it. The fat can be used for other purposes of cooking

I have never thrown out celery leaves. If not used in the dish at hand, they are great salad ingredients.

Yes. Beef broth gives tallow and chicken gives schmaltz. Great nutritious fats for cooking with.
You can freeze it or keep in fridge up to 1 week.
I suppose we need to keep on adding a lot of water during all those hours, right?

Caramelize the bones in an oven to create a more deeply rich flavor profile. You can skip this step, but the flavor will be less intense

Once you get it assembled and stabilize the simmer you can ignore it for 24 hours at least.

Why would you take the fat off?! That's crazy. Also, I'd lose the carrots. They're useless. If I have to cook this for 48 hours, how do I do that? I'm not going to leave my stove on overnight while I sleep! I guess you can cook it in shifts?

This fat is full of omega 3 and many benefits. If you or on Keto, u should have kept it instead of adding ghee to the broth when u drink it
