    It hurts me when we refer to Tim Hardaway as "Tim Hardaway Sr" as a teenager in the '90s. Man. I remember when Tim Hardaway was a young gun coming up in the early 90s...he was SOMETHING. AND Healthy young Penny Hardaway was something else...haha.

      And that's the truth. I'm a Jordan fan and Penny. I just love 90's NBA. Knicks fan of course and love Ewing and Starks but Penny did give Jordan and Pip problems in the short time they all went at each other but we just fans talking.     People have no idea how good Penny was. A little bit of Magic Johnson + young Kobe Bryant. Athletic, entertaining, dropping no look dimes but could posterize big men too. Plus the media was behind him with those Lil Penny commercials. He was not right up there with MJ because MJ was an absolute master at that time but Penny could easily ...EASILY become the face of the league.

Who knows what else he could of evolved into. He didn't average as much as Jordan but he could drop 30/40 when needed. Same can be said for Grant Hill, Rose, Tmac etc.
      On NBA Inside Open Court on TNT They did the 90's episode and Grant Hill was on it and the other former players on the panel said you were better than Scottie Pippen and Grant you could tell appreciated but said himself "Scottie got 6 rings I don't"

    Kids born in the 80s remember how big Penny was. Penny was cold, great player. Definitely up there. Wouldn't quite put him on Jordans level tho...But popularity wise he was definitely up there with Jordan with us Kids. His unique name and skills made him super marketable.

    We know Penny was not as good as Michael Jordan, just like we know TMAC wasn’t as good as Kobe, but there was a time when TMAC was in Orlando, and if you said he was better than Kobe half of the room would agree with you, in the same way back in 1995 people were like penny is going to be better than Michael Jordan, And a lot of people would agree with you, it wasn’t a crazy thing to say that out loud. just by the eye test he was just better than everybody else and would make people look stupid on the court… plus he was highly marketable with 10,000 different commercials back in an era where all kids did all day was watch TV.. plus he was the number one selling jersey in the league

Kevin Durant is my guy, used to play ball with him and I know his father, so I should be biased in this argument seeing that he and I are from the same place and we take pride and what we do which is destroy people in the basketball court, however, the best version of Kevin Durant was the second championship of Golden State, he was at the peak of his powers, you have to put that version of 06 Kobe…AKA 81 points kobe…

      He was highly respected and regarded among his peers and the fans. Behind Jordan he was the 2nd most popular player from 95-97. His shoes did well and his commercials were legendary.

Scoring, Penny had Shaq, the most dominant Big in history, Grant Hill was the main option on his team. Penny’s offensive package was just as lethal as Hill’s was, and he was better at the 3 pointer than Hill.
