  • Allen Iverson officially announces his retirement from professional basketball on the eve of the Sixers' 2013-14 season.
    Say goodbye, A.I.
    Allen Iverson officially retired from the NBA on Wednesday, ending a 15-year career during which he won the 2001 MVP award and four scoring titles. Iverson retired in Philadelphia where he had his greatest successes and led the franchise to the 2001 NBA finals.
    Iverson says he'll be a Sixer "until the day I die."
    The 6-foot guard had not played in an NBA game since Feb. 20, 2010, and had a brief pro stint in Turkey. He also played for Denver, Detroit and Memphis. Iverson scored 24,368 points and was an 11-time All-Star.
    Former Georgetown coach John Thompson and former Sixers great Julius Erving were in attendance for the ceremony.
    Iverson says he always thought retirement would be a "tragic" day. But he says he's happy in his personal life and at peace with his decision.

    • @ggffgg100
      @ggffgg100 10 лет назад +2

      Because of the way he played he would always need the ball while surrounded by spot up shooters like how the Miami Heat are right now. He just never had another go to player during his prime.

    • @lebron6shez
      @lebron6shez 10 лет назад +1

      pick and rolls needed too be set up for HIM and not the other guys

    • @ggffgg100
      @ggffgg100 10 лет назад +2

      lebron6shez I wouldn't go that far. Kobe during his 5 championships was either the first or second option and even during the last 2 he was the third option. AI passed the ball just like Kobe has been doing but the teammates AI had would always pass up shots

    • @lebron6shez
      @lebron6shez 10 лет назад +1

      yeah but i meant to say in regard to when kobe got the laker by himself so he became that guy.
      but yeah AI had terrible teammates thats why he did that

    • @ggffgg100
      @ggffgg100 10 лет назад +2

      lebron6shez the Kobe situation was different. For years after the 3 peat he had garbage teammates. Most were too scared to even shoot in my opinion

    40yr old man still dressing like a teenager. If A.I. just practice one full season and listen to Larry Brown, he would have won a ring. Instead, we get street ball playing in a nba game. The guy took more shots per game than Kobe.

    • @KingBorium
      @KingBorium 10 лет назад +1

      How? A leader, A closer, Defense first mentality, Pass first mentality, Team first mentality, makes everyone around him better on offence and defense, can take over a game by himself, can give his teamates energy, can create his own shot, can shoot the 3, get to the free thrown line, play and defend every position.

    • @jimmyleppard6
      @jimmyleppard6 10 лет назад +1

      He's not a leader, he's never been a defensive player of the year cause he isn't a top defender at all, passing? Are you kidding me? John Stockton without a leg still moved better and passed better than LBJ at his best nights. Most importantly, he didn't (and will never) elevate the game. MJ did it before him and Kobe were even around, Magic and Bird did it before Jordan, Worthy, Oscar Robertson etc. did it before them etc etc. LBJ is like Adele of basketball. Sure, Adele is a great singer, but she doesn't stand out, she doesn't elevate the music like Hendrix did.. Like Elvis did.. Like Michael Jackson did. That's why LBJ or Kobe will never be anywhere near MJ, Magic, Bird or those other guys.

    • @KingBorium
      @KingBorium 10 лет назад +2

      You do realize that LBJ is a walking triple double right? and holds the NBA record for most consecutive games with 30+ points while holding above 60% FG

    • @jimmyleppard6
      @jimmyleppard6 10 лет назад +1

      And like I thought, you are clueless and just throwing out numbers.. You don't even realise the magnitude of what Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, James Worthy or guys like Oscar Robertson, Wilt and Kareem present and what they created in the terms of an impact to the game of basketball and the basketball community. It's sad really and utterly disrespectful towards them to even mention LBJ in a sentence of that value. Have a nice day.

Hat to the side,baggy clothes and long chain looking like a fool.He never was professional his his career,a thug with money which he mostly lost.Too many black athletes just dont get it.His career was short in the NBA because of his attitude,Practice we talking about Practice,remember that interview..get a suit loose the hat and be professional in your apperance which he never was....Thug and Millionare don't mix....

      xavier miller You sound like the typical dude in north philly BOUT basketball . What it is allen trying to get people to feel sorry for him. One question why do you think the 6ers got rid of him ? why do you think every where he went he did not stay to long? Do ya think maybe because no one else touched the rock after allen the answer to that is he is a gunner. Poor allen everybody is picking on him. What about fan appreciation night allen was pouting and that other massive piece of shit c. webb i believe as most people do NWA . listen to him once again he is crying because of his corn rows. HE WAS MVP ,SCORING TITLE EVERY THING . ALL HIS TROPHYS WERE INDIVIDUAL { THAT MEANS JUST HIM ] HE HAS NO GOLD ON HIS FINGERS NOW DOES HE. POOR A.I. NOBODY UNDERSTANDS WHAT HE WENT THRU. BUT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS IF HE DID NOT HAVE SKILLS PLAYING B-BALL HE WOULD BE IN JAIL. BUT YOU COULD SAY THIS ABOUT 75% OF THE NBA.sOMEONE CLOSE TO ME TELLS ME THAT ANYTIME ALLEN CAME DOWN TO GAMBLE IN ATLANTIC CITY THERE WAS NOTHING BUT OBNOXIOUS IGNORANT PEOPLE THAT WAS WITH HIM AND TO TOP THAT OFF THE MOST IGNORANT WAS MOMMY IVERSON. THE ONLY REASON THEY LIKE TO SEE ALLEN COME TO THE CASINO IS BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GAMBLE ON ANY LEVEL AND THEY ROBBED HIM BLIND EACH AND EVERY NITE HE CAME TO GAMBLE. LAST QUESTION WHY DID ALLEN GET BANNED FROM MORE THAN A FEW CASINO'S BECAUSE HE WAS NWA

      DO YOU, BE PROUD AND STOP HATING ON PEOPLE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT OR NOT TO YOU LIKING :)
      I live in a free country where I can say whatever comes to mind...
      I don't agree with people who bash AI or anyone in general for not looking "professional". What does that really mean? His job was to excel as a basketball player which he did. His uniform is his work attire. Telling him or anyone what to wear off the court is simply modern day slavery. "we will pay you millions but you have to dress and speak like we do because we don't like ghetto, hoodlum, or anything that we can't really relate to or see eye to eye with".
      AI was not the most charming person but he did his job well (amazing player).
      Basketball was a sport (yes I said was) now its a business... That's a whole other rant...
      I respect and admire A.I. as a player. I do not concern myself with how he dresses, where he comes from or what he chooses to do with his money. He is a grown man, shouldn't he be "free" to do what he want's (legally of course)?
      the above rant is for Orlnz bo and Coyote 023.
