Can't stress this enough. The difference between playing 10-minute quarters to 12 minutes quarters. Forty minute game versus 48 minute game is massive. Bigger than people realise. In the NBA you can be up 17-20 points in 3rd or fourth quarter and STILL loose! In FIBA that 2 minutes less allows teams to keep it close with the USA, the moment they drop their guard these nations will go at them. A lucky bounce or call here and there, before you know it, out of time and the game can be lost. Teams can throw in junk defences, traps, set-plays and keep opponents guessing. This can keep lower ranked nations still very much able to win games, that look on paper like they are unwinnable. I love FIBA how players don't get special calls, all basketball should be ref'd this way.

South Sudan, just like many African teams, bring more than basketball skills to the court-they carry the hopes of an entire continent. Their mission is bigger than the game itself, which drove them to come so close to victory. 7:08 I think Ant's foul might have been missed especially considering that weirdo explaination of the Shai foul to end end the Mavs-Thunder series even though at the basket this type of action where the swipe goes from ball to wrist is rarely called at the basket probably because there's usually a crowd and sight lines are limited. From the angle you showed, it looked like he got hand and ball and then more of the wrist, but it's not egregious. I thought that was pretty good defense at the end.
You were right to point out that Team USA kept failing to get back all throughout the first half and only cleaned up for the monster run in the 3rd. He was badly turning the ball over a few minutes into the game. He’s out there setting moving screens on smaller players, lowering his shoulder into them, and not getting called. He stands there like a statue on defense. He gets blown by constantly. He does NOT “always make the right play” like he claims. He almost always needs the ball in his hands to be successful, which just hurts the entire team. Worst of all he’s not a leader at all. That’s why this team is so underachieving. While here in today’s America; AAU and high school don’t teach kids, it’s just organized pickup. And then only going to college for a year because they can’t go pro straight out of high school. And then of course the modern NBA rules that cater to a high scoring style of play that let players get away with a lot. Even added defensive 3 seconds so now centers can’t park in the paint. The original Dream Team definitely had less competition but it doesnt change the fact they were way better on almost every position and physically, athletically there is no comparison. All this talk of modern players being so much physically better than older generation is biggest propaganda of all time. Lets compare. Ant vs Jordan; like seriously Jordan in 92 had his man body and was on serious weight training regimen for years at that point and he could jump as Edwards and was taller. Lebron is this physical specimen yes, he is the only one that wouldnt stand out but is of older age now and saves himself on defense. The rest? Are we seriously gonna even put White and Tatum with Pippen in same sentence? Embiid and Davis vs and Ewing and Robinson? Adebayo vs Barkley and Malone? The Dream Team was physically imposing and intimidating, they were crushing others because of that, not skill but pure athletic and strength advantage.

We all hear it from these “analysts” “some on the dream team couldn’t even handle the ball or shoot” obviously they are referring to those guys - all 4 could shoot from the perimeter (but the 3 but from the outside) all 4 had varying levels of handles (Barkley & Admiral had terrific handles for their size and styles) and all 4 had zero issue finding open guys. All 4 knew when to help when and where to help in D. Perimeter weren’t cutting, catching a pass and scoring at the rim against the Dream Team. Embiid gets exposed all the time. Talented guy - but this team USA would trade him for any of those 4 guys without hesitation. He has zero awareness.

I can will a team of scrubs to a win simply by outhustling, outfighting, outwanting from minute one to minute done, fouling and pounding and beating up on these better players, forcing them to cry and bitch and inspiring my team to play as if their lives depend on it.
Great players almost always relax against teams they are supposed to beat. I have lost many, if not most of the games I've played with the odds so stacked, just like this, but I have won a small number of truly memorable games by imposing my will on teams and players that were vastly more skilled.

First off, I love all the players on the roster and think they deserve to be on there. However, I feel like a lot of their skills at their positions overlap too much. Let's determine the ones who are needed the most first: Lebron (leadership), Steph (handling, scoring, leadership), KD (best USAB player ever, scoring, leadership), AD (best versatile big), Embiid (biggest big), Adebayo (best versatile defensive big). After that we need some more guards specifically for defense and/or shooting so we have Jrue Holiday and Derrick White who both can guard 1-3 easily. Then we have backup playmaker in Haliburton.
The problem is we have too many backup scorers in Booker, Tatum, and Edwards. Tatum I get why because he's the tallest and can play 2-4 but we don't need both Booker and Edwards. I'd take Edwards over Booker for this team as well as he's a better defender and willing to score in the paint more so that just leaves Booker, though if it were up to me I'd replace both of them but the NBA wants Edwards to be a face of the league so wcyd?
I'd replace both with the best 3&D player we could find that doesn't want to dribble or hold the ball for more than 2 seconds and another big if AD/Embiid gets injured/foul trouble. for the 3D id go and beg OG Anunoby to renounce british citizenship (LMAO) or Jaden McDaniels. If you want a big that is a better perimeter shot I'd go Myles Turner (yes, over JJJ because JJJ is a worse 5 than Myles, he's best at the 4) or a big that will hustle, box out, catch lobs then Jarret Allen would be my choice.
Honestly we wouldn't have any discussion on this AT ALL if Kawhi and Paul George didn't have injury concerns, Klay didn't fall off a cliff in all aspects of his game this past year, or if Nike didn't have a stuck up their ass against Jaylen Brown as the lineup would have been too talented and feel like 2012 again where it didn't matter who we played or who is what position.

This is my starting five for the USA to be effective.
    Steph
    Jrue
    Lebron
    KD
    AD
I put AD over Embiid just because AD has just been so good defensively. He can switch matchups, unlike Embiid. He's quick, agile, and a rim protector. Embiid has been a target for being slow and hinders the defense for he would do the drop coverage on a pick and roll, where other teams could exploit in pull up 3s. I also put Holiday on the starting for his perimeter defense. On the 3rd qtr against South Sudan, his defense was the game changer that led USA to take the lead at the end of the qtr. It just balances out, offense and defense. Since their main problem right now is their defense on their starting five. Lack of box out, lack of ball pressure and quick rotations.
    Second unit would be
    Ant
    Booker
    Tatum
    Bam
    Embiid
Again, Ant and Bam as their Jrue and AD. And the Tatum and Embiid can also provide some defense. But all of them can do the offense also.
