My mental & physical health are absolutely terrible right now and I’ve been close to some very, very dark choices. These videos are quite literally my only solace some nights. So calming and interesting and I get fully absorbed in them. Thank you to the whole HGP family ♥️

Please know that despite how it might feel, things will be better if you keep putting one foot in front of the other, just hang on even if it is day by day or even minute by minute. I have been through dark times myself, often and even when I find myself struggling again, I don't regret that I managed to hang on. I'm proud that you are seeking things that help soothe yourself and I wish all the best for you.

Ok I haven't had Dexters but I have had Australian Lowlines, another small breed of cow. And to stop them from having too much space in the crush I hang a car or motorbike tyre beside them in the crush depending on how big they are. Dexters are a bit smaller so you might need 2 one at the shoulder and one on the hip. I do this when AI-ing them. I hope you can use this Idea or modify it for little cattle in the future

I found your channel right after my mom died back in January and your videos are one of the few things I have had to lean on to hold on to my sanity through the grief.
I don't have cows or trim hooves but it is so interesting watching what you do and how much you care for the animals themselves. Your videos are such a welcome and wonderful distraction from what I am going through I just wanted to say how greatful I am for the bright spots that never fail to brighten my day some.
Thank you and bless you and your family in all you do.

    • @jenniferlehman326
      @jenniferlehman326 Год назад +16

@@SandraNelson063 Who me?? I do teach riding, and I train both Handlers and Dogs for Search and Rescue, I also train the Handlers on how to start an IV to administer fluids to rehydrate someone who has been lost for over 24 hours. I'm certified to do that. And therefore am able to certify them as well. I was a Paramedic for 37 years. Right now I'm training 2 young horses for riding with the owners riding them after I ride them first. So they get used to the owners hands on the reins, not only mine. But I teach the owners to use their seat and legs then hands to ride. I also, right now, have 5 mares in to me, for me to deliver their foals. The first one is due late December and and the last one is due around my father's birthday in April. So I'll be sleeping at the barn on an army cot in the tack room with a military grade winter sleeping bag. I'm there just in case there is a problem. I don't interfere with Mother Nature, but if the foal is large and mama is having trouble, I will glove up and go into the stall, and working with her contractions pull the foal, usually with chains placed very strategically on the foals legs so I don't hurt any tendons or ligaments in the foals legs. My S&R team of 8 in Banff are all ex-military personnel. They all suffer from PTSD. But to be around the horses, they've realized they have to be calm, as well as around their dogs. Especially on a Search. You want the dog focused on the game of "hide and seek", not worrying about his Handler. If the dog is only half focused on the Search and half focused on his owner/Handler, the dog becomes ineffective at doing its job of searching for the missing person. This team alone, my Banff team, rescued 12 people. I'm so proud of each and every one of them for the demons they have conquered. They told me at the start of training, that yes, they had PTSD, yes they had been Medically Discharged with Distinguished Service, but the Veteran Hospitals can only do so much. They all stated that they can't work, but wanted to contribute to society somehow. This was perfect for them. We're able to utilize the mapping skills they learned in the military and put it to good use in our search efforts. I also trained a team of 8 to work here in Ontario. They work Algonquin National Park. Again they use both dogs and horses. Horses when necessary, usually in the winter, as they can cover more ground faster. They too, are former military. They saved 16 souls this year, and brought one home for burial to his family. He suffered a major heart attack and had passed away long before my team reached him. The Coroner said he was dead before he hit the ground. When this happens, everything stops. We call in the authorities right away. After the scene had been cleared, the Coroner gave my team permission to bring the body out to the van where the family was waiting. They were so grateful to us. They gave us gift cards for meat, as we make our own dog food. We make it into a kibble and dehydrate it. This way we know what our dogs are eating. And it's not a lot if chemicals. I hope this answered your question about if I teach or not. A little long winded I know, please forgive me for that. Have a great evening and upcoming weekend!! Jenn 💖

I’ve never met a Scotsman in Canada that didn’t pine for home; it’s because Scotland is so rugged and beautiful and it settles in to the marrow of your bones.
The first time I arrived in the countryside of Wiltshire England… I felt as though I was home; it’s was a remarkable feeling …it’s as though your soul suddenly awakens and remembers where your roots are, and where you are supposed to be.
There’s definitely a connection and attachment of a person’s soul to the lands they have been before, perhaps in other lifetimes. This cannot be denied; some people are dumb to this, and I don’t mean that in a derogatory sense , I mean that they’re just not as attuned to their soul as others or they are unwilling to accept what they’re feeling or have numbed themselves to paying attention to those innermost feelings, their intuition, their gut feelings because they think they’re nonsensical.

Such a beautiful place where you live! Each new drone shot is more beautiful than the last. The farm itself seems as if it’s being hugged by the nearby hills and, as you take in the view, you can literally feel the stress melt away! That says a LOT given I live in Washington, USA about 1-1/2 hours away from the Pacific Ocean. If you’ve seen the movie “Twilight,” than you know we have serious pine forests! We also have amazing, blue lakes, fruit orchards, wine tasting and cows!!

When we holidayed in Girvan, we always took the long route through the Galloway forest from Gretna and back, it took hours, but we were always rewarded with the fantastic scenery.

You start by hand or from the ground up... bless his soul he's been gone for 2 years now and every time I start something new I start by using my hands and then build knowledge... I love this channel thanks for creating this channel for us!

Love watching you. No matter what. Wish I lived there. It’s so beautiful. My Father was Irish. Idk if Irish & Scots still don’t like each other. But I feel fortunate to be part one of them. Idk why his parents came over to US. They all died before or shortly after I was born. So sad. Your work might be hard. I can’t imagine. But it’s good honest work. Not like so many these days. You obviously like it. Save so many creatures from pain. Bless you for it all! 😍

This has to be in the top three of my Hoof GP video favorites--I'm sorry that Dexters don't need much hoof trimming meaning you don't think you'll be returning. Those cows are adorable escape artists trying to dodge the crush (comic relief) and the countryside is beautiful. The one cow who didn't want to leave the crush seems to have enjoyed her spa visit! And I hope that the last cow can be helped with antibiotics and whatever else can break down the pus in her ankle so it can be drained. Thanks for a great video--one of your best!

My mom used to try to talk me into keeping a Dexter in my garage. Glad she didn't succeed, cause I didn't know anything about cows feet back then. I can't imagine the constant standing on concrete would've been good. So glad to see you taking care of those smaller feet just as expertly as usual. Keep up the good work, and good to see Mrs GP out there with you.

Mrs. HGP also lucked out in attracting such an honourable , kind , good looking man, who’s a hardworking, innovative , loving husband and father… and a good provider too....….Even if his hair gets unruly as it grows‼️ But, eh, that’s what hats are for…yes?

The people from whom I purchased my farm were Dexter breeders. They used them for beef. I think it’s awesome that they are dual purpose cattle. They were about 2/3rds the size of most regular cows and about 1/2 the size of angus.

As someone who has lived with Dexters for almost 20 yrs, I couldn't help but laugh when watching three people try to put one cow in the crush. These cows might be small, but they are feisty and have a mind of their own when it comes to what you ask them to do.

Suggestion. To make the sides of the Crush narrower, try a 6 inch (or more) FIRM Foam Pad, and Tape it to the sides with GOOD tape. That should be a simple 'fix' for those small cows. =)

We went to a party a few years ago and the hosts had what we call in the US and Canada a "hobby farm" They had a medium sized veg garden, some fruit trees and berry vines and 4 Dexters! They were indeed smaller than these kids but also that deep dark chocolate color and total flirts! I fell in love and didn't spend much time at the actual party because I couldn't get enough with those little cows. Just outside their pen their owners left a small bucket of some dried corn coated in molasses. They told us we could give each of the cows small handfuls to nibble on. I did that, of course, and afterward they each "rewarded" me with soft licks and a little suckling. I was thrilled to see you tend to those Dexters on this episodes. Thanks for reminding me of that warm, sweet summer evening, 🥰
