I love how they give the hammer a really comedic-looking action to hopefully increase hammer players. Because to my knowledge the hammer is not as popular as many other weapons usually.
Hammer mains are a cult. The hammer has been the best weapon in the last few monster hunter games. People who play hammer get it, those who don’t play it don’t get it.
Unleash your inner Mary Poppins!! The Bladed Wagasa also has some high mobility/flight options you may have forgot to mention. Parry has some extra utility/offense potential. For example if you do the basic Spidance (Square/X) combo in the air then parry (no incoming attack necessary) you can reset your combo and do it again and again. I think you can get 4 full spindance combos in the air without landing doing this. (If you parry and spindance on the ground its a much more powerful combo.) After a parry (again no incoming attack necessary) the lunge attack (Triangle/Y) will launch you in horizontally (in air or on ground) and much further than the other lunge attacks. This can be followed up with another lunge or a powerful spindance. Also after the parry/lunge if you do nothing you will float down kind of slow like Mary Poppins.
For my Hammer Bros out there... You can get so much rotation and mobility with the hammer if you keep extending and swapping between the Aerial Y/Triangle > Extension> Aerial X/Square (Centrifugal Attack) > (Land) Extension > Y/Triangle (Back into the air for mobility) . You can basically move wherever you want whilst staying semi airborne and it allows you extra time to rotate your camera towards the opponent and then convert into your finisher when the opportunity presents itself.
I usually prefer playing defensively because I'm bad at dodging, so when it turns out that the umbrella is the most aggressive weapon in the game, suffice to say my fight plans need to be changed.
Feel like this game would benefit from atleast two more weapons. Definitely some type of shield &weapon focused on blocking/counters for my tank players. Also wish they made the giant shuriken transformation for the staff it’s own weapon. Could be a cool melee/range hybrid type of weapon with chargeable throws and some quick melee combos.
yeah would be interesting. from what im gathering the umbrella is similiar to lance so i'm not sure if they would make another weapon based on tanking. though having one for countering would be sweet! I really want a whip type of weapon like a Kusarigama
@@crazedmonk8u having two tank options isn’t overdoing it lol. I don’t think it’s like the lances from mh you can just hold your block with lanced and pretty much be invincible. The umbrella parry looks to be solely timing base. The umbrella seems to be way faster than the lances.
I think the Maul is going to be a sleeper weapon. I have a feeling certain Karakuri will do some crazy cool damage depending if it's hit by the Maul. That, and Maul can have utility by slamming some of the structures out of the way instead of taking the time to break them down. Playing Solo, I've found that recklessly placing structures can be pretty hazardous. Looking forward to what people do with all these weapons.
Very, very very good video. The first impression I got was that there were just light attacks and heavy, no real intricacies, I'm glad i was so wrong lol
Wow learned a ton from your guide on the nodachi. Thanks. I just been holding my attack the entire time and I didn't know springboard replenished stamina. Thanks for the tips
Quick follow up tip from a fellow nodachi main, the torch attack has a followup by pressing either attack button that can be comboed into your heavy swings. Using both while charging builds half a bar instantly and can set up for an incredibly powerful level 3 combo: Fire 1 Fire 2 Heavy Swing, Light Swing delay Release Charge. Since the torch only costs 1, its also a very cheap way to cancel the recovery of your charge hits without wasting stamina or threads.
If you use the great sword and alternate between pressing x and y, you'll do fast swings! I just found this out now. Combine this with holding right trigger until you fill up your gauge and it's insane how much damage you can do in a short amount of time.
yeah I want to main Umbrella but leaning towards hammer and great sword, just alot simplier to use. from what i seen Hammer is probably going to be the most popular since you don't have to use a guage, you can hit your big number combo whenever you want. Second would probably be great sword- can already see 2 different builds for it 1 of those being a quick draw ish build with fast charging. crit draw coming back baby!
Yup and the Cannon is very similar to Rifle in Toukiden and when the Karakuri Katana transform into whip its very similar to chain whip in toukiden too
Yeah same developers as Toukiden. i treat it as Toukiden 3. Enjoyed both of them, shame it never took off so it was mainly a solo experience so looking forward to this one!
Do the weapons feel balanced? Just looking at the damage numbers and how fast attacks come out, it looks like the karakuri staff is strictly better than the katana, for example
I've been able to get similar hunt times with all the weapons. Katana unbound can do some insane damage, and while staff has the biggest singular attack I know of, you need to build all the way up to that.
Well, lets put it this way, you have Katana, which is really straight forward, you slash them a lot, then u have meter so you can slash them more with higher power and a slight boost to range, then there is the staff, that has some incredible moveset and the hardest hitting three part combo woth full meter, but to get there you have to know the moveset of monsters when and where to go in to deal damage and also get the timing right on spot... So for me for example is Katana better, because i can spam attacks, dodge spam again, but with the staff i feel like im not doing any damage because i am dumb, and don't know exactly what i am doing 😁
So many cool weapons.... I havent gotten much playtime in and just made it to the town... I was excited about playing with the umbrella thing... now claw amd blade. They all look amazing... I don't even know what I'll play
Apparently I still didn't know how to play all the weapons but now I can. Thanks for this tutorial. I learnt how to properly play the weapons I was playing wrong 😁
Great video! Hopefully the patch to fix optimization comes soon. That Spindance combo is bait! Barely increases gauge. In my opinion it's only there as filler to keep gauge from draining. Best way to build Wagasa gauge is parries(like you mentioned) but aside from that it's Crate attack and Trey Star. Trey Star is also your highest damaging move when gauge is at least yellow.
Either some description or video made me think at first that the staff was like the insect glaive... seems like the umbrella is a little bit closer to that, but not a fan of parrying. Claw blades however look hella fun!
Just pointing out you missed the highest MV move the Wagasa has, which is Trey Star. Parry into attack for the finisher, doesn't require you to be hit.
Yeah I discovered that one along with a couple other since making this, this was only meant to be an introduction to each weapon though I plan on covering the more in-depth stuff like that ability in each weapons dedicated video but I'm waiting until I have unlocked all the basic karakuri so that I can make a recommendation usage of those as well per weapon, for example the katana and the hammer both get a new unique attack with the stake
love the Wagasa, was disappointed in the Karakuri.... like if the attack that consumed gauge was maybe anything.... but just a giant sword...... i don't know that just felt like wasted opportunity.
@Justin Gill I found that combined with the karakuri spring s (the karakuri spring follow up attack chains into the iai sunder slash) it allows for some very aggressive and safe plays (extremely safe compared to what the umbrella provides) similar to monster hunter longsword counters. I think it's a pretty important part of the katana for continuous damage.
Pretty much every weapon being described as "Unga bunga" lowkey puts me off from this game even moreso than I already was. It comes off as incredibly hack and slashy with little care for precise combo timing, outside of maybe Odachi and Maul, but even then.
