A bobcat that stays in the center needs to be "tamed" to at least not stress out at the presence of humans. They also train the cats to do actions on command to help with cleaning the cage and medical checkups. Cats for release do NOT get clicker training.
@@MsChashar You cannot domesticate an individual wild animal. It's a myth. Domestication must be done with a large group and many generations. The best you can do with a wild animal is tame them to accept humans in their lives, but they will *always* retain their wild instincts and can be dangerous, even if you hand-raise them from birth. For example, when wolves evolved into dogs, the first wild wolves who were somewhat friendly with humans were not domesticated. They simply learned that being less aggressive towards humans could gain them access to food. Those wolves reproduced with each other, and the next generation became a bit friendlier, and as each new generation made more offspring they slowly diverged from wild wolves as they became increasingly friendly and then dependent on humans until eventually they were dogs, but those early generations of "friendly" wolves still had all their wildness and could still be dangerous, just like the Bobcat in this video.
4:32 That vibrating tail or 'rattlesnake butt' as we call it when our boys do it. That greeting speaks volumes about his care and treatment. Thank you for all you do, BCR.
It is sad to here Flint is not releasable, but luckly he has the support of the big Cat rescue to ensure he has the best life possible. Thank you for all you do, I know the cats are thankful for the amazing lives you provide them. I will love seeing how Flint grows into a majestic adult.
It seems he would have died if BCR hadn't found him. He seems to have special needs and was left by his mom. So sad. But that sweet little baby was found by the best people he could hope for.
Thankfully he's very cooperative so he's not risking injury when he has to transported to treatments and now outside. That little darling is a real charmer, he's going to get a lot of attention. Stay strong little one.
I love his temporary "low roof" enclosure to ensure his continued good health and safety. Just a guess, but I'd bet his loving keepers put that together since he was seen yesterday - in less than 24 hours. Kudos and love to all of the keepers and cats!
This is my first time getting to see Flint outside. I'm so happy for him! I thought I heard Malachite calling to him when he got out of the carrier. Love you Flint!
YAY FLINT!! I AM SOO HAPPY TO HEAR YOU ARE FEELING BETTER!!!Thank you Big Cat Rescue for taking such great care of these animals, with such kindness and compassion , especially those with special needs like Flint.I have been waiting to hear a update about him.THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS INFORMATION.!!🐾🐾GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU AT BIG CAT RESCUE AND YOUR SUPPORTERS,AND ALL OF THE ANIMALS AT BIG CAT RESCUE !! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO.🤗🤗😄😄👍👍
Flint is such a handsome boy. He is so fortunate to have the care at Big Cat Rescue. He appears to be very relaxed and easy to work with. May he live for many more years! Bless your whole team of people, including volunteers for all the love and care you give these magnificent animals. Thank you for helping so many animals in need. Have a wonderfull weekend! Best wishes, Dianna and Grayson (peering over my shoulder) Maryland
I was thinking how cute Flint was when he was in the crate, getting the treatment. When I saw him outside, he was just adorable! What a sweet little bobcat. That said, very nice gloves...just in case! Thank you for all y'all do, and for sharing.
What an absolute sweetheart. I love him. There's just something about him. I'm so glad you saved him. I hope in the future he can be released, but if not at least he has a fantastic home. You guys are the best!! ❤️😻❤️
Thank you so much for the update on 'Flint'. It is unfortunate that he can't be released back into the wild but, at least he found his way to you and will be well taken care of. I think in the wild he would have faced a slow painful death by now. God put you in his path for a reason. Angels for the felines of the world 😇🙏🐅 (sorry couldn't find a Bobcat emoji 😊)
Thank you for helping Flint get healthy and taking care if5 him. He has beautiful eyes! How amazing that he goes in and out of his cage so seamlessly, good boy!
We are here for whatever he would need, but it make take as long as 5 years for his bones to change and may cause more issues. There is not a whole lot we can do now since he is not full grown.
Happy Tuesday Flint & all there at BCR!!! Thanks for a behind the scene tour of what's going on with Flint for right now. Two questions. Do you think Flint knows, or sees, that there are three other bobcats in the outside area he gets to be in for those few hours a day? And have you seen Flint taking a nap when he's outside yet? Great video Afton!!!
I am assuming that he is non releasable. If that is the case is he going to be a permanent resident of BCR? I love how he goes into his crate on him own. Wish that my dogs or cats would do that.
No, bobcats are not usually friendly, but Flint is exceptional. Baby Flint was retrieved from dogs hunting wild boar, and Big Cat Rescue wanted to try to help him reach his potentail as a wild bobcat, so he could be released back into the wild. For information about Flint, use this link to find out about his background and his progress. bigcatrescue.org/flint/
The kittens are usually unbearable at his age, but he has needed special needs since we got him, and he loves going outside so much, he loads right in.
Seems Flint was born with some defects which got him abandoned by his mom, and left to die. :( Thankfully BCR found him. I think he knows they saved him. Which is why he seems so trusting with them. What a sweet baby.
As I understand it, as long as he's a rehab, he formally belongs to the state of Florida. But if he's deemed to not be releasable, he will most likely be transferred into BCR's care, yes. After some red tape and forms being filed. That's partly the reason for the check-up, documenting his status for the legal procedures.
Gosh, seems like he's alone a lot. Does he ever see any other cats? In his indoor room, he's alone and in the outdoor cage he's alone. That's a lot of isolation. Hearing the other cats is very helpful but I hope he also gets to spend time with actual eye contact as well. (maybe I've missed videos when he's in the presence of other cats or within viewing range??) 👍 But you all do a great job and I know they appreciate it. ☀️ Have a great day!
It wouldn't be safe to introduce him to another cat, and they don't want him moving around too much. When he gets a bit bigger and healthier, I'm sure he'll get a permanent enclosure.
He was even secluded from the other bobcat in rehab. He's slowly having the wild taken out of him. Ten weeks in isolation what does that do? He's out in rehab now, We'll never know how he is doing except for selective, random updates form the keepers. As they no longer have a camera on him, all these people in the comments will forget him and focus on another cat that's on a camera.
Seeing as it sounds like he'll be at BCR for life, if he's going to be going back and forth between places as an adult, it might be a good idea to train him to go into the carrier on command using food rewards. Because when he's an adult, a twitching stick isn't going to be as tempting to him.
Precious Baby, and Smart Too!!! Why was there so much water around them when they were loading him into the golf cart? Was it flooding from Dorian? Just Wondering
That is just how Florida is in summer through October. It has been a long time since I lived there, but it used to rain every day at 4pm...you could set your watch by it. ;)
@@bigcatrescue Thanks for the info, I'm glad you didn't have flooding issues from Dorian, you guys were on my mind, Love BCR!!! :-) Wish y'all the best!!!
@@bun04y Thanks for the information!!! It's been a while since I was in Florida too, but now I know that next time I visit I had better keep an umbrella handy, especially at 4 PM :-)
Poor little fellow. I hope he gets well enough that he can spend the rest of his days outside in one of your large enclosures. I notice you don't talk around him. I thought human silence was only for bobcats that were releaseable.
When transporting cats, why do you cover them so they can't see where they're going ? I've found they seem much happier being able to see what's going on.
I'm surprised y'all haven't made a room say 10' by 12' with 2 feet of it being cut off via a cage door and wall. Where keepers/interns can prepare and put food into his room. And having a hole in the wall of the 10' by 10' section to the outside of a 10' by 20' caged in section. letting the door be controlled from the 2' section. an old shed or new one if you can buy one and put next door to the hospital. would be a good start to something like that. I admit. I'm surprised Flint went into the carrier so easy! barely needing to be coerced. guess that's more his age than anything though! still such a good boy... think he realizes that y'all are trying to help him.
The fact that he's not aggressive or hiding from humans would be another sign he's not releasable
A bobcat that stays in the center needs to be "tamed" to at least not stress out at the presence of humans. They also train the cats to do actions on command to help with cleaning the cage and medical checkups. Cats for release do NOT get clicker training.
Sadly yeah, he looks like a house kitty at this stage
I agree!!!
Wow, a self loading Bobcat!!!!
I read "self-loathing" and I was like: "Oh, just like me." 😄😄😄 lol
I wish my "domesticated" cat would go in the carrier like that. lol
1BadCat mine also it’s like a wrestling match to catch them and cage them for a vet visit
Seriously 😅
thankfully my kitties are little piggies whi can be tempted with treats lol
Mine only goes in from the top. Never through the door haha
Exactly my thought. I even move the carrier and if they see it you would think I was carrying some hideous monster. *laughs* They would all scatter.
He goes right in his crate?! What a good kitty!
Yeah, that really surprised me.
I know! I wish my cats would do that.
carschmn he is domesticated already

Compared to all the other bobcats we've seen here, Flint seems rather calm and easy going.
Must be a Conservative if he's happy and relaxed.

It seems he´s too human-friendly and trusting already to be released, or are bobcat kittens in general this cooperative at his age?
That's a question I would also like to know the answer to.

The cats generally like the darkness, it seems safer to them, and the movement can stress some cats out.
