  • My longtime hero Hansheinz Schneeberger passed away in the fall of 2019. Just a few months before that, at 92 years old, Hansheinz shared with me how he got to premiere two of the most important violin concerti of the XXth century. Béla Bartók's violin concerto No. 1 lay forgotten for 50 years before Schneeberger performed it in 1958, and Hansheinz explains the back story behind it. In 1952, he introduced Frank Martin's violin Concerto to the world with the Kammerorchester Basel, commissioned and conducted by Paul Sacher.
This is the second gem of many that I recorded with Hansheinz in 2019. There are more to come, so please subscribe.
Hansheinz Schneeberger was an incredible force of nature, a deep soul and a passionate man. I was lucky enough to meet regularly with him since I was 16. We worked on many violin pieces and even gave concerts together. I miss him dearly and I am happy that Swiss photographer (and amateur violinist) Christian Meuwly and I recorded this interview.
Hansheinz, whose mother tongue is German, graciously spoke to me in my native French. I have subtitled the interview in English.
