I really love how the chords in the Chaconne become something like really precise trills when played on the flute. Combined with the lightness of the solo flute, it makes it sound pensive, like someone with very conflicted feelings trying to decide on a course of action. It feels less aggressively tragic and more lonely.
To those who were wondering (and to Jasmine + Ray if they ever see this): Badinere means "Joke"! Thats why its so fun and humorous! It's actually not even a dance at all haha
Love this! I think we definitely need a part 2 (and 3, and 4!) haha I'd love to hear Ray play carnival of the animals - the aviary, symphonic metamorphosis 3rd mvt, the Nielsen concerto, and so many more! :)
My brother has a friend that friend that is going to a cello competition soon and like soooo many people were in his studio in tonic and listening to him😂But his dad is a cello teacher and me and my brother went to his house and listened to his dad and OMG SO GOOD.I trust my brother’s friend that he will play like his dad one day❤😊
PPS,My best friend in the world who has been best friends with me for almost 12 years plays the flute. Me:Yay good job 👏 Her:I need to go on Tonic and open a studio 😅
i'm super happy rn cuz im doing badinerie for my set work in music and my teacher forced me to sightread the flute part on my violin and i always had to change positions so seeing ray do this made me feel so much better
Although Jasmine said she didn't meet her expectations on playing the Brahms concerto, i got so addicted to her playing and listened many times, especially the first few bars. It was so powerful. Hope Jasmine will play the whole piece somewhen.
Ysaye's 'Obsession - Prelude' is one of my favourites - so nice it ended up in this "fight". I've got one word for the video: CUTE... in large part due to the cats... 😉😸 (joking of course 😆) This is such a friendly way of showing people they should dare to search for inspiration beyond their standard repertoir and make their music experience even more wonderful that way! 😃 (And I need that long-legged-🐢 emoji NOW!!!😹😜). Thank you both! 🥰
There are certain aspects and techniques of the flute that are more flowing than the violin yet it takes more bow control and emotional feel like summoning something and it's more exhausting . I'm not a violinists I'm a noob recorder begginner. But dang with flautist you gotta have lungs of steel and for violinists needs more antidepressants and therapies appointments for frustration
Lol, I've been learning the Chaconne in the *piano* version (by Brahms) for at least the past ten months. You two are mighty impressive. I really think you absolutely aced the Chaconne for a first sight-reading.
One of my favorite pieces is tempered steel by Charles Young. I played it high school but was a difficult piece. The song as a whole is gorgeous ride. The flute is beautiful. I played clarinet tho but did eventually pick up the flute for fun.
Ciaccona played on flute sounds so, so familiar... I swear I've heard it in a Japanese 'Samurai' movie before played on Shakuhachi flute... or a piece that sounds something very similar to it. Oh, now I remember, not a Samurai movie, it was Bruce Smeaton's scores for the movie, The Iceman. My goodness, that sound and piece just really gets you deep inside your soul, to your core and heart. If you've never heard it before, check it out. I know you'll love it.
Love the analogy so much. Even I made a typing illustration like this "In music, we have an *[idea]* of how it will turns out and we want to *[playing]* it. the *idea* is like... ▲ (here) * gap * * gap * * gap * * gap * * gap * * gap * * gap * at the another part, *playing* is... ▲ (here) so far, right?! So, here comes *[practice]* that shortens the * gap *.... from the *idea* with some *practice* to the *playing* ▲ (like this)" Tattadaaa 🥳
The flute seems to adapt to the violin works easier or maybe Ms Choi is that great! Also perhaps the violin pieces are better known for flutists and flutists have been playing transcription of violin works quite often, where as Ray does not know any of the flute works. Accidentals are also harder for the violin. Speed is easy for flute. Ray probably should choose a violin piece that has very very long legato lines with no room to breath for ms choi
Now do it on the piccolo…. I had the HARDEST time learning to double tongue, triple tongue and flutter tongue on the piccolo…. I’d love to hear you do it too!!!
This is cool! I mean sight reading is normal but not a totally different instrument. Violin and Flute are the most difficult ones. Maybe you too can compete with another instrument? That would be fun.🎉
Would be really useful for them to make a video about common hand musicians problems and how to manage them - like carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, trigger finger, etc.

You should try learning Caprice #24

bruh ray forgot about vivaldi summer!
No but Jasmine playing the violin chords is another level!
I know! It’s absolutely amazing how she nails those chords!
No. He plays much better than her. I don't think she is very good. She also says flutist not flautist.
You know that chords are infinitely easier to play on a wind instrument than on a violin, right?
@@PreservationEnthusiastthe flute can only play one note at a time,so you have to do it like that
@@PreservationEnthusiastIf you think she is bad, then try to do better than her? Hmm? Can you do that?
Hearing this woman articulate at the speed of god gives me a smirk every time, its just so flute savvy 😂😂
I know! she’s one of the most talented musicians i’ve heard!!
Now I really want to hear Ray play Chaminade
I was waiting for this…
I was so waiting for Chaminade
i thought for sure it was going to happen but it didn’t😢
@@impractical1158 There will always be a next time.
Thought the same hahah
Ray being shocked at every single piece and his eyes being wide open as he plays is so funny 😭
13:34 Ray so cute to play the low note for Jas❤
He loves her
cute, funny, a little bit of friendly banter

Watching Ray's reaction to Jasmine slay every piece was so funny. And Ray did do great too. Love them both ❤💕
i feel like they should have been seated the other way round so they deafen each other less lol, also less chance of hitting the other while playing
yeah, I agree
But where’s the fun in that!
To those who were wondering (and to Jasmine + Ray if they ever see this): Badinere means "Joke"! Thats why its so fun and humorous! It's actually not even a dance at all haha
This is incredible. Never before have we been able to listen to world-class musicians from even our homes. Huge internet and computer W.
You can see they are both competitive, which makes it fun. Guess you have to be in order to perform at their level.
Love this! I think we definitely need a part 2 (and 3, and 4!) haha I'd love to hear Ray play carnival of the animals - the aviary, symphonic metamorphosis 3rd mvt, the Nielsen concerto, and so many more! :)
The animations had me dying 😂
YES, Syrinx. My wish has been fullfilled 😀Thank you!
Jasmine playing Bach Chaconne OMG this is so beautiful. Hope to see a full video someday!❤️
As a flute lover I go for the flute but the Ray chan violinist changes my mind now 🤩🤩
My brother has a friend that friend that is going to a cello competition soon and like soooo many people were in his studio in tonic and listening to him😂But his dad is a cello teacher and me and my brother went to his house and listened to his dad and OMG SO GOOD.I trust my brother’s friend that he will play like his dad one day❤😊

Speaking of violin/flute they should’ve played that one arr. of Bach’s double violin for flute and violin 🥺
oh wow that chaccone opening chord is so heart wrenching on the flute.
The last one was amazing. Sounds like something fun to perfect! Maybe as a back and forth between the flute and the violin.
Ysaye's 'Obsession - Prelude' is one of my favourites - so nice it ended up in this "fight".

I laughed when I saw Jasmine’s out-of-body animation😂
You read like an angel. Debussy is awsome in the violin, loved it!
When Ray sightreads he looks like his eyes are about to fall out :D

Besides the delicious music, the production values of your videos are so great. Fun challenge today; I enjoyed it immensely!
so beautiful! I always am in awe with you and ray! such magic, humility and fire to compete ❤❤❤❤❤
I'd love the surprise of chant de linos being put in front of Ray
I love how at 6:54 ray says that ruining sound
The edits are insanely fun and beautiful 😂 it's so very nice seeing you both together like this❤ more of similar contents like this please....
Yes! I love these repertoire swapping videos!

They going to marry
Imagine if Jasmine had to play the 24th Caprice.

So much fun for us watching too! Thank you Jasmine and Ray! And by the way, flute won!!! 😀
Ooooh Syrinx is lovely on Violin!
Wow, this was the strongest Badinerie ever! 🤯
I love the editing style so muchhh
You are very good at deciphering pieces quickly !
Fun video! Who ever edited it with all those effects did a really good job
WE NEED CHAMINADE AND MENDELSSOHNS MIDSUMMERS NIGHT DREAMMMM❤❤❤❤
8:45 her soul gave up on her after playing all the chords😂😂😂
They're both cool and its good classical musician share this videos
wow i can't believe ray knows debussy
Lol he know dePussy it’s his favorite . He mentioned it
I mean, how masterful are you both though? I'm impressed, as someone who immediately gave up on trying to sight read 😂 this looked fun.
Very inspirering. I never seen the fast notes on flute as a chord. Interesting.
Oh, I wanted Ray to play the very beginning of Libermann sonata. I believe it sounds good with the violin.
One of my favorite pieces is tempered steel by Charles Young. I played it high school but was a difficult piece. The song as a whole is gorgeous ride. The flute is beautiful. I played clarinet tho but did eventually pick up the flute for fun.

My fav part was Brahms Violin Concerto part. It was intriguing enough while soothing out my aching ✨
Edit: That was a perfect pick to end the video
I feel like tonic sponsors are the classical musicians rick roll

I didn't know there were absolute madlads like this on flute🤯💀
오?? 엄숙한 현악 버젼 샤콘느만 듣다가 플룻이 하는건 처음 들어보는데 너무 신선하네요? 첫음부터 약간 소름 돋았습니다... 너무 잘 들었어요
'you actually seem more bahroak', Ray 2024, 'Baroque', Ray 2023 and everything else!!!
Bravo, maestros!
They both are amazing ! ❤
Ray you should give jasmine the slow part in Brahms first movement
This is awesome please do more!
I would love to hear Ray try Chaminade's Concertino.
WOW!! VERY GOOD!! MUY BUENOS!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA 🇦🇷🇦🇷🙆🏻♂️🎼🎉🎉🙏🏻🙏🏻
You have great musical chemistry.❤❤❤
Can't wait!!!
Syrinx makes my soul sing. I play it all the time. 😍
Best video I’ve seen on RUclips for a while
“You know Debussy right??” 😂😂
I love your charisma and your charisma and your violin. Brazil oiara.
Love the analogy so much. Even I made a typing illustration like this

I feel like there is some sort of connection going on here. Ray seems quite nervous, like a middle schooler at a semi formal.
So excited!❤
This is cool! I mean sight reading is normal but not a totally different instrument. Violin and Flute are the most difficult ones. Maybe you too can compete with another instrument? That would be fun.🎉
8:27 she’s looking at us.
Would be really useful for them to make a video about common hand musicians problems and how to manage them - like carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, trigger finger, etc.
The tonic plugs r always so funny to me
Jasmine, you are amazing
Good work editor👏🏼👏🏼
Once he heard her play Debussy, he nailed it 😮❤
You should definitely collaborate with twoset violin
Hebrews 13:8 KJV
[8] Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Ship these guys! They’re lovely ❤
amazing musicians !!!
Very nice. I'd like to hear tico tico no fubá, next time.
Violin is a good combination with flute.
Just wondering, what brand of flute do you play Jasmine, it looks so beautiful!
I want ray to try all these pieces on flute😂😂😂
Can Jasmine do some flute review content and talk more about what flute Jasmine r currently use right now and the tones colors and all.
Not ray listening to jasmine talk about ‘this app called tonic’ like he didn’t co-found it 😭
11:30
Ray's face=😱😵
Great video !
Ray questioning his existence haha
6:22 ... sounds like Chloe Chua might be able to do that XD
