    Great video, this is a little off topic, but I noticed you have nice edges next to your landscape beds, I'm changing our lawn shape, and need to create new borders. We live in Palm Springs its hot and bermuda is the only option. it likes to send out runners, what's the best way to keep the edges under control. and how to start the seeding in the shape you want.
    Thanks

      @GarageGear  4 года назад +1

      Robert Belknap great question Robert and thanks for compliment. My edges are simply carved out. My wife actually did those. It’s her thing. Lol. My guess is that with yours you will need some kind of brick/concrete barrier. Or else Bermuda will grow right through the edges and take over. Bermuda is the alpha male grass and it will male carved out edges look like normal in about a week or two. I think a small line of bricks or decorative edging will be your best plan of attack. Thanks for watching!

    Great video, instead of a striping kit attached to my lawn mower, could I use this instead? Maybe at only 1/4 filled with water? Because of the weight, it seems like it would do a better job at striping.

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  3 года назад

      This is an interesting idea. The striping kits for most mowers are only about 20 pounds or so. Those rollers when full are about 300 pounds and could create compaction in the soil. At 1/4 of that weight you’re still at about 75 pounds so I probably would go with less. Thanks for checking out my channel!

    I can’t emphasize enough how much effort it takes to push this roller. Luckily, I’m only rolling 800 sq feet of sod. I had a small grub/gopher problem a few years ago that was under control quickly. After a few years, some of those gopher tunnels collapsed underground and cause dips in my lawn. Although this roller helps, in my situation, you will need to slightly overfill larger dips in order to benefit from a flatter lawn roll result. Keep your core tight and back straight while rolling. Otherwise, hire a landscaper to do this job.

    Advice please.
    I'm thinking of tilling my entire backyard, 50ft x 50ft, then rolling it with one of these, to resolve the unevenness that has developed over the years. Also will seed the soil at the same time.

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  4 года назад +2

      koyotee koy I don’t think it would be necessary to till the entire yard. If you have low spots you could just level them with top soil and roll your entire yard the process. You could seed before you roll and once the lawn is level how you want it. This way the seed is making good seed to soil contact. Let me know what your thoughts are on this.

    My lawn is so so bad bumpy. Very difficult to run a push mower. Due to a lot of tree root mostly. What do you think if I roll it then aerate soon after?

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  4 месяца назад

      Hey Susan! Rolling and aerating is a great thing to do for your lawn. As far as the tree roots go perhaps you could chop some of the bigger ones out that stick out more. Rolling the lawn will not help this situation. You may also consider leveling you lawn in those areas with more soil and bringing up the soil level to cover those tree roots. 👍

  • @mr.l6982
    @mr.l6982 5 месяцев назад +1

    Do you recommend rolling the yard before or after aeration?

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  5 месяцев назад

      Two ways to look at this my friend! Roll first pack everything down and then aerate to relive the compaction. Leave the cores on top to help with the seed bed. Option 2 is to aerate, seed then roll to create good seed to soil contact. I’ve always rolled first on the past with plenty of success! 👍

      It’s kind of a simple design. That same shaft is used for tractor hook ups. Mine tilts a little too. Just tighten the bolt down as tight as you can. Thanks for watching SJ!

    Use caution when rolling around steep slopes, especially if the roller is filled to capacity with water!!
    Worse case scenario: if it gets out of control, just let go...it will come to a stop eventually.

      If you are using the claw traps, makes sure you open up a hole in their tunnel with the pressure plate directly over the opening. This way the mole will come to the light to push dirt back over the hole and set off the trap. Worked like a charm for me after trying the manufactures directions failed and killed all moles that ravaged my backyard and my neighbors.

    What a joke. The roller won’t smooth small bumps. First it’s plastic and it deforms. It is used for pressing seed into fresh dirt and To use after top dressing

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  4 года назад +2

      a z hey there, the roller will level some small bumps in the lawn but not really large ones. The plastic on the roller will not warp. It’s really thick material. It’ll take you forever to wear it down. Thanks for watching!
