Persevere guys! Complete beginner here - I made a staff out of a wooden dowel + hockey tape for $10 the day after I saw her "make your own staff" video, accidentally hit various parts of by body a few times while practicing, scared my cat by dropping the staff loudly on the floor, and overall felt the classic frustration of a steep learning curve from *not knowing anything* about a skill to *being able to do one basic skill.* After about 4 days of practicing for a few minutes at a time throughout the day, I can do this skill smoothly & quickly and it feels great! Thanks for these videos Michelle, u a queen

This was so helpful. I’ve been learning bo staff for 3 years now (via youtube), and my one hand figure eights are fast but hard to control. Staff size is a little shorter than I am. I actually learned from Jake Mace (which I now see why he’s gotten a lot flack for his channel) and I was teaching myself 80% of the time instead of actually learning from someone else. A few days ago I received the steel collapsible bo staff and I really enjoy it. I’m gonna subscribe definitely and relearn my basic forms though. Thank you for the clear and precise instructions. Best bo staff video I’ve yet to see. (And I’ve seen at least 100.)

I believe she’s using a 4 foot dowel stick. I’m not exactly sure what type of wood she’s using in this video but she has a separate video on how to make your own bo staff and she went to Home Depot and got a 4 foot dowel stick. I got the exact same length for the dowel stick to practice this forward 8 and the length she’s using seems to be 4 foot long because it looks identical to mine.

Ever since I was in middle school (I'm 24 now) I've been dancing with everything I could find. Staffs, curtain rods, ect. All of it self learned and taught. It's nice to find a professional that teaches what it is I want to learn - I can only go so far teaching myself. I tried this today - ended up giving myself a goose egg on my forehead. XD But I'll keep on practicing! You've really inspired me to take this habit I started as a kid and become serious with it.
