  • We love DrZ and their Maz amps, so when we heard they were bringing out a MKII of this superb line we knew we had to do a video on it!
    In this video Jack runs through the Maz18 NR head and John runs through the Maz38 (with reverb head).

    Just wanted to say that this video was the one that made me pull the trigger on my first Z a few years ago. I think I have 5 now. FANTASTIC playing and tones, and I think it's still the pinnacle video for this amp.

    Reverb is now like the Fender type, really big improvement!!!!
    Boost “EQ BYPASS” with its own volume control is a fabulous addition!!!!!!!

    Bought my Maz from Peach years ago, and the old version is amazing. I still think "wow" when I plug into this amp. Sounds huge, brilliant with single coils or humbuckers, takes pedals brilliantly. Thank you Dr Z for your great amp and thank you, John, for your great recommendation.

    I bought my Maz 18 nr head about 3 years ago & it’s been my go to since. It came with a matching 1x12 convertible cab loaded with an Alnico Gold. The Maz & the Gold are a match made in heaven. I’d love to try this new mkII version as you guys make it sound outstanding. Glad to see the Dr. fixed the effects loop issue. I run a T1M active buffer & it works like a champ.

    I finally pulled the trigger on a Maz 18 MkII head and haven’t regretted it for one second. This amp is not necessarily for everyone - it doesn’t hide any gaffs or flaws in your playing - but what a tone machine! Outside of the metal genre, the Maz can do anything you have the skill to do and make it sound like a million bucks! I have no problem saying that I am a Z fanboy.

      Loud?

    • @jerryhorton5708
      @jerryhorton5708 3 года назад +1

      @@BenLubin - Yes, very. This is the loudest 18W amp I've ever played (for the record, I haven't owned an amp over 30W for a very long time). This amp is more than sufficient to play clubs of any size I've been in without additional reinforcement and will more than keep up with a heavy drummer. In my opinion, about the only argument to be made for going to a higher wattage model such as a Maz 38 or Z-Wreck is the need for more headroom at stage volume. To be honest, I've yet to run out of headroom on the Maz 18 because I just stick a mic in front of it when I need more FOH sound.

      @@realtruenorth Good question. I actually have both the Max 18 MK II and a tweed Blues Jr. But I can't really answer you as I don't play either one of them "clean" and always have a more dirty tone going when I play.

    Waffle on. When you have good content, waffle on. My Z experience started with an 18NR well over a decade ago. The versatility never ceased to amaze me. After I got my Galaxie, I traded my Maz for a Carmen Ghia. If I ever start playing out again, the new model 18NR will have to join the collection again, no doubt.

    My Maz 18 jr has a lot quite a bit of hum to it, even with proper power filtering. Are you guys using a noise gate suppressor? You have zero hum in the demo, even with single coil pickups.

    These sound good! I’m tempted to trade in my remedy to pick one up. Can you get the 38 at reasonable (smaller gig/club) levels, I like having the higher headroom available but always found the original maz38 to be way too much

    • @sean1strozyk
      @sean1strozyk 4 года назад

      I had the 38 SR for a long time and always struggled with the volume. Always too loud. The sound I wanted was the power tube saturation coming from the master volume knob, and it started to come alive after about 12-1 o’clock. Absolutely amazing sound! But your ears would bleed. Anything lower than that, the cleans are spectacular but the gain suffers. If you crank the pre amp “volume” knob while the master is below 9 o’clock, it sounds weird and fuzzy. I ended up building and portable iso box for it, and that solved the problem. But it’s kinda a pain to haul around. Sound guys at smaller clubs love me though. This time I’m going with 18 watt.
