    Norway isn't just a big producer of crude oil & salmon, but also glorious black metal, atmospheric black metal & symphonic black metal. Dimmu Borgir is the crown jewel of Norway's symphonic black metal.

    Spektrum are u ready for a symphonic metal evning with dimmu borgir tonight.

    If you liked the female vocalist, her name is Agnete Kjølsrud, and she's had a couple of bands of her own: Animal Alpha (now defunct) and Djerv. Although her bands are heavy, they're more alt metal than symphonic metal. You should check out Animal Alpha - "Bundy" or Djerv - "Headstone."
    Great reaction!

    Great lyrical analysis! Please do more Dimmu Borgir reactions in the future. Any of their "Forces of the Northern Night" live performances are really high quality. So some specific suggestions:
    DIMMU BORGIR - Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse (LIVE - FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT)
    DIMMU BORGIR - Mourning Palace (LIVE - FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT)

    Great reaction to a great song, that I like! I think, Alena nailed perfectly the lyrical meaning of the song, for me it's definitely aimed at Religion as an enslavery of human spirit and freedom, and it is definitely is from a perspective of Devil/Snake creature to the human kind. Maybe, it is also interpreted by me this way because of the genre (most of Black metal texts are anti-religion or viewed as ''satanists'' in some way).

    Great reaction.
    You should react to Epica. They are a symphonic metal band. They have soft songs ("Cry for the Moon" ,"Once upon a nightmare" or "Sancta Terra") or more aggressive songs ("Consign to Oblivion", "Kingdom of Heaven").
    If you want to go in more extreme metal, I would recommend Fleshgod Apocalypse "Epilogue". Fleshgod Apocalypse is an Italian symphonic death metal band.

      I agree it's too early. Epilogue will be I think the best way to introduce her to the group thanks to the operative party.

    I have no idea about the context of the song but there is one about the name. It comes from Dimmuborgir (dark castles), a lava field in Iceland with some folklore attached to it, like the 13 yule lads who are the icelandic "santa claus" live in a cave there. No joke en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimmuborgir

    I have been waiting for you to react to this, Alena and Brad. 🤪
    Fun to see your reaction and hear what you think of Dimmu Borgir. This is a cool performance, and nice start. You should do the "The Serpentine Offering" was a "Girlfriend reacts", because I know you have heard that before, Brad.
    You wondered what they said (in norwegian) in the beginning. not much interesting, but something like this:
    "Oslo Spectrum, are you ready for a symphonic metal evening with Dimmu Borgir tonight?"
    "Are you ready?"
    "Next song is Gateways."
    "Then you maybe can guess who we have with us tonight?"
    "None other than, Agnete from Djerv" (band)
    I wonder how we can get you to say the name correct 😁

      @jwalldal 4 года назад

      @@BradAlenaMetalReactions Well, I was hoping she liked the orchestra and choir, and the show they have around the concert.
      Not sure if there is a good live on "The Serpentine Offering", and the video is old on the official. We have to dig a bit for you, if that will be interesting.
      Well, only Nordic talking people normally say their name correct :D So no worries :)

    Your video list is missing some Epica, which should be right up your alley if you can go with this and like Nightwish

    • @markfrancis6886
      @markfrancis6886 4 года назад +1

      You can pick pure beauty, epic and brutal, or anything in between. They are heavier but also I think more orchestrated than Nightwish.

    • @markfrancis6886
      @markfrancis6886 4 года назад +1

      Try Chasing the Dragon and Design Your Universe, both from the retrospect show to give you a flavour. Possibly DYU first. Same show also has Sancta Terra with Floor from Nightwish guesting. Simone and Floor also sing Stabat Mater Dolorosa together, which is not metal, but spellbinding in its singing

    Alena nailed the meaning of the song to answer the question is the songs are written from a Pagans perspective, based on pagan world view and the battle between the Saxons and the Vikings. Very common theme in Norway a lot of Norway, not sure of the actual faith of the people in the band though they could be pagan or athiest though they have never said either way. But plenty of pagans like them and consider them part of pagan culture s they at least don;t offend pagans but Christians often hate DImmu Borgir.

    The root of black metal used to be an opposition and rebellion of christianity, but over the years it has evolved into theatrics and atmosphere. This song is actually pagan.

    I've never been able to get into Dimmu Borgir really. I like a lot of what they do melodically, but the costumes and the voices... it's kinda like they're trying to do a parody on all the bad stereotypes of the genre, except they're actually serious about it.
