I think it was this show that was prodcasted on Norweigan state television. I like to think that summerizes why Scandinavia (and Finland) is so big on the metal scene 😊
Totally agree with you: The song starts out good, and then just gets better and better throughout, ending with an amazing finale! :D Dimmu Borgir is actually a 30 years old band now. They started as a black metal band, and transitioned into symphonic metal. This recording was from Oslo Spektrum, pretty much the largest concert venue in Norway, and yes, they sadly do frown upon mosh pits there. :P The female vocalist is a guest appearance. She's Agnete from the band Djerv, which is a very different sound, a lot of it probably not even being classified as metal. (But certainly good music!)
On a side note: The woman singing on this song may be familiar sounding for many League of Legend fans, as she does the vocals for this game promo video (for the character Jinxed) - ruclips.net/video/0nlJuwO0GDs/видео.html
Dimmu are children of early Norwegian black metal and this is the vocal sound that was common. Very flat and very gritty in lack of a better word (I'm Norwegian and suck at English) Funfact, early NBM music was very "flat" when it came to production. Almost like a wall of distorted noise. Purists actually prefer the sound of recorded on a casettedeck sound. Today you can strangely, much better sound quality though, find it in Lorna Shore which is blackened Deathcore, and Dimmu along with some other bands are inspirations for them. For the OG sound check Darkthrone and Mayhem among a few others.
Love your reactions and it's obvious you like a mix of harsh and clean vocals, which I can understand as I used to be the same, but ... not every band or song has to or needs to have them. And in most instances it would take away from the mood or atmosphere a lot of bands try to create. Still appreciate ya 🙏
US-Metal is the most boring kind of metal, it all sounds the same...chugging guitars. screaming vocals, no guitar solos...no talent. I know, there are some great bands from the US, but above is what we get presented in the rest of the world. We must let the underground scene flourish!

I would say they're a symphonic black metal band, or, if you take into account of their lyrics, an occult metal band.
Sweden is known for Melodic Death Metall, Norway for fast Black Metall.
