After many years of watching and rewatching this excellent video I finally got my hands on this model kit for a good price. Strangely my copy was printed in red and white plastic instead of grey? Anyways, had a good time putting it together (though it is a lot more difficult than any modern model kit) and seeing how all the different mechanisms make the transformation work. I also found that Japanese online retailer Hobby Search was selling reprints of this model kit (though in original Mospeada packaging) for pretty good prices so I have a couple of those being shipped to me as well.
Thats awesome! Did you paint it or keep the red/white of the kit? I have been itching to do more models, probably should get another one of these to see if I can improve on the this last one.
@@MantisNineNines I left it red and white because I prefer the color scheme and want to put this with my Transformers Jetfire collection (also I'm lazy). I find it interesting how even though it's meant to be a Gobot they still include references to the Mospeada anime on the decals and the sprues. Anyways, now is a good time to import the reprint kits by Aoshima, they've already ran out of the blue ones and only have the green and red ones left. I've heard rumors that the mold has degraded a bit which may impact the build quality but barely anyone talks about this kit so idk, I'm sure it's fine.
@@MantisNineNines Update for anyone interested, unfortunately Hobby Search has since sold out on all 3 models of the Legioss (but they still have some Ride Armor models). The reissue models seemed to use a slightly more brittle plastic and had significant amounts of flashing on the parts that needed to be removed. The joints also seemed more loose than the 1980's kit. They kept the metal parts but eschewed the rubber tires. Still a fun experience overall, and I hope they reissue the kits again some day as modern Legioss toys and kits are super expensive nowadays.
I think the red flaps on the legs landing gear is supposed to be put in flat before the white portion. That is why they might be sticking out. I assume the white sits flat on the red part after placed.
This is really good and screen accurate! The version I got doesn't transform (no alt mode; it doesn't even have a canopy for the cockpit) and is stuck in robot mode while being about the same size! It is the only version I have seen in person (Robotech stuff is rare in Quebec!)
I remember the actual toys in the store...almost scored one but alas, not meant to be. Great review, and love that you showed the modes ( tho bizarre choice for a "Go-Bot" )
@mantis999999999 $80 seems a bit steep for one of those kits! You should be able to get one for at most half that. As for the Calibur, search "Aoshima 1/48 Calibur" on ebay & it should pop up...there are lots of other Dorvack kits, too, so you could just search "Dorvack" under model kits. :)
@mantis999999999 sure...tho I guess I can just look...i still wish i couldve gotten one...i had an SDF-01 toy back then too, paid $5 for it...now they are way too much

And I’ll check out Hobby Search, thanks for the tip. Always in the market for reasonable priced vintage kits!

Rare model, nice
Nice! Have you considered building one of the old Bandai transforming Macross VF-1 kits? Or maybe the transforming Mugen Calibur from Dorvack?
