Remarkable work. Powerful in its simplicity, just like Girard’s thought. Nonviolence - what Walter Wink calls the “third way” - really is the hope for humanity’s future. May Girard’s legacy ripple outward and change the way we think about life together in this globalized world. I’ll be sharing this documentary with everyone I know.
Magnificent piece of work, explaining mimetic theory and its development in a comprehensive, yet profound way. Recommended to those who know and those who are beginning to know René Girard and his work.
Christmas gift 🎁 Thank you so much for keeping his knowledge and wisdom alive. That's so necessary to our world today. May intellectual people be touched by this Truth.
@@MatthewHall-c9k I cannot answer on behalf of the person who made that comment. As I see it takes some intellectual effort to become interested on this kind of thinking and also it takes intellectual bravery to realise your shortcomings and act upon this realisation.
Mr Sorich, merci !
Beautiful ! Girard’s mimetic desire theory can also be applied to the concept of maya which makes us want to be ‘the other’. His conclusion is the summun bonum of the bhagavadgita: do work for the greater good, detachment your ego from your work, and practice balance ( yoga) so you nullify the visceral nature of desire. Lovely beautiful Girard !
Excellent documentary, summarizing Girard's life and thought, and displaying his humor and humility. I think this will broaden Rene's audience immensely, and spark renewed interest in his works. Well done!
This is nicely done. It avoids, as so many documentaries on thinkers do not, turning the ideas into carictural piñatas for people to whack at. Conservatives fabricate these (to bait liberals) as eagerly as the left. I am not speaking as someone who knows Girard's work - so not about fidelity, but rather about seriousness. This documentary has a rare seriousness: avoiding the reduction of ideas to non-ideas. And it does not wander. It weaves the biography in deftly, by the way. - Well done; thank you.
Thank you for uploading this thoughtful contribution to our self understanding. I am positively surprised and delighted that I had heard nothing about Girard before. I am grateful 🙏
Just found this today, Christmas Day, and haven't had a chance to view it yet - too much going on Christmas Day! But very much looking forward to it! I heard about Rene Girard many years ago, and dismissed him then as it sounded like yet another grand theory purporting to explain all of human culture in terms of one simple mechanism - an approach that I have a knee-jerk negative reaction to. But an acquaintance of mine suggested I look at this thought as a way of understanding the death of Jesus as something other than divine child abuse, so starting looking into it through online sources, and it's having a great impact on me. I think it may provide me with a Christian theology I can truly live with - a thoroughly non-violent Christianity. So, thank you in advance for a great Christmas present!
Thank you so much... very deep and rich and deserving of multiple views. Given our current political moment in the US, I'm intrigued when certain of these interviews occurred - especially for one billionaire entrepreneur closely associated with the incoming administration. It reminds me that the awareness of the deep truths that Girard pursued does not necessarily lead to a proper and pro-future use of them by those with power. So the need for self-examination and curiosity and being open to the idea that in any given moment - that I too can be like Simon Peter - is critical wisdom to embrace.
Girard is as unique as his ideas. One reason he was able to see mimetic desire is because of his own rare ability and willingness to recognize his own subtle dark emotions and thoughts. Not many men in their twenties would be able to acknowledge they feel resentment or superiority in a time they were enjoying new success in America etc. His discovery and ability to extrapolate it required an intimacy between the conscious rational mind and the passions which usually overwhelm its processes to remain hidden and unknowable. He could look at something long enough that is too dangerous to our self concept for most to bear. I feel like this is the reason Girard hasn’t had the popularity it should… his idea is painful and scary to approach….
What a beautiful documentary and tribute to René Girard, with heartfelt testimonies from those who knew him. Thanks for sharing. We will continue to weigh the significance and impact of his thought, but it certainly touches me from the very first utterance.
Thank you so much for this wonderful gift and impressive documentary. I'm thrilled and so happy seeing his life and achievments, which are really a mankind achievments. I want also to share the interview on Dutch TV, featured in some parts of this film, to enjoy and celebrate René Girard and remember the power of his talks and ideas. ruclips.net/video/9xDKeVEAGWY/видео.htmlsi=qOFEQ41-_fxWPms9
Jesus said, "For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed" in Luke 8:17. The verse appears in other Bible passages, including: Mark 4:22 "For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light" Luke 12:2-3 "There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known" Matthew 10:26 "There is nothing so closed that it will not be opened, and nothing so hide that it will not be known"
Well, scape-goating is not the fullness of the Gospel. There is so much more, so much deeper about God and man in the crucifixion of Christ than just another iteration of the dialectic. I am not saying this not a part, but only part. I think Gerard's greatest theory on memetics has to do with his discussion of homosexuality. That was totally enlightening to me. It is also found in the book: Things Hidden From the Foundation of the World."
I find it rather ridiculous and deliberately deceptive that the adjective, "anti-clerical", is applied and used in this documentary to a person who is actually an atheist. God bless.

Why "intellectual people?"

Mr Sorich, merci !
Thanks, it is surely a beautiful Xmas gift. Girard really needs to be read and known more in the 21st century.
What a perfect date to release this! Humanity thanks for this Christmas gift! 🎄
Congratulations Sam & Trevor! So awesome to see this live.
Merry Christmas and Happy bday René Girard
Thank you for watching. Subtitles now enabled!

Utterly brilliant, thank you. Hoping for the widest possible circulation especially in schools, universities and prisons.

Just absolutely fantastic. A beautiful film about a beautiful person!

Thank you to producers. Excellent work.
I've now watched the film, and it was better than I hoped! What a great intro to Girard!!

Great. Just Loved it.🙏
Thank you for this beautiful documentary! It was a wonderful Christmas gift! Bravo!
Thank you from Poland 🎄🎁
What a great documentary about one of the great 21st-century Catholic thinkers. Delighted to see it is now available for free!
Are there 'baptist thinkers?'

Awesome piece of work! Thanks so much!
Incredible documentary thanks ❤❤❤
Well done. Makes me want to read Girard!
Fantastic! Thank you.
Incredible film!
Girardian from Africa 💪🏽
Thanks
Magnificent - superb- essential - Congratulations on a very important documentary for our times - with blessings 🙏
Congratulations! This is an amazing documentary!
Thank you for this.
Great job!! You really made his ideas accessible.
Thanks
Thank You from Spain ❤
Watching this in Girard’s birth town, Avignon.
There’s a plate dedicated to him in the public library.
Fantastic, so very profound
WOW
Absolutely fantastic!
Just a very surprising moment: on the mark 17:19 you can read that his full name is René Noel Girard?
René, Noël, Théophile Girard.
Excelente! Pueden activar los subtítulos en español para los Girardianos hispanos? Gracias!
Actually it would be even greater if all subtitles were enabled.m, even if they are just automatic Google translation.
The madness of reciprocal violence
it's not madness if you have the biggest sharpened stick!😁
Wonderful documentary.
The intro used the model of memetic desire to get me interested in this documentary
Excellent!
Thank you. Monsuer Apocalypse (revealer).
Thank you!
This was fantastic. His theory of scapegoating explains the tidal wave of antisemitism we are seeing today.
will you please define antisemitism? Scapegoating of Palestinians by hand of their blood relatives?
beautiful
Please make the subtitles available.
Yes please, than I will share he in Brazil where most people don't speak English. Thank you.
Subtitles have been enabled!
@@THINGSHIDDENMOVIE Thank you so much for your quick response!
Now I can easily share this video with even more people.
FYI very difficult to take clips from many sources/old interviews and keep the audio balanced

Great interview - how could they exclude it from a film about him...
I am enjoying the documentary, but is it possible in the near future subtitles can be added?
Thank you for watching! Subtitles have been enabled!
Jesus said, "For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed" in Luke 8:17. The verse appears in other Bible passages, including:
Mark 4:22
"For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light"
Luke 12:2-3
"There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known"
Matthew 10:26
"There is nothing so closed that it will not be opened, and nothing so hide that it will not be known"
It is interesting that religions that focus on reducing desire don’t have a pronounced sacrificial motive.
I like the documentary, but I don't know why music is being played over people speaking.
Thank you! I hope the subtitles will help.
Anyone knows in which book Girard wrote what the narrator is saying in minute 28? Thanks!
When These Things Begin: Conversations with Michel Treguer (Michigan State University Press, 2014)
It happens to know some of Rene Girard's body of work One thing is sure Hidden doesn't mean unknown or not at hand .

Only an american venture capitalist could call Girards ideas a new Apologetic.
Great documentary on a seminal figure...but did you have to include commentary from that heretic Richard Rohr?
I find it rather ridiculous and deliberately deceptive that the adjective, "anti-clerical", is applied and used in this documentary to a person who is actually an atheist. God bless.
Narcissists
That's rich😂
