Awwww this was a pleasant surprise - that’s where I did my tailoring apprenticeship after studying tailoring at UAL. I now run a tailoring shop in a small town in Colombia 😌
That was an adorable thing to witness. Both the History Lads looked SMASHING in their Saville Row suites, and it was an odd sort of privilege to see the process of their becoming suited unfolding. (Suitification?) Who doesn't love a glimpse of master tailors at work? And one last thought: Waistcoats ARE as elegant as eff, and Tom was RIGHT to have one!
How can you suffer from poor self-esteem, Mr Sandbrook? You are both gorgeous and intelligent! You both look so handsome and have given me such enjoyment this year. Loved the Albert Hall show and have booked for next May. Thanks so much and this was such an enjoyable peek into Savile Row.
Brilliant!!! Loved every minute of this. So well made! The suits looked fantastic, and the expertise was fascinating. What an incredible company! Great spin off. Dominic, you looked so handsome! Tom, elegant as ever 😀
The guys were a bit humbled by the experience of bespoke tailoring at such a swanky shop. I could feel their little insecurities and embarrassments. It was delightful to watch these big brains be gently overwhelmed by their tailors. I was touched to see them made vulnerable. Charming indeed.
For one brief moment I thought Fred Astaire and Laurence Olivier had taken over The Rest Is History. Then I realised it was just Tom and Dom in posh suits.
Delightful! Nothing but body positivity here and fine generational craftsmanship. It takes a vulnerability and trust to share such details about one's own body to allow for this type of sartorial perfection. After those detailed fittings and honest conversations about the shoulders, collars, bum, button placements and "room for lunch", I might need a cigarette! Most of the famous clients get to do this in private, but you are brave confident men to put it all on film and share it with us. Thank you and Happy New Year!
*IM A BESPOKE TAILOR* of men's historical suits 1890 - 1940 [which is mostly the Henry Pool method] I will be saving this to watch later with a cup of tea
Fascinating contrast between the suit first worn by Tom at the start of the film and the finished product which showed off Tom to be a fine clothes horse. Tells you everything you need to know about the skills of Saville Row Tailoring
This is so wonderful two great passions of mine……. History and men’s fashion….. brought together with that wonderful light touch to the boys of The Rest Is History
Good grief! By pure chance I listened to the two musical episodes on my walk this morning (Jan 1st, 2025), and now I come home to this great surprise! Both Tom and Dom looking so sharp. A big improvement on Tom’s normal “suit” which looks like it was strung together in a corner shop in Kolkata. Now he looks like a Hollywood icon from the 1940s. And Dom looks like he should live in this outfit. He has been transformed from an excruciatingly detailed biographer of Harold Wilson into a Captain of Industry! You guys are such a pleasure to listen to. Keep it up. And please come back to late antiquity, perhaps this time with a focus on Byzantium?
This took me back to when I had a suit made by W.G Child of Wandsworth a decade ago. I returned this year, and to see my paper pattern being taken from the hanger was lovely
Wonderful! I would have no issue modeling myself after Mr. Toad. Nothing wrong with styling yourself like the bon vivant country squire and master of Toad Hall.
Wow, don't you boys look dapper! Superb outcome from chancing your arm (ahhh, wouldnt we love the histories of phrase and fable...), this was a fun show thankyou for brightening up Boxing day.
''Old Suit? This suit was cut by Hawkes of Saville Row! Just because the best tailoring you've ever seen is above your fucking appendix...'' - Withnail.
Fascinating. Thank you guys. Now I know I have a dropped shoulder which is not uncommon and why my backpack tends to slip off my left shoulder. I would give my eye teeth (if I still had them) to be measured and fitted for a Savile Row suit. One day when I drop the Lottery, it would be my 1st call to action.
Fabulous! Amazing! This was wonderful to see, and I like when tibits of history are thrown into the mix, like Edward VII's bringing the bottom button left undone into style ... ha, ha! Cheers!😎👍
Best in the world, thanks to our long standing cooperation and empathy with the wonderful trades people and historic background with the Jewish people.
@@gbickell As I understand it, historically there have been Israeli centres set up in niches of London, where trades people, such as tailors, gold and silver smiths set themselves up in business and from there established their reputations, which has continued to develop through a few generations.
last night I watched the Mike Leigh film Vera Drake. there was a men's suit fitting (character was going to his sister's wedding). era 1950. 2 pc or 3 pc...that's it
5:15 These gentlemen seem very down to earth. I loved when they got a chuckle discussing "what nazi would you like to fit for a suit" They knew it was such an absurd premise. I dont know, it just seemed like something mates would get a laugh from
At 3:37. The guy in the middle has a really badly fitted suit on. The jacket is too tight at the middle. The collar does not rest on the neck, and the suit looks well worn and wrinkled.
I’ve been to a number of tailors from Australia to the USA and Hong Kong and Bangkok. Every time they’ve never got the ensemble “right”. Asians in particular have no idea of waist to bottom of the crotch. USA never seems to get the sleeve to body right.
Is it a coincidence that Frances & Konstantin on Triggernometry just did an episode interviewing their tailor? Is it the same fellow? PS I've just started the video, so maybe you save yourselves but speeding over the GOAT PG Wodehouse at the outset is sacrilege.
Glad we got to know Tom and Dominic’s measurements now I can continue my work on life size replicas. They’ll be on the merch shop soon
...replicas of the suits?
I dread to think what I could get up to with a life-size Tom and Dom. Weekend at Rest Is...
But will they be wearing togas??
Where can I order?
Awwww this was a pleasant surprise - that’s where I did my tailoring apprenticeship after studying tailoring at UAL. I now run a tailoring shop in a small town in Colombia 😌
Thank you for sharing !
Nice.
Tailoring the Drug Lords, Nice!
@@realjedsoni mean they need clothes too! And i’m sure they tip quite nicely!
Undoubtedly, this is the podcast which has made my 2024 and reinvigorated my own history teaching. Dominic and Tom, thank you for everything.
Holland and Sandbrook looking elegant and polished! Be still my beating heart. Love the episode. Love the look.
This was a lovely Boxing Day treat. Have to say that I am envious of Holland's new suit.
This is amazing. I’d love to see more episodes like this!
Yes! So many amazing old places like this. Berry Bros for wine! They could have so much fun.
Absolutely.

Loved the people at Anderson & Sheppard. Both Tom and Dominic look so elegant. Fun movie.
Tom made such a good call to go with a three piece pinstripe suit. You got some beautiful suits, they look so natural and comfortable.
Two very handsome fellows, with or without their tailored suits! Thanks for taking us for this ride. Cheers! ❤🎉
You're blind. They are Mr. Toad and Mr Geek. I really love their podcast, but they are not Fred Astaire and Laurence Olivier
The guys were a bit humbled by the experience of bespoke tailoring at such a swanky shop. I could feel their little insecurities and embarrassments. It was delightful to watch these big brains be gently overwhelmed by their tailors. I was touched to see them made vulnerable. Charming indeed.

I'll be honest, Tom is more reminiscent of ol' Fred.
There's nothing like a well tailored suit on a man. Its elegant, polished and very cool. The guys look great.
What a lovely treat! You both look mah-velll-ous!!! (And yes, Daniel Craig’s suits are too tight!)
Lovely. It’s great to see the lads out and about.
With his lanky frame, Tom looks fabulous in his pinstripes. I hope Dom will indulge his inner Badger and get himself a thick brown tweed outfit.

A saville suit is on my bucket list. 😊
The bucket will be needed for the money ££££
worth every penny
The Rest is History in the wild! More of please

This was just so pleasant to watch, thank you! You both look great
We Brits need to sell our craftsmanship far more. We make brilliant stuff.
Fascinating contrast between the suit first worn by Tom at the start of the film and the finished product which showed off Tom to be a fine clothes horse. Tells you everything you need to know about the skills of Saville Row Tailoring
Every chap at this tailor looks damn good in a suit. Tom and Dominic also very dashing.
Love it. There is nothing more attractive than a man who knows how to dress for an occasion!
This is so wonderful two great passions of mine……. History and men’s fashion….. brought together with that wonderful light touch to the boys of The Rest Is History
What a treat Tom and Dominic more please x

LOVE this! 🎄🎄
Absolutely brilliant ❤
Quality suits . Love the insight into how they are made and the history of them. great episode.
Looking good, lads.
Lovely Boxing Day treat, thank you! Wish I could be with you in May at the RAH. Happy New Year!
Other than seeing TRIH on the prowl, I'm even more delighted to finally see Theo, our MVP Frenchman (we can't all be perfect)!
Enjoyed this so much. Happy Christmas
Incredible. Amazing suits.
This took me back to when I had a suit made by W.G Child of Wandsworth a decade ago. I returned this year, and to see my paper pattern being taken from the hanger was lovely
Love how when he says tap your microphones, it’s done in total sync!
Wow! Loved this.
This is amazing.

What a great episode.
Wonderful! Bravi!
The intro goes so hard 0:00 😂 not even kidding 😅
Just found this, early on New Year's Day, what a treat, you both look wonderful in your beautiful suits
Sharp and divine looking fellows....👍
Wow, don't you boys look dapper! Superb outcome from chancing your arm (ahhh, wouldnt we love the histories of phrase and fable...), this was a fun show thankyou for brightening up Boxing day.
''Old Suit? This suit was cut by Hawkes of Saville Row! Just because the best tailoring you've ever seen is above your fucking appendix...'' - Withnail.
Not that you needed any help but the two of you were exceptionally handsome in your suits!

This was fantastic. Interesting and hilarious.
I love Anderson & Sheppard.
Good to see Sir Keir has mastered a trade too! Impressive!
What a lovely job.
STYLE! 👔 Lovely 😻
Fabulous! Amazing! This was wonderful to see, and I like when tibits of history are thrown into the mix, like Edward VII's bringing the bottom button left undone into style ... ha, ha! Cheers!😎👍
Truly fascinating. You both look handsome & comfortable in your bespoke suits.
Now a bespoke pair of shoes to go with your suits. Please ?
The content I didn’t know I needed!
Brilliant episode. Merry Christmas 🎄🎄.
Very enjoyable and informative. Loved it.
You should invite Hugo Jacomet, French Sartorial legend.
This is amazing!
Fantastic!
English tailoring - best in the world. If you want to know what a traditional costume is, you can't go wrong with a quality suit.
Best in the world, thanks to our long standing cooperation and empathy with the wonderful trades people and historic background with the Jewish people.
@expressoevangelism80 ooh, interesting! Please could you send some info my way about that? Sounds fascinating

Great episode.
I think I'd watch this pair do just about anything
This was very british!… love it
I had no idea how much work goes into a high end custom suit.
Great bantz lads
The pleasure of wearing well made properly fitting clothes is a rare treat
Brilliant !
They look awesome! They're traditional British cuts, yet they look very modern on Professors Holland and Sandbrook... kinda like their podcasts.
last night I watched the Mike Leigh film Vera Drake. there was a men's suit fitting (character was going to his sister's wedding). era 1950. 2 pc or 3 pc...that's it
Theo appears!
Wow! So smart!
The selection questions - reminded me of ruched, not ruched (IYKYK)
Mr Toad? Dom would look great in some plus fours imho
so important to have excellent clothing!
2:39 also for their senses of humour!
Somewhere Kirby Allison is seething, LOL (IYKYK)
5:15 These gentlemen seem very down to earth. I loved when they got a chuckle discussing "what nazi would you like to fit for a suit"
They knew it was such an absurd premise. I dont know, it just seemed like something mates would get a laugh from
Dominic's socks. But doesn't he look handsome!
I suspect I would need a lot of “room for lunch”….
Thierry Henry, hands down. 🤟
I's love you to do a episode on Malcolm McLaren & Vivienne Westwood and PUNK.
love to see tom and Dominic waffling away
how much the suit costs?
Oooh, suits you sir, suits you.
Where can we watch the podcast 'The Suit, Savile Row, and Smartly Dressed Men'? Would love to watch the video of the podcast
TOM: Is that bad? DOM: Yeah.
Was Dominic wearing the wrong shoes?
At 3:37. The guy in the middle has a really badly fitted suit on. The jacket is too tight at the middle. The collar does not rest on the neck, and the suit looks well worn and wrinkled.
The guy? Wash your mouth out with soap!
. . . and then agreed that Daniel Craig's suit is too tight? Yea, right!
that "most definitely" after Daniel Craig's too tight suits 🤣🤣
Nice - how much was it?
Clothes make the man
High stakes- like feeding cannabis to a cow.
I always wanted a Savile suit, until l heard about all those terrible things he did while he was alive 😱
