    He's a man from a generation where people used to have integrity, could die for his principle, civilized and well cultured, and even he has the ability to respect his enemy. Such a loveable and admirable individual he is.

    I admire Sam to the hilt. First time I saw him in real was when he addressed the Passing Out Parade in IMA in Mar 72. Thereafter I met him a few times in Wellington when I was attending the Staff College in 1983. He was the one who presented us the MSc Degree. Later I heard him in Higher Command Course in 1994. Every time my respect and admiration went higher and higher. He was certainly a Chief who the nation is proud of. God bless his soul.

    • @mator2339
      @mator2339 4 года назад +15

      @Chaudhry Vikrant ror maratha Wtf is wrong with you man ?? Sam Manekshaw was Indian as well. Dont you remember he was the COAS of the Indian Army during 1971 ?? You unnecessarily replied to one Indian praising another Indian community. Parsis are Indians. Lt. Col. Ardeshir Tarapore who was Indian first and then a parsi lead the Indian tank attack against Pakistani army in Pakistan in 1965, his battalion, the one which he was commanding destroyed 60 Patton Tanks whilst losing 9 of his own, including the one in which he was present, he died in it and for that he was later awarded the PvC or Param Vir Chakra, highest war time gallantry award. Another Indian parsi Lt. Comm. Bahadur Nariman Kavina was the commanding of officer of INS Nipat (now decommissioned) during the 1971 war, he lead and planned Operation Trident which destroyed Karachi port to bits and destroyed Pakistani Navy Headquarters there. Other countless Indian parsis have served the Indian nation. You calling them non-Indians is simply wrong. They are as much Indians as you and me.
      Inferiority and superiority complexes are nothing but illusions. People who have no achievements of their own cling to the glories of their great ancestors to feel good today. In reality they are only coping with their internal void and failure to achieve anything worthwhile in life. All Indians were great, all our ancestors were great. But then everyone's were. Everyone in this world thinks their ancestors were great. And they should but there should be no obsession over it.
      Honour the heroes of the land just dont obsess over them. Otherwise it goes on to become full on Nazism. And all of us know how it ended for the Nazis, dont we ? Honouring the heroes is always fine, one shouldn't obsess over them or any "past glorious times". Its dangerous. Otherwise, superiority and inferiority complexes are both equally suicidal and perennial to survival. One must strive to become rational.

      Manekshaw didn't like the Congress regime at all. In this interview it seemed like Manekshaw had good relations with Indira Gandhi, but it wasn't the case. He made her more furious day by day, he was the man who used to go by his own words, conviction and commitments adding much more to the irk of her party members.

    Interestingly, Manekshaw had a poor opinion of Karan Thapar's father, Gen. P.N. Thapar, who, accoring to him, lacked the courage to stand up to the political establishment, which led to India's defeat in 1962.
