Bonsai Stock Fabian Aralia Stump Pruning, Polyscias Scutellaria, Jan2024

Fabian aralia, Polyscias Scutellaria, aka Dinner Plate aralia make excellent houseplants. Last year, I started a similar variegated version, Balfour aralia. Im curious to see how to shape this stump aralia into a contemporary bonsai tree.

If I prune or chop a light brown stump down, will it regrow a stump later, or just new branches? Do the branches become stumps after time?
