Kevin, a wonderful presentation. Clear, easy to understand. Well done.
Is there an update for this video? This is great info, but I'm sure things have changed!
Thanks. So much good info, even though some of it is dated. Bravo.
Thanks for all the helpful information.
Top tip for Americans. Basically every McDonalds and Starbucks in Europe has WiFi, and basically every large down and city in Europe has a McDonalds or a Starbucks. So just look for brands you recognise and you'll find your way to WiFi.
FANTASTIC! Gotta try some of this stuff. Think of all the travel time (and stress) can be saved with all this "new" functionality.
So glad I found this information on the types of data and what it is likely to cost. I would love to see a 2018 update before I depart for the balkans next month. thanks
Excellent, very professional
I saw Rick Steves during one of his talks uses the WiHo! portable wifi. I used a portable wifi hot spot for a month in Japan and it cost 100$USD (and was fantastic). For 3 weeks in Europe WiHo! is about 200$USD. Probably too expensive for most scenarios but the hotspot I found to be invaluable.
Listening to his presentation was like being in church. No matter how badly I wanted to hear the message, I kept nodding off. lol
Project Fi with their new roaming agreements kind of changes everything, though. As a bonus they will even send you a free data sim that you can pop in your backup phone. i.e. phone sim in your Pixel, and a datasim in an older Nexus 6p or Moto X4 (Android One version).
Great video. Thanks
Money saving tip. Most mapping apps like Google Maps will let you download part of the map so you can use it when you don't have an internet connection.
I have been using the free HERE app for several years for navigation (walking, driving) in Europe offline. Worked great as I am able to download maps for an entire country and use it offline. Included speed limits, etc. Never had problem with memory limitations on my Samsung S7.
It seems like the pricing for prepaid data on SIM cards is lot cheaper than what it apparently was back when this talk was given. I'm seeing prices of around $6 for 1GB in Hungary. That's way, way better than the international plan from Verizon.
really good - thanks!
I have a pre-paid trac-fone an LG brand will it work in Europa? Yes, it is a cell phone, with international calls allowed.
I bought the LG G5 and have Tmobile . We love TMobile as they have good service.
Should I also get a VPN for my iPhone📱?
thanks!
Either your mic is off or not good or you're too far from it but we can't hardly hear you
Ur speakers r bad
Getting a global plan with your cell phone provider is very important. When I worked for Verizon a coworker had to deal with a customer who went on a 6 month trip to Europe without a global plan and came home to a $5,000.00 bill that the customer was responsible for because they didn't even call to set up a plan
Android is better than Apple
It's easier to travel with an Android phone as it takes the same USB cables as anything else you need to charge, so you don't have to take a bunch of different cables and outlet adapters.
Get an Android phone!
