    Our garage was a mess! We could barely walk through it so it was time to clean it out.
    I watched all 8 episodes of "Tidying Up with Marie Kondo" on Netflix in two days and was feeling very motivated to declutter. I knew it was going to be a massive cleanout but we decided to take advantage of the rare sunny January weather and start with the garage.
    With some motivation from the show and the accountability factor to get this video posted for you all, we got it done in about 14 hours!

    Just started my spring garage clean today it’s wayyyy overdue. I quit my job in 2017 because my hubby and I decided we would TTC. I was pregnant last year and so many things got put on the back burner 🤦🏽‍♀️ now I’ve got a newborn but I slowly but surely am able to chisel away at long overdue tasks. I am super obsessed with cleaning videos and love to have them going in the background while I get my life together lol I am so glad I stumbled upon your video it is very realistic to the current state of my garage right now. Loving this clean up 👌🏽❤️

    I need to do this to my garage. I’ve been purging and selling things for a while now but it’s been slow going.

    had a similar problem with my mother and her boyfriend, who served time in the military. He had a bunch of friends who passed away. Being that, he also accumulated a lot of memorabilia from his fallen comrades. I suggested that he clean the place once, but gave me a look that I won’t forget.
    Shortly thereafter, during a small stint at a reunion for fallen soldiers, I called for the services of Jux Los Angeles, a garage and attic cleaning / reorganization company, based in southern a California. My mother’s boyfriend wasn’t pleased with what I had done at first. As a week passed by since the renovation, much to his chagrin, he had to tell me that the place looked so different and that now, he has a place where he can honor his brothers and sisters; in his garage ( I made it extra special and hung up some uniforms his comrades wore on the garage walls…)

    The garage is our last place to declutter! I need my husband to go through his things (mainly tools). I’ve decluttered my entire house over the last 2.5 years. I’ve been in maintain mode for the last six months and I have a really good handle on keeping the clutter out. There is always a donation box at the ready in the garage (it’s currently overflowing)! That’s all part of maintaining. I routinely go through our things and as seasons change, we change, grow out of things, or replace an item we add to our donate pile. I can’t wait for some warmer weather to get everything out of our garage and only bring back in what we’re keeping.

      @MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife  5 лет назад +1

      That's a great idea to have a donation box! I definitely plan to go through things every few months so we don't build it all back up again. How has it felt living clutter free?

    • @brittany.powell
      @brittany.powell 5 лет назад

      It’s felt amazing! I know what I have in every drawer, bin, box, basket, cabinet, etc. Tidying is easy because everything has a home. There are never clutter piles all over the place. We’re not overwhelmed by too many choices (clothes/toys) and we live comfortably with just enough. Decluttering your home even has a tendency to trickle into how you spend/value your money too. We’re more intentional with purchases and buy for quality and not quantity. It’s even changed how I grocery shop! I never stock pile our pantry or refrigerator/freezer anymore. I meal plan and shop weekly, which eliminates overspending and wasting food. I love opening my pantry or my refrigerator and freezer and being able to see everything in there. When you can see it and find it you eat it and don’t waste!

      That is amazing ❤️ I am so excited for when we get the whole house decluttered too!

    Thank you so much for your video, a true inspiration.
    I needed this video to keep me motivated! I have a challenge for myself to get my car in the garage by the time my neighbor gets home from her 10 day vacation.
    On Friday I started decluttering my garage. It wasn't supposed to rain, and of course, out of nowhere we got a typical Florida Downpour so I only got 4 hours of work done. Saturday I was so sore from the "rainstorm rush" of pushing, pulling and carrying things in a hurry, I only was able to "zone" my items, get rid of two broken non functioning plastic shelving units, and started organizing my 3 tool cupboards. I am down to just organizing the items that go into one of them. Thanks to you, Now I am ready to get up in the early morning and get another 4 hours in before my work day begins and before it gets to 80 or 90 degrees.

    The BEST Way to Save time and also the added lifting and Moving both ( In and Out ) is to start in a specific area ( FIRST ) Like a Door entrance to the House. Sounds like you were going to Sort or Get Rid of things ( AFTER the Fact ) . Time Wise ( That only Creates MORE WORK ). To Often, people Move Everything just to Move it all back into the same areas. With all the Added Shelf space you have ( Going Vertical Instead of Horizontal ) Will Get you the Biggest bang for the buck. Trash or donations , Sale items, NEED to BE ( OUT of the Way ) Before stacking or organizing begins. Take it from someone who has been doing this all there life. People Collect ( CLUTTER ) then Insist on keeping it around until they move or worse ( NEED IT ) Cant Find it - Then - BUY IT Once again. Most used items should be Front and Center. Seasonal or Holiday type decorations should be Up and Out of the way. Always Label what is in the Boxes , Bins, Shelves. Simple Tape with a One or Two word Label gets it done quick and easy. Yard items like Lawn movers , rakes, shovels, and such should be Closest to the Over Head door for Ease of Use. Just like Winter items, Snow Blowers , Brooms, Ice Scrapers and things like Sleds and Salt or sand. Over head storage is for things you use once in a blue moon - Fishing and Camping gear -Tents, Sleeping Bags, Etc. Always keep a Garbage Can handy with Broom and Dust pan. At Least One Major Walk way or Access points also . If Ladders are needed strap them to the shelves or put them along the garage door opening to be used at a moments notice.. Anything you throw out needs to BE OUT . Do Not Collect Donations ( Take them) as they are set aside. Just like sale items. Post as you go thru out the year. Clutter Attracts CLUTTER. Piles fall down, Things get intermixed, and people Forget what it was they did weeks and months into it all. Take it from Someone who has been asked over and over - HOW to Get Started? How to Stay Organized? Yes, also have Been the Person Actually Doing it - for those who never want to tackle the ruff stuff, like Throwing out the Trash . You Did Good - YET - ( IT ) Could Have been taken Care of - Much Quicker and more Specifically less time ( Of ) Moving out just to move it back in.. Sometimes , Stepping back with less people around will yield greater results ( VERSUS ) Extra Bodies - Taking up time and space. Have seen it time and time again. They Will get 6 volunteers watching ( One ) or Two , maybe Three if your lucky - Looking at what others are Actually doing. At the Least ( DIVIDE Up ) tasks, Broom Crew, Garbage Patrol , Inside help , Outside Duties, Food Prep or Errands , and Last but not least - Label Makers. Pick Someone who can Write Accurately In Bold Letters On Tape Rolls as you go . Look At It this way. An Hour or less per week will maintain a working - storage area. Be it at night, on the weekend , or weekdays after work. Personally Got in the Habit of taking trash Out of the house in the Morning before leaving for work. When I got Home Straighten up for a few minutes during the week so things NEVER Ever Explode in the mean time. Being organized is NOT a One and Done. Its a Way of Life. From Basements , to Attics, Garages, to storage sheds. Out of Site ( OUT OF MIND ) . Take this all as it was intended. TO Help. To Bring to Light . Also as advice moving forward. . The Old saying: " Time to Lean - Means always Time to Clean " Enjoy and Good Luck...
