I am now aware that it is called a "Harrington Hump"!
Haven't you heard Georf Marshall say it?
Yup. They're named after Harrington Station on the Cumbrian Coast line which is where the first one was installed.
As a side note I would love to see some videos on that line, It's my absolute favourite line, the coast is just stunning
Now I want to hear Adam Chase shouting "We're in the Snack Shack BABYYYYY!" 😆
Good to see a Jet Lag reference in there!
The snack….shack! I understood that reference 😂
It'd be great to see the two of you against the Jet Lag regulars in some sort of UK rail challenge after this 😀
Love the Snack Zone reference!!!!! you two are cultured
Or they have a Nebula subscription
I admire your girlfriend's optimism about Ashington being a nice place. She's in for a surprise.
N'humberland is very pretty. Ashington perhaps not so much.
I did visit Acklington once back in September years ago and was getting dark then but I love the Chathill service as it very quirky and hoping to visit Pegswood and Widdrington this Summer (Date is set and Hotel is booked) as I haven't visited those stations yet. Also love that there was conflict with that Charter train. great video Nick
You guys are the modern day Geoff and Vicki
"I remember" Acklington, it was a sunny day in the mid seventies, there was still a ticket office where the clerk had company of his golden retriever. He gave me a bicycle LNER ticket still amongst the Edmondsons.
Never thought another LNER would come along nearly 50 years later.
Acklington is a pretty little Northumberland village.... with a huge high security prison in the middle of it!
Yet another phenomenally entertaining and well made ‘ticking off stations’ video! Quite a feat to do these 3 in a day so congrats to you!
When I did Acklington I walked it from Alnwick. Similarly, when I did Pegswood and Widdrington I got an earlier train to Morpeth, walked to Pegswood, rode to Widdrington and then rode back all the way home from Widdrington.
I was not expecting a Snack Zone ripoff in this video, what a nice surprise. (Also GO TEAM BADAM!)
More stations, especially at ones where a stopper service affects other services too much, should adopt passing loops where stopping trains have an extra pair of lines that split off from the main line to let passing services... pass. It's a huge problem for the Liverpool to Manchester south route (CLC).
Speaking of, Merseyrail really should adopt a line from Lime Street to Warrington Bank Quay (low level) via Fiddler's Ferry. It's such low cost, could free up the CLC line more, accesses underserved or superior locations when compared to the CLC and Merseyrail lines, the rails are all intact and basically unused... and it follows the Mersey!!
This is an issue on quite a few lines, mostly outside of London. The problem is a lot of these smaller stations that sit on the main line have infrastructure built around them already, meaning there's no space for them to be built on passing loops. Often there's not enough demand for the station to require a rebuild either so the easy solution is to just massively reduce the stopping services and add a frequent bus route to replace it.
Loving the reference to jetlag, whatever next a guest appearance ? 😂
A great video. i really enjoyed you travelling and showing us the three stations plus a village. The charter train looked so cool that passed through.
I am a (ex) native of those parts.
It may interest you to know the brick structure at 10:13 is the remains (the machine room part) of Widdrington Station signal box.
When I was a very young lad (4-5 years) I got friends with the son of the signalman there and got to spend a few hours in the box as he was working traffic. (A lot of steam still, in those (early 60s) days. And some A4s still in service.)
I was completely fascinated by it, and the memories remain vivid to this day.
I have a good photo of the box as it was if you are interested and you let me know how to share it with you. (I don't think you share an email here on YT that I can see).
Good to have just discovered your channel!. I am looking forward to catching up with more!
Mike (ex of Northumberland, now living in the USA these past 40 years).
p.s. The name of the town the station serves . . . is "Widdrington Station" . . . that's the town name; so you really visited "Widdrington Station station," not "Widdrington station." Or, put another way, you visited the towns of Morpeth, Pegswood, Widdrington Station, and Acklington on your (very enjoyable) video.
Ahhh very interesting!
If that's the case then I'm assuming the village came because of the train station. So why isn't the station called "Widdrington station station"? 😂
@@nathanw9770 "Widdrington Station" is a sizable town (pop. 2500) "Widdington" is a tiny village (pop. 150), located about 3/4 of a mile NE (and separated from the town by open fields.
Great vlog Nick. It’s ashame these stations only get a limited service but you can understand why with this part of the ECML only having double track.
6:35 for some reason the northern announcer on civities also adds a LOT of emphasis on lime compared to liverpool and street
Fantastic vlog and great to see the lovely natt again modelling the point to point tshirt and best of luck to her when she starts her new job
We’re in the snack zone with this one

No, this is the legally distinct Snack shack, no copyright infringement here.
GO TEAM BADAM!
You two are joyous to watch.
Absolutely!!
Highly recommend the Woodhorn museum near where the bus to Pegswood terminates. Ashington reopening will reconnect a fantastic part of the world to the network
9:34 the noise of the 47 absolutely fantastic glad you enjoyed it nick and nat I live on the tyne valley line and really do enjoy it love the content keep up the work guys
Hi Nick! Maybe the emphasis on LING in Achlington is to avoid confusiion with Accrington in Lancashire.
The limited service these stations get just shows why the ECML needs to be upgraded to 4-Track between Peterborough & Edinburgh at least.
I wonder if they all visited 'The Waiting Room' on platform two at Durham? If you have to wait for a train, that's the place to do it.
Visited those three in September 21; on the Monday evening, got the train up from Newcastle to Widdrington, then waited and caught it back to Pegswood for a walk to Morpeth. Was completely dark for the 3 mile walk Pegswood to Morpeth, something I wouldn't advise doing in September; best to do it in June when it would be light around 8pm. Later did Acklington on the Wednesday, then Chathill itself in April 23
ive been on the ecml once...
... as far as stevenage (from london)
The Northumberland lain will open up this summer
Nice to see my local station Morpeth. I go spotting a lot there.
with regards to the train announcement pronunciation of AckLINGton, I wonder if the same guy had to voice the announcements for trains to Accrington, and needed to make sure the two names came out sounding different from one another
Great video!
I'm also happy you both finally managed to ride the Pride LNER Azuma after missed attempts previously!
6:41 Northern announcements always seem to but weird/heavy accents on the place names, even more than a local would
I journeyed all the way to Acklington from Portsmouth pre Covid. Back then we bounced along on a pacer thank god they’re gone now!
Pegswood? Woodhorn?
Were all the places up there named by 13yo boys?
Brilliant video Nick, lovely to see the Pride Azuma and the charter train. If there's been CCTV cameras put up because of recent events in an area, then it's an indication that it's not a good area to be in lol.
Looks like you two had fun.
There are in fact three other stations on the ECML that have even fewer trains - Balmossie, Barry Links and Golf Street; which are all between Dundee and Carnoustie, and have just one train in each direction on weekdays only. Springfield in Fife also has just two southbound and three northbound stop there. The first three were served by an hourly Dundee - Arbroath shuttle until 1992; but Springfield's service has been like that for as long as anyone can remember - which is odd, given that it serves a sizable village and a large mental hospital!
That's a separate line though, the ECML terminates at Edinburgh.
@@jackaylward-williams9064 That's a matter of opinion. The 1895 Races to the North ended at Kinnaber Junction!
@@jackaylward-williams9064does it not include Edinburgh to Aberdeen?
3:16 yeah ashington is not the nicest 😅
Jet Lag S10 Starts on RUclips on Wednesday, nice to see the reference!
I'll definitely be watching!
@@NickBadleyI’ve watched episode 1 on nebula. The new game format is great but without giving any spoilers, a lot less trains then last season
Great video, Nat seems to have been supervising you!!
Out of all the stations to put an electronic timetable in they choose widdrington?
nice i am a railfan too and i saw 507001 on saturday twice
Good job you saw it on Saturday as it derailed today!
@@u7yf3tz5vm '-w-w-w-w-w-w--w-w-w-hat? nooooooooooooooooooooooo
the snack shack not zone from jet lag the game with my other favourite youtuber sam denby
Interesting little video. Perhaps some history and info on the stopping patterns would be good too?
Now we need a collab with jet lag
Go to Salwick near Kirkham and Preston
How are they getting along with reopening the other line up there to passengers, and rebuilding Ashington Station?
Maybe pronounces the Ling in Acklington as a way to avoid confusion with Accrington?
It's unlikely they're 150 miles apart, they likely just have the person pronounce it in the clearest way possible, most people would just say ack lin ton
I saw the northern belle on that same day 6am at Derby
Congratulations on visiting all three stations on the same day
Good to see such convenient coordination of Public Transport up there NOT!! Station one end of town Bus Stop the other & 20 odd minute walk 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Northern also say Bramhall station as "Bramhall?", they have many weird announcement pronunciations 😂
400th like....nice ☺️ Love a video with the both of you...also Happy Anniversary ❤
I know that stations between Newcastle and York are mostly served by Northern and sometimes TransPennine Express and Durham see LNER trains stopping there.
Maybe Northern could introduce electric trains to run from York to Newcastle such as using Class 323 or Class 331.
“Stations between Newcastle and York mostly served by Northern” - are you sure about that?
The Newcastle-Darlington section only sees four Northern trains per day, and the Darlington-York section has no Northern service at all!
Only Darlington itself has frequent Northern services, but those generally don’t run on the ECML.
Good video
Accrington
brilliant vlog
I kinda wana visit now
Nick the hump on a platform is called a Harrington hump .
YAY! PRIDE TRAIN! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🩵🤍🩷
AND THE NORTHERN BELLE! Aye! YAS for awesome cool trains!
Just yesterday, I saw the pride pendolino at Birmingham New Street, happy there are more pride trains out there!
It was my birthday too how nice of it to show up!
3:16 I think anyone from Northumberland will disagree with you on this one 😭
Will you be trying to be on the first public northern service on the northumberland line?
What do use to work out what sets are being used i.e pride train or when first class is declassified?
I presume you and Natt are fans of JetLag the Game and Sam Denny. If so, I hope you're a Nebula subscriber!!! If not, it's cool, and Wendover, TLDR, and other Nebula channels have really great sign up desks in their RUclips videos
Martha is the best band from Durham
Oh how i want you to team up with jetlag. You and Nat vs them around The UK.
did you hear that 507001 and 507018 derailed at west kirkby this morning?
*West Kirby
Link to Natt's previous attempt? \m/
WE'RE IN THE SNACK ZONE BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I'll get aclington re-recorded just for you 🤣
Nahhh, Peter's already had to do enough re-recording at this point 🤣
I'll let him off!
Jamie? I feel like I'm out of the loop on something...
Not AccRINGton.
Ashghanistan is an absolute dump. Avoid it 😂😂😂
Ashington a nice place? Don't go :)
wooo gay train
Mmmmm
Yea!
There's a bus version of realtimetrains called bustimes. Hope this helps :)
If you already knew, then sorry...
Yes! I used that for tracking the buses, making sure they did exist 🤣
