Honestly as a natural wavy, I feel like this tutorial is more aimed at straight haired folks who want to create waves and not so much at wavies who want more defined waves. Also... curls are not the same as waves. If it doesn't curl from the root, it's wavy. Overtyping is a huge problem in the hair care community, especially with the prevalence of CGM despite it not being a good routine for most people and certainly not for wavies.
I used to have super curly hair but it didn't always necessarily 'curl from the root'. A curl is a type of spiral. Wave is just a zigzag. But I had long thick very curly hair so the weight can pull down from the root making it less curly at the root sometimes. Just because it doesn't appear curly out of the head doesn't necessarily mean it isn't curly hair though.

Blowing upwards is okay Brad is being dramatic. It helps a lot with volume, and all depends on what your goal is with your curls. As long as you are gentle there are so many more ways to diffuse your hair that give so many different results. As a curly girl I experiment all the time with new methods I come up with for fun and get great results. Frizz will mostly happen if there isn’t enough product in your hair to start and it isn’t moisturized.
Thank you for this! Very educational! I just bought a new blow dryer and my naturally curly fiancé with gorgeous hair tells me his family has always used it on the scalp and to comb their hair to make it dry faster. He had no idea how to use it correctly.
My hair is naturally curly, and I cannot live without my diffuser, and I use a Denman brush and a really good gel. If I do to much scrunching I’ll be one big frizz head. I do not fuzz with my hair to much with running my hands and fingers throughout my hair as well. I flip my head upside down and diffuse it.
Hmmm I think it really depends on your hair. I don’t have time so I use high heat high speed & don’t really have frizzy hair because of the cast from products. And if you’re gentle when drying upwards, it’s a great way to get the volume you may want instead of definition because curly girls may want different things!
Other tips if ur doing it at home. - hang ur head upside down while diffusing. This will give u more plump roots and will help ur hair drying quicker. - products are important. Recommend a moose and a curling creme with a heat protectant. Gel is also excellent if u want the best anti frizz, particularly a slightly runny one. - start the ends slightly so the curl forms and has its shape, but only til then. Then work on the roots - handle the hair as if its fragile. Otherwise you'll just get frizz. - in the shower brush ur hair while wet, hang ur head upside down and then gently use a widetooth comb to comb from the roots and backwards. This will give u root lift and make it easier to dry. - when drying the back, lean back so its easier and sits nicer. Those are the usual tips i give, since im a hairdresser. Hope they help.
How about a video on using diffusers on people with truly curly hair? I suspect most regular diffuser users tend to have curly hair, rather than wavy. So many hair styling videos are very straight-hair-centric.
Then go watch videos with curly haired people there are lots of them. And I wouldn't be so sure about your suspicions. Wavy hair is incredibly hard to style, and diffusing helps a lot. If you do one slight thing wrong on wavy hair, you kill the wave completely. Waves are temperamental I find. I'd much rather have curly hair.
@@CallMeGameGirl 😂 come get you some curly hair then. We can switch. No take backs tho 🙅🏽♀️. If you think waves are temperamental, you gonna love these curls
Right??? I guarantee none of his advice would actually work on curly hair...like every stylist I have been to makes my hair look like ramen noodles because they don't know how to do it
Her head should be upside down, full effing stop. I have naturally curly hair, I love my curls and no stylist has ever had a clue. Brad, I had high hopes for you. If we use high heat it’s because we need to dry it before the weight of the water and products pull the curls out. More heat protection over more products, any day.
Thank you for this tutorial for diffusing curly hair. I find very few professionals address this issue and found it really helpful. Apologies for the late reply. I only came across this content recently.
CURLY HAIR AND STRAIGHT HAIR ARE DIFFERENT! Normally love your videos. Sorry, but you are not a pro curly hair stylist. Please stick to straight hair and coloring stuff.
I have straight hair and using a bit of wave tech without even any styling has been amazing. The only downside is I think I might be slightly allergic to one of the ingredients because my skin gets incredibly itchy. :( So, back to square one on finding a good product for me. But I still highly highly recommend this product to anyone else!
@@TawnyEnglish yes and no, it could just be the fragrance you're sensitive to. it could be anything but im personally extra sensitive to certain fragrances!
I use briogeo and despite it being everything free, I still can get sores on my scalp. So I don't touch my scalp with it and wash my scalp with another shampoo. I'm super sensitive to any fragrance
I have to say this technique worked really well on my wavy hair! I'd been doing it the "wrong" way for the last 2 years. No wonder my hair was not consistent in waviness. I agree with some of the comments that this isn't for everyone. I watch a variety of videos pertaining to wavy hair and take from each what works for me. Some influencers insist their way is the only way that works and that's bullshit. If it works for them awesome and if it works for other people, that's awesome too. But to insist their way is the only way is very narrowminded....
Honestly I have 3a hair and 95% of what he says is the exact opposite of what every curly hair expert has ever said...it takes a lot of trial and error but just do what works for your hair whether it's "right" or "wrong"
Before I watch, I just bought one. Was so excited to use it & I 🥴 did not pay attention to a single vid I watched. Just fast forwarded to see the results. Bc u know? It's the internet. Instant gratification. I really thought it was self explanatory but I guess it really is in the technique. Prob finding what's more suitable to ur hair texture. For ppl who lack patience& not even know what they're doing 🙋🏻♀️, I was like wth. I was better off just spraying junk in my hair & just manually scrunching. Now my hair feels sticky, crunchy, nappy & it's like thicc, lol. Idk I don't actually want That much volume.
Hey, could you please considering making fragrance free versions of some of your products? I have wavy to curly hair, and since figuring out that I'm sensitive to fragrance, I have noticed that there are very few products out there that are truly fragrance free, and even fewer developed for different hair types. I even went looking in a Sally's, and the person working there literally had no clue what I meant by fragrance free. She picked up a bottle and was like, "This one doesn't have a very strong scent." And I was like, 🤔 "Okay, but that's not going stop it from irritating my scalp to where I want to rip my hair out" 👀 I also got my hair cut, and the salon had exactly 0 products that were safe to use on my hair. I'm in a Facebook support group with almost 800 members, helping each other figure out which brands are actually safe, and which brands are just arbitrarily slapping "free & clear" on their packaging just to make money. I can count on one hand how many fragrance free hair care products are available. It would just be nice to have more options.
3 Tbsp of epsom salt dissolved in distilled water is also a great wave spray and won't dry out your hair like regular salt. Better yet, dissolve it in aloe vera juice or rose water and you'll have an awesome leave-in conditioner.
Good idea! I've been cheap and always just add distilled water to the last bit of leave-in conditioner and use that as a spray for between wash day... ahum... days.
It’s funny because as someone with curly hair a lot of these techniques I learned instinctively through trial and error. But some people, my mom for example, really need videos like this. Even though we have the same hair she’s never learned how to manage her curls
As a wavy, my ends are dry and my roots to mids are oily. Air drying takes at least an hour, and I have a lot of very fine hair. I've found over the years that I can get more curl out of my hair than my stylists.
I have wavy hair as well (thick/frizzy/kinda course) & I used to have this issue as well, my ends used to split around mid/longish length. Nowww, my hair is finally long!!! I took Brad’s shampoo techniques (he has a video on this) & I swear, it changed my hair forever! Lol I’ve been shampooing how he says for many many months now. I brush my hair in the shower to spread the shampoo when rinsing (his video doesn’t say this, this is just my technique lol). His video says to only put shampoo on the scalp. Scrub side to side (NOT in a circle motion). Then while rinsing, spread the shampoo towards the ends. Shampoo & scrub on ur scalp and not on ur mid to ends will help ur hair not get stripped of the oils it needs. On the days when u don’t wash ur hair, brush your hair from scalp to ends to spread out the oils. This really changed my hair health. I am so glad something finally worked for my wavy/frizzy/course hair… to have less breakage overall, healthier/better looking hair that can finally grow long, I had to share with you!! I hope this helps 🙂🙂😊😊💖
I coil my hair right into the diffuser. It works really well actually. I will say that I do get some frizz, but after a couple of hours it’s gone. I tried your technique this morning and I do think it eliminated the frizz, but it took FOREVER!!! If I don’t have anywhere to be for a awhile I’m sticking with my technique- but if I am headed out soon I’m going to use your technique since I wouldn’t have time to wait for my hair to de-frizz.
This diffusing technique changed my life! I used to have such flat roots and didn’t know how to lift them without overworking the hair and causing crazy frizz. Thanks Brad!
Brad… I really wish you wouldn’t spread misinformation about curly hair. Curly girls have been dealing with that for decades. Know what you know… and know what you don’t know.
Can you show how to sleep in curly hair? Or even just how to revitalise it the next day? My hair is naturally like that and day 2 after I was is always a disaster
Loose ponytail at the top of your head Cover hair with satin silk scarf or w/e you got. Next day finger detangle any really annoying and obvious tangles, buy a curly girl detangle or moisturizering mist and spray on parts that need taming and reshaping. If you don’t want that, you can use a conditioner and water mixture in a spray/mist bottle then style with regular products Also, keep in mind, rewetting hair can reactivate curly products so you won’t need much the next time. (I typically use a holding product here at the end like gel) Diffuse on low. Cool shot hair Use an oil to fluff and separate curls for volume as needed. Shake. And pick if needed or desired. Lay edges if desired of needed. Done. That’s how I do mine Edit: can’t type English
My hair is very strangely changing texture (it would easily curl up and have beautiful waves, now it's kind of a 2A to straight) and I really didn't want to lose my beautiful texture, I'ma try out this technique as one of my last tries, hope ot works, wish me luck ♥️
Check out Manes by Mell. She is also a hairdresser, but she specializes in curly hair. I’ve learned so much from her and I have been able to really bring life back into my naturally curly hair that I had abused for years by straightening almost daily.
Thankfully I changed hairdresser because she used to have me put my head upside down and do it upwards. I was doing the same way thinking that was right
If I received a single penny every time I saw someone use one of those dyson diffusers incorrectly, I would still be not able to afford a dyson diffuser
My hair is very fine & extremely dry & frizzy. I have been trying to learn how to manage my natural curls/waves & it’s been so overwhelming with what to do & what products to use. Whew
UPDATE: Bought that foam & it is the BEST PRODUCT I’ve ever used in my life!! Followed all the tips on using the diffuser & I am SO happy with the results 💗💗💗💗
I mean..okay, doing it upwards with the warmest setting might make my hair more frizzy but for someone who has a few and thin hair it also adds volume, what i love. Or what should i do to avoid the flat look? Also, why is my hair curly but straight only at the back of my head? 😭
As a curly girl my big tip would be to always diffuse the hair while sopping wet. After I get my hair cut I always ask them to wet it back down before drying and I always dry with my hair flipped over upside down. Also DONT touch! Leave the diffuser to do the work from sopping wet to dry!!! Drives me MAD when hairdressers touch and touch and you watch it get bigger bigger and bigger and then they say “your hair isn’t really that curly” and I’m like….. no sh**!!!
am i like the only one who doesn’t like how wave tech makes my hair feel ? 😔 I bought it and used it and it just makes my hair feel so oily especially on the roots , 😔💔 so I tried putting on a little , same thing and I’m depressed bc I really want to use it but I hate the feel and look of oily hair
Omg epic tutorial 🎉❤ finally my ends look full and my hair was amazing thanks to you!!! I'll watch you every morning when I do my hair ❤🎉 much love and respect 🙏
Right, waves. And by waves you mean 2A hair because you've been proven in this video and last video to not know much when it comes to anything but straight hair.
Kind of feels like a cheat. I was hoping for a video that showed me how to diffuse dry my curly hair and I see a video on how to diffuse straight hair to make it look wavy. Very disappointed here got to admit.
Honestly, I think it depends on the curl type. For me, I use the highest speed setting and low heat. I also blow upwards, because it adds the volume that I like. I think that if the hair dries frizzy while blowing upwards, you’re not using really good products? Or maybe you’re not properly conditioning it? (aka moisturizing it) However, I think that using the highest speed and blowing upwards isn’t so bad if the curl type is tighter.
PLEASE make the video testing out the different diffusers/dryers! I've only recently been wanting to embrace my wavy/curls, but there are so many diffusers that I feel overwhelmed. (Heck, if any wavy/curly peeps are reading this... give me recommendations on something not too $$$)
Any basic drugstore mousse will achieve this. It still looks dry and matte, too. One brush and it'll be straight again. Love Brad but this was way too salesy.
I was thinking "do you have to disclose an ad if it's your own company 👀" lol. Like i get it, get your paycheck, but also maybe throw in a third party product once in a while so it's not as obvious?
I love Brad.....but I just feel like 90% of the time he is just way off base when he talks about curly hair. Curly hair is soooooo different from person to person, to only showcase one way of styling as "the right way" is just misleading.
Started wearing my natural hair recently and literally just bought myself a blow dryer and matching diffuser specifically for curly wavy hair for the first time to try. I refuse to use it till Christmas but this is super handy. Thank you!

‘Blowing upwards’ with a diffuser is a very common technique in curly salons. These stylists aren’t doing it wrong. It’s not just ‘luck’ that their clients’ hair turns out good, as Brad suggests. THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES BECAUSE YOUR CLIENT IS SO MY HAIR… NOW I CAN REALLY MAKE MY HAIR WORK!!! LOVE YOU TO THE MOON BEAUTIFUL!!♥️
Then work on the roots
- handle the hair as if its fragile.
Hope they help.
thank you :))))
How about a video on using diffusers on people with truly curly hair? I suspect most regular diffuser users tend to have curly hair, rather than wavy. So many hair styling videos are very straight-hair-centric.
In what world is wavy hair straight?
Yes like a course, thick, curly, frizz prone model would make this video much better
I diffused my hair for first time and I'm obsessed
Thank you for this video. Im so awful at diffusing
Please stick to straight hair and coloring stuff.
literally just bought a diffuser today and then this goes up thankyou brad xxx
I have straight hair and using a bit of wave tech without even any styling has been amazing. The only downside is I think I might be slightly allergic to one of the ingredients because my skin gets incredibly itchy. :( So, back to square one on finding a good product for me. But I still highly highly recommend this product to anyone else!
Not saying that it is this ingredients but it might be the Bergamont that’s in that product
@@jeffdiggs7030 is that a common allergen?
@@TawnyEnglish yes and no, it could just be the fragrance you're sensitive to. it could be anything but im personally extra sensitive to certain fragrances!
I use briogeo and despite it being everything free, I still can get sores on my scalp. So I don't touch my scalp with it and wash my scalp with another shampoo. I'm super sensitive to any fragrance
My scalp gets soooo itchy and and greasy it’s embarrassing and I don’t even use that much
OK you got me- I have 2c hair and I HAVE to see what wave tech does with my hair. I've been pretty happy with my products and routine so we will see!
Try this technique
I dont trust Brad with curls he is speeking a lot of bs.

I’ve never really known how to use it 😭 I feel dumb now but I’m excited to see what difference this will make!
Manes by mell goes into diffusing in more detail, you should check out her chanel as ell :)
Honestly I have 3a hair and 95% of what he says is the exact opposite of what every curly hair expert has ever said...it takes a lot of trial and error but just do what works for your hair whether it's "right" or "wrong"
@@user-zh2cx9vv2s was about to comment about my mane girl mell lol
Good idea! I've been cheap and always just add distilled water to the last bit of leave-in conditioner and use that as a spray for between wash day... ahum... days.
does it have to be distilled water, will regular filtered water not work?
I have always diffused up without any frizz but I don’t dry it completely dry. I leave it just a tad bit dry and I end up with beautiful curls.
I’m sorry but I totally disagree the type of diffuser makes all the difference in the world especially if you have lots of hair.
It’s funny because as someone with curly hair a lot of these techniques I learned instinctively through trial and error. But some people, my mom for example, really need videos like this. Even though we have the same hair she’s never learned how to manage her curls
I literally thought diffusing does not work for me until I saw this video. THANK YOUUU
I watch these for my curly hair wife lol gotta keep up

Brad makes such pretty hair! 💜
Wow Brad thank you for giving us your knowledge holy crap ❤️ this was SO helpful
Flip the head upside down, all the hair from side to side with the diffuser for more volume too!!

Can you show how to sleep in curly hair? Or even just how to revitalise it the next day? My hair is naturally like that and day 2 after I was is always a disaster
Loose ponytail at the top of your head
Cover hair with satin silk scarf or w/e you got.
Next day finger detangle any really annoying and obvious tangles, buy a curly girl detangle or moisturizering mist and spray on parts that need taming and reshaping. If you don’t want that, you can use a conditioner and water mixture in a spray/mist bottle then style with regular products
Also, keep in mind, rewetting hair can reactivate curly products so you won’t need much the next time. (I typically use a holding product here at the end like gel)
Diffuse on low. Cool shot hair
Use an oil to fluff and separate curls for volume as needed.
Shake. And pick if needed or desired.
Lay edges if desired of needed.
Done. That’s how I do mine
Edit: can’t type English

Check out Manes by Mell. She is also a hairdresser, but she specializes in curly hair. I’ve learned so much from her and I have been able to really bring life back into my naturally curly hair that I had abused for years by straightening almost daily.
Thankfully I changed hairdresser because she used to have me put my head upside down and do it upwards. I was doing the same way thinking that was right
I'm literally in love with you! I've been experimenting with diffuser & this could not have come at a more perfect time!
I’m sold. Getting wave tech 🙌🏻
If I received a single penny every time I saw someone use one of those dyson diffusers incorrectly, I would still be not able to afford a dyson diffuser
OMG I love you ❤️ thank you. This was much needed for me
My hair is very fine & extremely dry & frizzy.
The back of my head is straight too!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. My curls are so uneven.
Brad I wanna see your hair curly! 👅Lil Justin Timberlake vibe 😍
Today I finally made my best wavy hairstyle ever. Thank you Brad, you are the best!!! I wish I could show the picture:)
This doesn’t work for everyone tho. Curly hair has different types and structures so it’s not the same process.
Drives me MAD when hairdressers touch and touch and you watch it get bigger bigger and bigger and then they say “your hair isn’t really that curly” and I’m like….. no sh**!!!
Otay I stopped using diffusers because of frizz. I would love to see a hot sock vid tutorial 😍
Yes you can blow upwards but not in the very beginning you can actually do it in the end or when the hair is 70% dry and roots are 90% dry
am i like the only one who doesn’t like how wave tech makes my hair feel ? 😔 I bought it and used it and it just makes my hair feel so oily especially on the roots , 😔💔 so I tried putting on a little , same thing and I’m depressed bc I really want to use it but I hate the feel and look of oily hair

Right, waves. And by waves you mean 2A hair because you've been proven in this video and last video to not know much when it comes to anything but straight hair.
I just found out I really had curly hair when I was 40. I'm receiving my diffuser in the mail today! Now this video pops up. I'm paying attention. 😁

@@kelseyoakes803 already had, but will do! 😇
Kind of feels like a cheat. I was hoping for a video that showed me how to diffuse dry my curly hair and I see a video on how to diffuse straight hair to make it look wavy. Very disappointed here got to admit.
I thought I hated my diffuser because I was taught wrong!! Thank you Brad!!!
(Heck, if any wavy/curly peeps are reading this... give me recommendations on something not too $$$)
Look up Penny Tovar and Bianca Renee. Maintain good curly doesn’t have to be expensive and they recommend great affordable options.
"That way you're not creating a nest of grossness on your head" 😂😂 Thank you for that lol. That's the last thing i want
The timing is perfect for this video... I just got a diffuser for myself to try and tame my curly hair!
I needed thisss. My waves are frizzy and they don’t hold.
I love Brad.....but I just feel like 90% of the time he is just way off base when he talks about curly hair. Curly hair is soooooo different from person to person, to only showcase one way of styling as "the right way" is just misleading.
I'm interested in the method but it kinda seems difficult to achieve by yourself and especially if your hair is thicker and longer ),:
would have been interesting to see this on extremely long hair. I have to scrunch mine up and shove it in the diffuser just to get all my hair dry.
I would be curious about your take on LUS
Herbal essence has great curl mousses for a fraction of the cost!
Yesssss.. Thanks Brad I needed this
Started wearing my natural hair recently and literally just bought myself a blow dryer and matching diffuser specifically for curly wavy hair for the first time to try. I refuse to use it till Christmas but this is super handy. Thank you!

I literally wake up with my hair looking like that and her hair still looks better. 😂😭😭
‘Blowing upwards’ with a diffuser is a very common technique in curly salons. These stylists aren’t doing it wrong. It’s not just ‘luck’ that their clients’ hair turns out good, as Brad suggests. It’s about timing, proper technique, and appropriate product application. Manes by Mell makes more informative videos on this.
