They're really bonkers back then with old black cleaver + crit build + flat ad runes or flat crit runes. Insert xz in your games for maximum game toxicity.

I know you said this isn't very mechanical, but he's really spacing his autos and animation cancelling really well. The increase in damage from doing this vs not would be really noticeable.

Just tried it for myself and I gotta say, it's as good as said in the video. One of first ever games as Olaf and first attempt at Crit Olaf resulted in a 20/4/6 total carry. Super fun and super strong.
Olaf is one of those I tend to do too well with despite only playing him occationally, tri/gore/stride-builds. I got stomped with him before the rework. Honestly he's (hidden?) OP now because there's nearly no counterplay as soon as he ults and sticks to you.
Fun fact: on Wild Rift(LOL mobile) we have an item called Solari chargeblade. It was recently reworked due to how broken it was but before its rework its passive gave you 25% crit everytime you cast an ability which resets when you do crit damage. It was intended for champs like lucian and xayah who were ability dependent but we ended up with champs like Shyv, riven, Olaf and yasuo getting 100% crit with 1 item. So imagine olafs brusier build but with the added benefit of nuking people with crit.

I’ve tested it, it isn’t like you can 1v1 every top laner since the start, but if you wait for the serrated and poke them down with Q, you can go in and easily finish them. Shieldbow is probably the biggest powerspike and after that, you’re just stronger and stronger. I’m plat 1 and I managed to get myself fed a lot of times, then you can easily carry for some free LP.
Till the last 20s of the video I was thinking how the heck is he gonna deal with tryndamere? Crit Olaf is basically trynda without death immunity . When u said he bans tryndamere, it all finally made sense
Welp there goes my theory. I actually considered this off-meta strat while playing around with Olaf in practice tool. He has a lot of the necessary tools to make it work but I just never bothered to try it. Glad to see it tested now though cus I know what I'm playing for a while. Also 3:05 seeing as assassin get bursted never gets old.
Had a match as kayle V Olaf (gold 3) yesterday, was the weirdest match I've had in years on top lane, had no idea chimes put out this video, unknowingly went cull + defensive runes, knowing he's gonna be a beast early, event went first item oblivion, tried my best to be under turret and bait the axes, truly a miracle I won that

Kinda funny that the old tactic to burst them before down before they can outplay you still works even in this durability patch but then I remember they also made bruisers even tougher so they can build more dmg. Go figure.
Kled is horrendously bad, isn’t strong early as a early game champ, the only top laner of his class with no armor shred built in(even tho he’s an auto attacker), doesn’t scale in the slightest, is the buggiest champ, only wins against aatrox, and all his items and even runes got nerfed. You could never pick Kled in high elo such as challenger and EVER casually “get 5 more Pentas today”. That’s why he doesn’t play him that’s why NOBODY plays him.
problem is, riot needed to kill him for...no reason lmao, like it was the patch yone and yas got buffs while sitting at 55% win rate, and they went like, ahh he counters them, and has 48% win rate and is played only by onetricks, lets kill the champ. i dunno. just sad
This was like season 1-2 strategy on olaf... you builded 2 Bloodthirsters and 2 phantoms and you were unstoppable :D good old days and yeah looks awsome this guy makes it work :D
same items but trynd, 2 phantom dancers, 2 bloodthirsters, 1 IE and of course last whisper, I 2.5 shot a full tank malphite back then. I think I never saw anyone that sells boots for 6 items back then
I’ve played Olaf like this for years. It is VERY powerful. I personally take ghost and ignite, and instead of red side, I use Confitioning and Revitalize.

I used to rush old Tiamat into Hydra to start and max e into all matchups for big burst, but Olaf's E has had a damage nerf since than, and since watching this video when I commented, I'ved been rushing Dirk into Sheildbow. Into an enemy like say a Yorick, I'll get the dirk and Tiamat (to cleave if trapped in his circle) than do Shieldbow than finish Ravenous into Collector. Gotta say, Dirk>Sheildbow>Collector is still pretty OP. Where this video reccomends Death's Dance, I just love how Hydra feels on Olaf so I swap DD for Hydra. DD IS really good on Olaf tho. Also, as of the last few days I've been running red side secondary runes as outlined in this video. It makes a noticable difference in the mid to late game, and I'm sure the challenger who made the rune/build did this to compensate for how Olaf is SUPPOSED to fall off late game. I've been going Ulti Hunter+Eyeball OR AGAINT FAST ASS LANERS LIKE QUINN TOP than I'll go Blue side secondary going Magical Footwear+Approach Velocity and take Ghost+Flash. While the blue side secondary makes you the fastest Olaf around, that red side secondary snowball power is pretty insane.
I think Crit Olaf still works. Just need a few item replacement. Stormrazor -> Ionian Boots/Berserker Greaves -> IE or Galeforce -> Immortal Shieldbow -> The Collector -> Lord Dominik's Regards. (Which either order is fine) Got 25/12/18 from my last game with it.
Decided to try this build out after failing my promos for silver, i immediately started dominating and won my promos. Im 6-1 with Olaf so far. only lost against a Gnar. but my lord is this build strong!
Can't believe I played against this guy in FLEX on EUNE server yesterday. Damn it was so tilting to lane with Shen against a Crit Olaf. But yes we managed to win due to stacking up.
You know whats crazy? When olaf got a rework first thing i did was try a full crit build on him in practice stage to test it out, i thought it was great auto attack damage build, but all abilities were sooo high cd. So i dropped it... guess i should have kept trying it lol
As someone who has abused the shit out of reworked Olaf for free PDL, this crit build is surprisingly strong, and the fact that the runes aren't that different from the meta runes means that If I know I wont snowball I build the standard build, works even when I tried it out in SoloQ at low D3.
The guide is legit. I followed this guide exactly and yuumi attached to my belt from 12 min onwards. Run into 4 enemies inside dragon pit and killed them all while I still have half hp. This guy is basically troll warlord from dota2 with bkb as ulti.
Back when i first started playing league, I’d always play olaf top and me being in love with crit and attack speed, I’d always buy those items. But I was absolute garbage at the game so my teammates were not too friendly :(
In case people are searching for the "new" build, Get a Longsword in easy matchups or Doransw in fight heavy lanes or Shield when ranged/poke First item Dirk so your damage go through armor. This is the point you should fight after breaking a freeze or dive eith your jungles. After that build Shieldbow for the added survivability and damage. Now you need to choose between high damage or cdr. IE if you can nuke people or Navori if you need to stay on tankier people Finish your Dirk into Collector Then its situational. If you're ahead, just go Bloodthirster and Guardian Angel. If there is lots of ad dps, go Deathdance and either GA or Sterak. Against AP, any MR adc/assassin item, just dont waste money on QSS, since the runes should make your ult come back faster
I was just shaking my head the whole time I was watching those clips. It was a montage of "I'm not playing the same LoL that you are playing" clips. Then there was the comment about teleporting to bot lane, running STRAIGHT at the enemy carry, taking the tower from your hapless bot laners, and laughing while you leave to probably do the same thing mid with your massive gold and level advantage. Some people just want to watch the world burn.
I used to run a variant of this as my secret weapon in aram games with bloodthirster, when you press r and start attacking enemies and get like 400 hp back per hit it's way too entertaining, glad to see it's actually viable
Had the great misfortune of playing with this guy. He ran it down in a normal game because he wanted to finish faster so he could play ranked again after he was suspended. Fun stuff.
and this is why support teemo is even better in the new patch ran into 2 top olaf (tho only 1 of them was crit build) and the moment the laning phase ended they lost their lead cause blind spam and 2v1s
if the enemy team comp is approachable by olaf in melee range and arent all mobile assasins, this build will actually grant olaf the triple durability a tank build would have, because of lifesteal and the two shields from BT and shieldbow, and that's the only reason he's been spammed in challenger elo for a while now, tank olaf cant single anyone out and he wont have any impact with his autos neither damage wise nor lifesteal wise, playing any other build on olaf that isnt FULLY relying on him dealing high amounts of damage and healing from that, youre wasting all of his kit away. His w, his passive, his e (auto attack cooldown reduction) dont scale with bonus hp and armor, they scale and keep you alive for longer periods based on damage output, so olaf is by default only meant to be played like that, the only parameter he needs to set is range, if the enemy comp has much mobility your hands are tied, but if they dont, youre literally unstopable. Its unhealthy gameplay but fun nonetheless, the meta now heavily revolves around CC and olaf has a straight bypass that can surprise everyone and mess the enemy team's plan very easily, but also the meta also revolves too heavily around mobility, so paradoxically olaf shouldnt have a high wr in high elo, the only reason again he's spammed in korean challenger, is because even there he is extremely surprising and unpredictable, taking 6k dmg in a fight and surviving, because of unpredictable healing and damage not even the top players can maneuver.
I started maining Olaf recently and Ive never played with flash, always ghost ignite or ghost tp. Flash seems so good on him I gotta start using it now
I played against an olad onetrick running this build in lower elo that got super fed in laning phase. It actually isn't great down in plat and below because of how long games end up going and because you can't really count on your teammates to play well. That crazy fed olaf actually became pretty useless once we stalled the game and everyone got items. We just bursted him every fight and then turned on his team. If you don't have another person who can hard carry after the enemy uses all their cd's to burst you, the olad build ends up falling off if the enemy stalls until everyone is on 6 items.
Ever since immortal shieldbow had reworked my playthrough in olaf is drastically changed. The lost of attack speed in immortal shield made olaf very slow in attacking. In my recent 10 games so far i played with CRIT Olaf i had 4 wins and 6 lost. I doubt this is still Best OFF Meta
me too now i max w for more attack speed sad but it's not that bad because when you think about it your e doesn't crit so you aa deal more damage than e (except against tank). But yeah crit olaf is now a lot weaker.

I played against this yesterday in a ranked game and wondered wtf he was doing. He also tried to fight me level 1 when I was Darius, and he ended up inting the whole game.
Im a d1 jg/mid main, this looked like alot of fun to me and i have played olaf in the jg a bunch over the season. Currently 2/0 on it you just become a monster in the side lanes and can easily kill someone and take full tower and inhib then reset and go right back for nexus towers and end. 10/10 build
Im also thinking bro how effective do you think Crit Olaf would be in the Jungle? Its maybe easier to get kills in lane....since you outclass them from level 1.

I can promise you, it is not easy to click that damn timer button in game. The timer doesnt start for me till I lock the screen on me and then try and click the timer.
invading enemy jungle when you dominate lane and rift herald is what makes him easily a master tier toplaner. i play in low diamond and never see toplaners focus on funneling themself like this. i immediately notice when a toplaner is a smurf because of how devastating it is when they start to build their influence into the enemy jungle. i like to think low elo toplaners think of themself as the prey of junglers while high elo junglers are the jungle hunters.

yeah but at lower ranks where the player cant do this, the enemy will also be a worse player so it probably balances out.

I used to rush old Tiamat into Hydra to start and max e into all matchups for big burst, but Olaf's E has had a damage nerf since than, and since watching this video when I commented, I'ved been rushing Dirk into Sheildbow. Into an enemy like say a Yorick, I'll get the dirk and Tiamat (to cleave if trapped in his circle) than do Shieldbow than finish Ravenous into Collector.
Gotta say, Dirk>Sheildbow>Collector is still pretty OP. Where this video reccomends Death's Dance, I just love how Hydra feels on Olaf so I swap DD for Hydra. DD IS really good on Olaf tho.
Also, as of the last few days I've been running red side secondary runes as outlined in this video. It makes a noticable difference in the mid to late game, and I'm sure the challenger who made the rune/build did this to compensate for how Olaf is SUPPOSED to fall off late game. I've been going Ulti Hunter+Eyeball OR AGAINT FAST ASS LANERS LIKE QUINN TOP than I'll go Blue side secondary going Magical Footwear+Approach Velocity and take Ghost+Flash. While the blue side secondary makes you the fastest Olaf around, that red side secondary snowball power is pretty insane.
I think Crit Olaf still works. Just need a few item replacement.
Stormrazor -> Ionian Boots/Berserker Greaves -> IE or Galeforce -> Immortal Shieldbow -> The Collector -> Lord Dominik's Regards. (Which either order is fine)

Decided to try this build out after failing my promos for silver, i immediately started dominating and won my promos. Im 6-1 with Olaf so far. only lost against a Gnar. but my lord is this build strong!
Against gnar You need mobility boots or stride breaker

You know whats crazy? When olaf got a rework first thing i did was try a full crit build on him in practice stage to test it out, i thought it was great auto attack damage build, but all abilities were sooo high cd. So i dropped it... guess i should have kept trying it lol

As someone who has abused the shit out of reworked Olaf for free PDL, this crit build is surprisingly strong, and the fact that the runes aren't that different from the meta runes means that If I know I wont snowball I build the standard build, works even when I tried it out in SoloQ at low D3.
The guide is legit. I followed this guide exactly and yuumi attached to my belt from 12 min onwards. Run into 4 enemies inside dragon pit and killed them all while I still have half hp. This guy is basically troll warlord from dota2 with bkb as ulti.
Back when i first started playing league, I’d always play olaf top and me being in love with crit and attack speed, I’d always buy those items. But I was absolute garbage at the game so my teammates were not too friendly :(
In case people are searching for the "new" build,
Get a Longsword in easy matchups or Doransw in fight heavy lanes or Shield when ranged/poke
First item Dirk so your damage go through armor. This is the point you should fight after breaking a freeze or dive eith your jungles.
After that build Shieldbow for the added survivability and damage.
Now you need to choose between high damage or cdr. IE if you can nuke people or Navori if you need to stay on tankier people
Finish your Dirk into Collector
Then its situational. If you're ahead, just go Bloodthirster and Guardian Angel. If there is lots of ad dps, go Deathdance and either GA or Sterak. Against AP, any MR adc/assassin item, just dont waste money on QSS, since the runes should make your ult come back faster

I was just shaking my head the whole time I was watching those clips. It was a montage of "I'm not playing the same LoL that you are playing" clips.
Then there was the comment about teleporting to bot lane, running STRAIGHT at the enemy carry, taking the tower from your hapless bot laners, and laughing while you leave to probably do the same thing mid with your massive gold and level advantage. Some people just want to watch the world burn.

I used to run a variant of this as my secret weapon in aram games with bloodthirster, when you press r and start attacking enemies and get like 400 hp back per hit it's way too entertaining, glad to see it's actually viable

if the enemy team comp is approachable by olaf in melee range and arent all mobile assasins, this build will actually grant olaf the triple durability a tank build would have, because of lifesteal and the two shields from BT and shieldbow, and that's the only reason he's been spammed in challenger elo for a while now, tank olaf cant single anyone out and he wont have any impact with his autos neither damage wise nor lifesteal wise, playing any other build on olaf that isnt FULLY relying on him dealing high amounts of damage and healing from that, youre wasting all of his kit away. His w, his passive, his e (auto attack cooldown reduction) dont scale with bonus hp and armor, they scale and keep you alive for longer periods based on damage output, so olaf is by default only meant to be played like that, the only parameter he needs to set is range, if the enemy comp has much mobility your hands are tied, but if they dont, youre literally unstopable. Its unhealthy gameplay but fun nonetheless, the meta now heavily revolves around CC and olaf has a straight bypass that can surprise everyone and mess the enemy team's plan very easily, but also the meta also revolves too heavily around mobility, so paradoxically olaf shouldnt have a high wr in high elo, the only reason again he's spammed in korean challenger, is because even there he is extremely surprising and unpredictable, taking 6k dmg in a fight and surviving, because of unpredictable healing and damage not even the top players can maneuver.
I started maining Olaf recently and Ive never played with flash, always ghost ignite or ghost tp. Flash seems so good on him I gotta start using it now
I played against an olad onetrick running this build in lower elo that got super fed in laning phase. It actually isn't great down in plat and below because of how long games end up going and because you can't really count on your teammates to play well. That crazy fed olaf actually became pretty useless once we stalled the game and everyone got items. We just bursted him every fight and then turned on his team. If you don't have another person who can hard carry after the enemy uses all their cd's to burst you, the olad build ends up falling off if the enemy stalls until everyone is on 6 items.

Ever since immortal shieldbow had reworked my playthrough in olaf is drastically changed. The lost of attack speed in immortal shield made olaf very slow in attacking. In my recent 10 games so far i played with CRIT Olaf i had 4 wins and 6 lost. I doubt this is still Best OFF Meta

me too now i max w for more attack speed sad but it's not that bad because when you think about it your e doesn't crit so you aa deal more damage than e (except against tank). But yeah crit olaf is now a lot weaker.

I played against this yesterday in a ranked game and wondered wtf he was doing. He also tried to fight me level 1 when I was Darius, and he ended up inting the whole game.
Im a d1 jg/mid main, this looked like alot of fun to me and i have played olaf in the jg a bunch over the season. Currently 2/0 on it you just become a monster in the side lanes and can easily kill someone and take full tower and inhib then reset and go right back for nexus towers and end. 10/10 build
Im also thinking bro how effective do you think Crit Olaf would be in the Jungle? Its maybe easier to get kills in lane....since you outclass them from level 1.

I can promise you, it is not easy to click that damn timer button in game. The timer doesnt start for me till I lock the screen on me and then try and click the timer.
invading enemy jungle when you dominate lane and rift herald is what makes him easily a master tier toplaner. i play in low diamond and never see toplaners focus on funneling themself like this. i immediately notice when a toplaner is a smurf because of how devastating it is when they start to build their influence into the enemy jungle. i like to think low elo toplaners think of themself as the prey of junglers while high elo junglers are the jungle hunters.
