Maya finally broke down. Her reaction was scary and not at all what her friends and family expected. Everyone grieves differently. She apparently bottle it up. Then changes character traits by doing what she normally wouldn't do. Then finally unleashes her feelings privately with her family.
I don't even know why she was still friends with Zig in the first place. He was the final straw that drove Cam into taking his life.

Honestly one of the best scenes in Degrassi, not only the scene, but the acting. This was so well done, and a huge part of grief. Degrassi can never be recreated, it really touched on alot of the diffiicult topics we want to ignore.

@@AnythingLoungeGrief is selfish. You grieve for yourself, not for others. And how you grieve is different from everybody else. And for a teenager who was falling in love at the age of 14, still figuring out who she is, and then her boyfriend commits suicide on her this storyline for Maya was amazing. Olivia always did an amazing job as Maya.
And lets not forget that suicude, even though the person thinks they are doing everyone else a favor most of the time, is the most selfish thing a person can do.
I like this scene besides when Ali and what’s his face I can’t remember argue about saying it’s their fault and they failed him

Yes. The last generation was trash. The only good character wa Miles and the show just had to make him gay. Katie got hooked on those pain killers and then was offered money on wedding vacation to hook up..and she watched Drew beat up Vince. And she date reap drunk Drew, taking his virginity. And Marisol humiliated her running for president.

@@danig342the pain of loss is hard to bare. Especially the younger you are. I imagine maya kept trying to distract herself and not think about it cause of how painful it is for her when she does think about him.
Only those who have felt the pain of loss can understand where she coming from.
We all grieve differently. Some as expected others not. Some choose denial, some push people away those close, some go goth, and so on. some even choose suicide to join their loved ones and end the pain.
She kept it bottle up till she couldn't anymore then released privately with her family.

Having gone through my own breakdown ..alone...this hits me extremely hard....you feel anger , hatred , betrayal , the emotions hit you all at once and you can't keep in , all you want to do is scream , yell , hurt yourself , and just want to let it all go....if you ever feel like this , just remember you are loved , you do not need to deal with it alone , its ok to not be ok if u need to get the pain n hurt out its ok to cry n feel plz do not hurt yourself
maya's character is masterfully written for the time this made TV screens in the 2010's.
i have so much to say, to breakdown, but all you need to realise is that she's 14, in highschool during her teenage years and has had her first bf commit suicide. the way that this is followed up on is so powerful, 16 year old me at the time did not give the writers credit at all. i just watched with confusion.
im actually so curious who wrote this storyline. i have never seen a teen written this way after such a tragic event. the fact that the majority of comments (now, and back then as well) all slandered maya speaks VOLUMES. wish people didnt look at things through a black and white lens.
it's right now all these years later that i fucking love the way they handled cam's story, and EVERYTHING that has happened because of it. A+ drama writing.
absolutely! Maya is an amazing character and imo one of the best on the entire show over all 14 seasons.
Maya didn't react at all how i expected her to after Cam was found and i found that to be way more interesting. she was sad but she expressed that sadness with this anger and hatred and it's so beautiful.
i have no idea why so many people are upset with her character for her very genuine and heartbreaking reaction to her first ever boyfriend committing suicide... it's a very realistic depiction of grief.

This scene is always emotional for me because i lost my cousin to suicide. It hits differently then when i watched it the first time.

It wasn’t good acting so I agree. It felt very forced and unnatural, but I do think that maybe she was feeling pressure since she was kinda moved into the female lead character. I really didn’t like this scene though considering Degrassi has had some absolutely amazingly powerful scenes performed by some of their actors and actresses.

i always want to like this scene and if i'm watching it in the context of the show it hits really hard, but watching it here, yeah..... she has the emotion in her voice really well at some points and the delivery of the lines too, but her facial expressions and arm waving are kind of strange

She didn't do anything. It was a pile up of a lot of things pressuring him and his hockey career and his relationship with Maya was fine but Zig ( a guy who likes her too much ) basically went and told Cam that he'd be better if he was out of everyone's lives and he took it to heart and off'd himself.
Absolutely nothing, he was depressed and anxious. He wasn't good at talking about it, and honestly people who saw him slipping could've said something. I mean the signs were there. They were cute together.
Cam could've gotten help but Zig was the one who gave him the knife. Hate Cam all you want for leaving Maya like that, but Cam's death is on Zig.

If you really watch Maya closely you can tell why she acted differently than people were expecting.
Maya was trying so hard not to think about her dead boyfriend cause it hurt so much. Completely distracting herself anyway she could. Even doing things she normally wouldn't do to get him off her mind cause of how much it hurt to think about him.
Minus the I hate him part i was listening to everything she was saying and watching her face showing her feelings. Bottling up her real feelings till she couldn't hold it back any longer then releasing her feelings in private with her family. She doesn't need the whole audience of the school watching something personal.

Cam had a hard time dealing with the pressure the hockey team was putting on him, he was away from his family (he was staying with another family while attending Degrassi), and there was relationship drama with Zig and Maya. he couldn't cope with all of it probably due to undiagnosed issues.
i really recommend watching the "Cam Saunders Suicide [Death and Dying Project]" video if you haven't already. it shows several scenes from before and after his death that show what he was feeling.

She shouldn’t blame Campbell for ending his life. She should understand that despite being traumatize and unstable from the new of his death, she falsely blames him unaware that he suffering from severe depression, stress, anxiety problems, loneliness, and an apparent psychological disorder along with zig be a jerk and that same goes for dallas who also didn’t do a proper job and it’s just make it worse for campbell.
I will always be frustrated of maya like to me it doesn’t make no sense at all.

i personally love how she reacted to his death. she was 14 and her boyfriend killed himself just when she thought things were getting better for him. anger is a perfectly normal reaction to death.
i'm pretty sure that later she gets over that anger but is still left with a lot of pain and trauma over it.
also Dallas had one of the strongest reactions to Cam's suicide and blamed himself heavily. so he does recognize that he was hurting Cam but unfortunately only after it was too late to help him.
