      it's a masterpiece yes but it wouldnt hurt if it was less lo-fi. the production/sound sorta drags down the score for me on that album

    I couldn't love these guys more. They are just love and joy. And damn good music. They are brilliant at capturing that throwback feel, without truly sounding like any older artist in particular. Some of their stuff can remind you of someone such as Todd Rundgren, but they sound like no one but themselves. And often with a contemporary spin. "Corner Of My Eye" is now one of my favorite songs of all-time. In that song I hear the spirit of Simon & Garfunkel, Beach Boys, McCartney, the Association.....and yet it's so distinctly THEM. Brian is one of my favorite tenors. Beautiful intro with his gorgeous high voice singing "I've got a wonderful feeling..." 💕👍

    I believe The Lemon Twigs solve the retro-trap by having a deep understanding of melody over chord changes and multi-instrumental talent. Being able to play a variety of instruments gives one new and interesting tools to create with and then matched with a deep knowledge of chord structure and song design

      You can tell they STUDIED Big Star, Badfinger, McCartney, Brian Wilson, Pete Townshend, Byrds, Joni Mitchell, Ron Wood, Todd Rundgren etc from an early age. They didn't just get into Zep and start a band.

    • @joshh3612
      @joshh3612 5 месяцев назад +2

      They solved the retro-trap by writing good songs, and taking influences from many different great bands as opposed to just one or two like some of the other throwback style bands tend to do.

    The Lemon Twigs are the gateway band to all those amazing 50s and 60s acts : like the Beatles, the Byrds, the Zombies, etc, etc......

    I’d love to hear some solo albums. Also Go To School is my favorite album in the world, there’s nothing like it.
    They’re awesome, their brotherly dynamic is so funny. Michael talking over Brian til he just gives up and then being upset when Brian begins tuning him out lol. Classic little brother activity

      @jacobbelyea7945 6 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah lol I didn’t phrase that one well. I was more trying to get them to explain, in their own words, what’s special about their sound, as sort of an intro for possible newcomers. Came out sounding more pointed than I intended haha, pretty easy to tell that was the first interview question I’ve ever asked anyone. Still super happy with how this interview went though, it was really sick to meet a band that’s meant so much to me for years now.

    • @jprg1966
      @jprg1966 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@jacobbelyea7945 It's absolutely a fair question to ask. Bands with such a pronounced retro style (both sonically and visually) are threading a fine needle before they are considered a tribute act, fair or not. I think the brothers understood you weren't accusing them of falling into that category.
