You're so special! I just ordered from your website and am so excited to start working with the hexiform! I took my 87 year old Mom to lunch yesterday & as we discussed my quilting (she can no longer quilt) I realized that she wanted to keep hand sewing. So I asked her if she was interested in me putting a kit together where she could do my hexie blocks for my quilts! And she was sooo happy! So I wanted to make it easier for her and thought of your hexiform option. This will make it sooo much easier for her. I searched all over the US trying to find it and came up with nothing. Then today I opened my utube and there you were...with options for me. Thank you sooo much! You made an 87 year old healthy woman sooo happy. My best wishes for you always!!
Oh what a lovely thing to read! This has made me so happy! Your mom sounds amazing, I hope she enjoys doing the blocks, what a special project. Thank you so much for supporting my shop too. Take care
Everything in this video made me feel calm: your voice, the music, the colors of the fabrics, the speed of the video... It grabbed my attention and took me to a calmer and more beautiful place than I am in now, so thank you for that!
Emma, you are in a class of your own - your explanations are so clear and detailed, and you anticipate your viewer's questions so well. You are a natural teacher. Very informative and helpful video!
Hi Emma I have only been using hexiform since I started following you on your you tube channel! I had not heard of it before but now I can't imagine sewing without it. I do still use paper but for small projects I love the hexiform. I enjoy embroidery as well and it is so much easier to embroider my pieces when using hexiform. I do not have machines of any kind nor a computer just this little tablet so I cut my paper or card shapes from greetings cards Christmas cards food packaging and brochures and magazines after drawing around my template with a pencil. This is very low tech and old fashioned and slow but I do it in small bursts so my accuracy is really good and I don't hurt my arthritic hands too much. I really am enjoying every different aspect of the hobby and no longer resent the time and effort needed to cut papers baste or whatever...all steps lead to the finished project! Thank you for this very good video...I love your videos and enjoy watching them over again while I work. God bless you from vera in Northern Ireland
Hi Vera, lovely to hear you like hexiform. And I love how you are embracing each stage of the project, I used to dislike cutting out but now I enjoy it and it makes the whole process so much more enjoyable when you embrace it all doesn’t it 🌸
Thank you so much for your lovely kind mention of our paper templates Emma, a customer just mentioned your video so I could find you :-) keep on sewing with your beautiful projects ~ Jessie x
I used to do this, in the 70s, when this was what ‘patchwork’ meant in the UK , (we didn’t call it EPP!)and the alternative was American piecing, done by hand, running stitches, by machine if you’re very brave. The patches were made by drawing around your template and cutting out, no papers, and the seam allowances were not so accurate. This has completely changed these days of course. For EPP we made our own papers from aluminium templates, before they were popular, and a local blacksmith made our templates! I found that I had a few old unused cheque books and the paper was perfect, especially for smaller patches, where thinner paper will do. If you have a fine pair of scissors, hold the paper against your metal template, and grip firmly as you cut around. If the scissors are fine enough, you can cut accurately to the edge of the metal. The only problem was to not pare metal off the template! Not difficult, quite quick and you can do it on your lap while hubby is watching the telly. I made flower garden shapes, into quilts and never pressed my matches because once surrounded the patches were crisp and taught. I never used glue. Prit sticks were just appearing, nothing like u use. Needle basted, creasing the edges as I went. I used to love pulling the papers out and see the fluid fabric I’d made. But what a good idea to glue! Hexiform looks like a thick interfacing. Love your tana lawn pieces. Beautiful! Oh your miniature pieces. This is just gorgeous! Not sure I can still see we’ll enough to try these suggestions, or even how I used to do it, but it’s lovely to see your work, thank you.
This is the most informative video for paper piecing I have ever watched. You are a wonder to me. I love the soft beautiful colors you work with. Your instructions are well thought out and simple to understand. So happy I have subscribed to your channel. Thank you so much!🥰🌹
oh thank you! I really appreciate what you have said here, I have a lot of self doubt so this really helps me. Thank you ever so much for subscribing and for your support
I’d never heard of Hexiform until I watched your channel. I ordered some and it’s great to use, as you say it gives the pieces a nice feel to them. Thank you for all your videos I love all of them and find them so relaxing 😊
Emma brilliant video. You never rush and explain so clearly aswell as given a reason why you did that action. You have taught me so much but I still wished you lived next door!,!,
I have not heard of bexeform before, definitely worth looking into. I love the liberty fabrics you have chosen, liberty is just so different isn’t it, colourful but not over the top bright. Lovely bits you have completed , and thank you for sharing with us, look forward to watching more. Only just found you.
Hi there! I put your video in the save to watch category as I have been occupied for a while but tonight I pulled it out to watch and it made me want to get out my sewing kit and get busy! You covered a lot of good points and I am happy to be listening to your calm approach to life and projects once again.
I've never heard of hexiform before! Now I'll have to look into it. I was planning my first epp quilt and was hoping to use paper, but now I want to think it over and maybe experiment with both! Your work is lovely btw and you've inspired me a lot!
that's so kind of you, hopefully in a couple of weeks they will be back, I'm just working on some digital products at the moment, but the kits will definitely be back!
Best video I have ever seen. You explain everything so well, and I really appreciate you having everything written out on the screen too. Some sounds are difficult to hear as I have ringing in my ears. Love your voice, beautiful and calming. You are amazing. 💕
Thank you for watching Valerie, and for leaving this lovely feedback, it really means a lot to me and helps me to keep making good videos. Take care and thanks again
Your work is incredible! I just love the color palette you work with! I am a newbie to the EPP, but I do really enjoy it. I haven’t tried the Hexiform yet, but it’s on my list! I love how pumped up the pieces look. It gives a much softer appearance. Thank You for all the helpful information! 💜
Thank you. I love watching you and your wonderful projects. Everything looks perfect, colors, shapes, textures. ❤ I like sewing and cross stitch. I get inspired by you.
oh my gosh Emma you are so inspiring. your projects are just so beautiful. wish we could do a zoom with you and work on our project together. you truly are inspiring ✨️ ❤️ 🙏
Thank you Emma, I found your video really helpful. I am going to try hexiform for my next project. I've tried using glue on my epp pieces and found removing the papers really difficult so I was really interested in your tip about pressing them first. 😊
Wow I had watch your video sometime ago, I watch it again and love so much your explaination I hope this time I will do paper piecing for real. Thank x
I heard you mention hexiforms on your interview with Karen Brown and I was curious what that was. Now I know I may give it a try in my next EPP project! Thank you.
This was so interesting and a joy to watch. I don't do EPP and do not hand sew, but I'm now intrigued by it and probably may pick it up some day. For now, I'll stick to your videos and enjoy learning. Thank you.
Wow really enjoyed watching your post with loads of tips. I’ve been sewing for 30 years but still learned a thing or two about patchwork so thank you and hope you’ll post again soon
Thank you for another brilliant tutorial!!! I live in Canada and I haven’t seen Hexiform here. Which is disappointing for me!! I use paper shapes cut on my Cricket machine. I have found using very strong magnets make the stitching much easier and my hand don’t hurt as much. So I’m able to sew for longer periods of time. Have a wonderful day and week. Hope you are having a wonderful summer. It is very hot here in Canada.
Awwwww. You have that Cath Kidston sewing basket. I always wanted one but the shipping and the conversion rate stopped me. This is such a great video. I’ve passed it on to girls in my circle who are hesitant to try EPP.
I have not heard of the hexiform before. I don’t go out much. I have some that are almost like cardboard and don’t like them very well, but your tips may make it easier. I’m so glad to find you and your projects are sooo beautiful. Thank you.
Hi Emma. Thank you for this great video...so informative 😊. I use a single hole punch to make a small hole in the middle of my EPP papers before using them. I find it makes them a little easier to pull out.
I so enjoyed this video and have subscribed also. I love hand stitching and always have a hexie or other EPP project going. Thank you for all the information on Hexiform. I really must try it! Take care
I love your videos and beautiful handwork! I also want to let you know there is a product similar to hexi form by Hugs and Kisses, fusible appliqué paper that you leave in. You can buy precuts or in sheets for printing on in computer. I use it for a lot of appliqué and you can leave it in the project.
Hello Emma, what a wonderful video. I am so glad I have found your channel. I didn't like EPP but with your introduction to hexiform I have tried it again. And I really like it. Thank you so much.
I just came across your video as I learn more about EPP. I'm not sure if it makes a difference for you, but I've heard if you curl your mat when removing the paper, the pieces will not curl as much. And what a good way for me to combine a new hobby (for me) and the arts and crafts stuff I already have. While I don't have the thick cutting dies, I have a small set of hexagon thin metal die so yay for being able to use one machine for different projects. I love your mini hexagon blocks. Now I just need to invest in a set of dies with a larger range, and smaller sizes. Going to try to go back and watch all your videos. I love what I've seen so far, and can't wait to see what I can learn. :D
Thank you for the explanation of paper versus hexiforms. I have started to use hexiforms and find them really useful for the smaller projects. Your explanation was concise and easily followed, thank you.x
Never heard of hexiform so will investigate. Love your tutorials🤩 I have just discovered EPP and have started my first hexi quilt. I may be gone for some time!!😁❤
I just love watching your videos! Just ordered some hexiforms to work on some presents for Christmas for some of my friends. Thank you so much for your videos!
Thank you for this wonderful video showing us paper and hexiforms, so helpful. I popped over to your shop and ordered some hexiforms, and my first ever Liberty fabric, ohhh...can hardly wait. Not sure if they sell Liberty fabric here in Norway. Have a wonderful week 😊🌼
I enjoyed that. I bought the tiny hexiform and have not decided what to do with yet, but I like that stuff. I have started a couple of cushion covers using the card (I find pound shop card is good for this) I design my shapes on the laptop, using the finest outline, print out and cut. Initially I used the glue to stabilise but started basting the fabric on, now I am going to change back over because of the great iron tip. Removing the card is not my favourite part but it does work for a lovely finish too. Thank you for putting this together, good advice and yes addictive 😁 💐
Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment Alison. It’s so nice to read about your process and what you’ve been making. Happy stitching 😊
I’m very new to EPP and find your channel very informative. I’m traveling to Italy and want to take a hand stitching project with me. I have scraps of Liberty Tana Lawn which I was thinking about making into hexies. Now, because of watching this tutorial, I’m going to look for Hexie Form in a US vendor. If I can’t find them here, I know where I can find them. Thank you❣️
I really enjoyed your video. I'm very NEW to EPP - working on my first project. I've started with paper hexies but am really intrigued with using the hexiform. I also enjoy embroidery am glad to see how you married the two together (quilting & embroidery) to create very unique items. Thank you so much for doing this! Lynn from NC USA
Hi Emma. I love your channel. I’ve learned so much from watching your videos. I am on the look for hexiform. I tried your site but everything was sold out. I don’t believe the name you gave in this video ships to Canada. I love this quilt you are working on. I might get the courage to try. Well hope you have piece and keep well. Hoping to here from you.
Hi, yes I’m not stocking it individually at the moment, just in kits due to lack of space at home. The company that makes it is called Ashmead Designs and I’m pretty sure they will post to Canada. If you email them they will be able to help you. I hope you get it sorted and start the quilt 😊🌸
Your projects are so very pretty and I am going to try and get some of that hexifoam when I finish the EPP project I am working on now. Thanks for your wonderful and helpful explanations. I sure do appreciate it.
Hi, Emma, from the USA! Can you provide information about how to order from your shop with US dollars? I am so motivated by your videos and tutorials and I’d love to try to replicate some of your projects. You’ve become a breath of fresh air for this 70++ year-old sewist. How proud your grandmother must be of you and your artistry...I do truly believe she knows your devotion to her and her art are in your heart and soul. You are a blessing to this world! Maureen Kolis
Oh what a lovely thing to say! That really means a lot, thank you Maureen. I appreciate you wanting to support my shop, thank you. The prices are in pounds but you could put the total price of what you wish to spend into google to find the dollars equivalent, that's what I do to convert it when I buy from the US. And then the card you pay with will convert it to dollars automatically. I hope that makes sense. thank you so much
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox GOOGLE IT! That’s what my grandsweeties say when I don’t know the answer! This, on my part, falls into the “DUH” category! 😂. See? You CAN teach an old girl some new tricks! Thank you!
Here in the states some quilt stores sell punches that will do the hexes. I have one that is fairly large, I think I remember it's a 1 inch. You can also buy precut papers too. But those can get pricey compared to making your own papers.
Muchas gracias Enma, me ha gustado mucho, muy clara y muy detallado. Para poder ya emprenderá el proyecto, Y también sobre todo te agradezco que tengas la traducción en Español. Para poder seguirte. Un abrazo
I've used the small hexiform from you for the sewing case design of yours and about to do the sewing box too. Love love love them! Love your videos too, so clear and so calming. Your work is adorable. Just subscribed ( I thought I was oops) Thanks for all your inspiration!
Hi Emma, thankyou for another well informed video and a look at your lovely work, I am waiting for my hexiform to arrive in the post to start a mini quilt as you have inspired me to. Happy sewing 🧵 Sue 💜
Thank you, Emma for this inspiring video. I didn’t know about hexiform but was happy to learn about. I haven’t ever made anything with hexies yet but I plan non very soon. You are so helpful!!! ❤️😍😁
It is very light so might be worth ordering from England. Also worth checking on any duty to pay which is usually over a certain limit but free under that. I love the Hexiform myself - so easy PS. I used to live in BC Canada haha, miss it.....
Hey Emma, I mainly only use papers. I tried the hexiforms but it was the 1/4 and 5/8 sizes. It is probably, me getting used to the very small sizes but it did not go well my first couple of try out pieces. I probably need to start bigger then go smaller 😁
I’m so enjoying watching and learning from your videos! I’ve a couple of questions: what is the hexiform made of and can one use felt instead? Thank you so much for all your sharing!!
Hexiform is a man made fabric, it has a woven and a fuzzy side. I would say that felt would likely be more expensive and also, possibly too thick depending on what type you get. The thinner felt might be too floppy. Hope that helps
I agree regarding sew and quilt, lovely couple. Not forgetting new little baby girl. They are both husband and wife.both go out their way to help you. They sell liberty material as well as others.
Emma, all your work is amazing 💞,just love the fabrics you use, you explain everything so well, thank you for explaining about different ways for using hexies, feel able to have a try now I have watched your video 😘x
Hi Emma you show a quilt on this video (just before you explain the sissix). Is this your design. Would love to make one like it. I agree with other comments. Lovely calm and inspiring videos. Thank you so much x
Thank you, Emma, for another inspiring and visually lovely video. I recently purchased some of the smaller hexiform shapes, as well as some Liberty fabrics. EPP is a perfect occupation for the steamy early summer weather we are having
Take care
Molly what a beautiful story, thank you for sharing. I hope your Mom is still enjoying helping you.
🤍 I'm caring for my 87 year old Mom and love that you shared this. God bless you both. 🕊️
Everything in this video made me feel calm: your voice, the music, the colors of the fabrics, the speed of the video... It grabbed my attention and took me to a calmer and more beautiful place than I am in now, so thank you for that!
I am so glad you enjoyed the video and that it made you feel calm, thank you so much for watching
I 100% agree! Great information in a calm setting. I've seen so many videos that are very "in your face" and loud and it just gives me a head ache...
Emma, you are in a class of your own - your explanations are so clear and detailed, and you anticipate your viewer's questions so well. You are a natural teacher. Very informative and helpful video!
That is such a lovely thing to say June, thank you, it really means a lot to me
Absolutely!
Thank you so much Jessie, I have been a big fan of your papers and everything else you do for a long time x
Thank you so much!
I love all your hand works. So beautiful and neat. The embroidery on the little house with little flowers are exceptional beautiful.💖
Aww thanks so much! That’s so lovely to hear and means a lot to me
When I don't feel up to sewing or cross stitch I can always EPP because of you. Great channel!!!!!
Thank you Sharyon, it's lovely to have different crafts to turn to isn't it
I never heard of hexiform. Thanks for teaching me this, I’ll see if I can find it. It does make a nice looking curved edge.

Glad you enjoyed it. Hexiform is a handmade product by a very small family company so not widely available unfortunately but they do post overseas 😊
Thank you for sharing this … so many great tips and lots of very useful information on when to consider paper vs hexiform. Love your channel 😊
Aww thank you! That means a lot
Awwwww. You have that Cath Kidston sewing basket. I always wanted one but the shipping and the conversion rate stopped me. This is such a great video. I’ve passed it on to girls in my circle who are hesitant to try EPP.

Your work is absolutely gorgeous!

Very informative content. Love your work.
I have not heard of the hexiform before. I don’t go out much. I have some that are almost like cardboard and don’t like them very well, but your tips may make it easier. I’m so glad to find you and your projects are sooo beautiful. Thank you.
Such kind words, thank you Mary
Excellent video - thank you 🙏 I love how you explain in such detail. I hope to try hexagon piecing in the near future.
aww thank you! I hope you do give it a go
thank you for your excellent tutorials. so appreciate your videos.

Thank you! From what I’ve seen it’s not the same as hexiform as it washes away doesn’t it, and it’s thinner. But thank you
Hello Emma, what a wonderful video. I am so glad I have found your channel. I didn't like EPP but with your introduction to hexiform I have tried it again. And I really like it. Thank you so much.

oh that is great that you have some dies already! Thank you so so much for watching, I hope you enjoy EPP
Thank you for the explanation of paper versus hexiforms. I have started to use hexiforms and find them really useful for the smaller projects. Your explanation was concise and easily followed, thank you.x
Lovely feedback, thank you Irene, so glad you enjoy using the hexiform x
Never heard of hexiform so will investigate. Love your tutorials🤩 I have just discovered EPP and have started my first hexi quilt. I may be gone for some time!!😁❤
oh how lovely that you are starting your epp journey! you have so many lovely hours of stitching ahead of you. Enjoy every bit x
Please do a video showing how you create your Henie designs on the cricut. Thank you.
ok I will try to, thank you
I just love watching your videos! Just ordered some hexiforms to work on some presents for Christmas for some of my friends. Thank you so much for your videos!
Thank you so much! I hope you love using them 😊
Thank you for this wonderful video showing us paper and hexiforms, so helpful. I popped over to your shop and ordered some hexiforms, and my first ever Liberty fabric, ohhh...can hardly wait. Not sure if they sell Liberty fabric here in Norway. Have a wonderful week 😊🌼
Thank you so so much for your order, it has been posted out, I hope it arrives soon and that you love it
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox 😍🙏❤ thank you 😊🌷🌼
I enjoyed that.
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox I need to say, I absolutely adore your vintage work, beautiful! 💖 :)
Thank you❣️
So glad you like it, thanks so much for watching. Have a wonderful trip
Your work is absolutely gorgeous you are so talented and creative..your teaching is inspiring
What a lovely, lovely thing to say, thank you Carolyn x
I really enjoyed your video. I'm very NEW to EPP - working on my first project. I've started with paper hexies but am really intrigued with using the hexiform. I also enjoy embroidery am glad to see how you married the two together (quilting & embroidery) to create very unique items. Thank you so much for doing this! Lynn from NC USA
I am so happy to hear this was a useful video for you Lynn. How exciting to be starting out on your EPP journey, I hope you enjoy every stitch 😊
Thanks for content. Not heard of hexiform before, going to give it a go. Love your work, very my style 👍
aww thank you! I hope you love Hexiform as much as I do
Thank you for sharing g your passion, talent, and knowledge. I learned about Hexiforms from you and just love them!
Thank you Lillian, I am so happy to hear you love them
Your projects are so very pretty and I am going to try and get some of that hexifoam when I finish the EPP project I am working on now. Thanks for your wonderful and helpful explanations. I sure do appreciate it.
Oh thank you! That’s very kind. I hope you love using it as much as I do 😊
Hi, Emma, from the USA!
I think I’ve seen those here too but never tried one 😊
Thank you for sharing this, I love hexies, but did not know about hexiform, must order some soon
you are so welcome, thank you for watching Marielle
Thank you for the clear, informative instructions with good demonstrations. Excited to try. Love all the beautiful fabrics you used.

Muchisimas gracias a tí Yolanda 😊
Love the look of the Hexie form. Is it just like wading? Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
it's not really like wadding, it is stiffer and holds its shape
I've used the small hexiform from you for the sewing case design of yours and about to do the sewing box too. Love love love them! Love your videos too, so clear and so calming. Your work is adorable. Just subscribed ( I thought I was oops) Thanks for all your inspiration!
Oh thank you! I’m so so glad you like it and I appreciate you subscribing
You do such lovely needle work! Thank you so much for posting this video!
Thank you so so much Brenda
Hi Emma, thankyou for another well informed video and a look at your lovely work, I am waiting for my hexiform to arrive in the post to start a mini quilt as you have inspired me to.
Happy sewing 🧵
Sue 💜
Oh that’s super exciting Sue! I hope you love making your mini quilt 😊
Very soothing voice. Feel good. Say your folding tray, the new video. Very nice idea.
Thank you 😊
Thank you, Emma for this inspiring video. I didn’t know about hexiform but was happy to learn about. I haven’t ever made anything with hexies yet but I plan non very soon. You are so helpful!!! ❤️😍😁
Thank you Cathy, I hope you love making them when you do give it a go 😊
Love your work and being in Canada we do not have Hexiform, but I would love to try it. It looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Debra. Both myself and Ashmead will post overseas but unfortunately postage costs are so high. I hope it can come to Canada soon
Hi Christina, yes the smaller sizes definitely take some getting used to, you may find 3/4" a good size to start with.
What beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
Thank you for this very informative video. I leaned so much! 🥰
Thank you Vicki, I’m so glad it was useful 😊🌸
I’m so enjoying watching and learning from your videos! I’ve a couple of questions: what is the hexiform made of and can one use felt instead? Thank you so much for all your sharing!!
Hexiform is a man made fabric, it has a woven and a fuzzy side. I would say that felt would likely be more expensive and also, possibly too thick depending on what type you get. The thinner felt might be too floppy. Hope that helps
I use my cricit machine and it's wonderful I can have as many pieces as I want!!
Sounds great!
I agree regarding sew and quilt, lovely couple. Not forgetting new little baby girl. They are both husband and wife.both go out their way to help you. They sell liberty material as well as others.
Emma, all your work is amazing 💞,just love the fabrics you use, you explain everything so well, thank you for explaining about different ways for using hexies, feel able to have a try now I have watched your video 😘x
oh thank you Lyn! I am so happy to hear you are going to have a try now, I hope you love it
Thankyou Emma for a lovely informative video. 💛
thank you so much Sue
You've read my mind with this video! Have you ever done a project using both paper and hexiform? Thank you!
No I haven't, I'm not sure how that would work out because the hexiform gives a raised texture. Definitely worth thinking about though, thank you
Hi Emma you show a quilt on this video (just before you explain the sissix). Is this your design. Would love to make one like it. I agree with other comments. Lovely calm and inspiring videos. Thank you so much x
Thank you for such kind words Shifa. The quilt isn't my design, its called Alexandria and it's by Tale of Cloth in Australia x
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox ok thank you x
Thank you, Emma, for another inspiring and visually lovely video. I recently purchased some of the smaller hexiform shapes, as well as some Liberty fabrics. EPP is a perfect occupation for the steamy early summer weather we are having
Thank you for watching Debra. You are so right, it's perfect garden sewing isn't it.
